I was so tired of packing! I put a box on the floor next to all the others. Each box had “Vasant’s Room” on it in big, messy letters My writing showed how sad and angry I was.
All the boxes were going to the same place—our new house. But I didn’t want to leave my house at 1502 Cherry Lane. I loved it. I loved reading in my room. I loved playing with my dog in the yard. I didn’t want to leave all that behind.
My dad came into my room. “How’s the packing going here?” he asked.
“I hate packing,” I said. “Why do we have to leave?”
My dad sat on the bed. “I know how you feel, Vasant. When I was a boy, I loved my old house too. I missed it when I left to come to America. But I realized what I really missed was the memories (回忆), not the house itself. I missed playing with my brothers and smelling dinner cooking.”
“I’ll miss things like that too,” I said.
“That’s okay,” Dad said. “You’ll always have those memories. This house has been good to us. Now it’s time for another family to make memories here. And we’ll make new memories in the new house.”
Hearing Dad’s words, I started to imagine how I’d decorate my new room and make new memories there. I knew I’d always remember 1502 Cherry Lane, but I was excited to start something new too.

第1段写道“I was so tired of packing! I put a box on the floor next to all the others. Each box had ‘Vasant’s Room’ on it.”
第2段写道“But I didn’t want to leave my house at 1502 Cherry Lane. I loved it. I loved reading in my room. I loved playing with my dog in the yard. I didn’t want to leave all that behind.”
第5段写道“My dad sat on the bed. ‘I know how you feel, Vasant. When I was a boy, I loved my old house too...’”,随后父亲讲述了自己小时候搬家的经历和感悟。
第7段父亲提到“You’ll always have those memories... we’ll make new memories in the new house.”,第8段Vasant想象装饰新房间并期待新开始。
C
Did you know that just several green plants in a classroom could help you do better in maths and spelling? A study by the University of Technology Sydney in Australia found that classroom plants could boost maths scores (分数) by up to 14 per cent and spelling scores by up to 12 per cent.
But plants aren’t just good for grades. They can also make the air cleaner and help you feel happier. There are lots of easy-to-care-for plants that are perfect for classrooms, like spider plants and devil’s ivies
Want to have fun growing green plants at school? Try these ideas.
*Watch how your plant grows by counting the number of new leaves or measuring (测量) how tall the plant gets in a few weeks.
*Decorate the plants in your classroom with funny faces. Give them names and turn them into class friends!
*Paint colourful pots (花盆) for your plants.
*Try growing plants in water! Put a piece of a plant like a devil’s ivy into a glass of water. Watch for new roots (根) to grow!
*Start school gardens. You could grow flowers for bees and butterflies or delicious vegetables! They help you enjoy nature, eat healthy food, and stay active.
Plants make learning exciting and classrooms lively. Ask your teacher if you can grow some green friends today!
8. What does the underlined word “boost” mean in Chinese?
9. Why are spider plants and devil’s ivies perfect for classrooms?
A. They are easy to take care of.
B. They are colourful and beautiful.
C. They are popular among students.
10. How does the writer show the fun of growing plants at school?
A. By telling stories. B. By giving reasons. C. By listing different ideas.
11. What does the underlined word “They” refer to?
A. Flowers and vegetables. B. School gardens. C. Bees and butterflies.
B 9. A 10. C 11. B
根据第一段“help you do better in maths”和画线词所在句“classroom plants could boost maths scores... by up to 14 per cent”(教室植物可以使数学分数______高达 14%)可知,分数是变高了,而boost 意为“提高、促进”。
根据第二段第三句“There are lots of easy-to-care-for plants that are perfect for classrooms, like spider plants and devil’s ivies”可知,吊兰和绿萝适合教室是因为它们是“easy-to-care-for”(容易照料的)。
