Martin Woesler, a German who teaches at Hunan Normal University in central China, finally visited Dunhuang in Gansu Province in northwest China. Martin has lived in China for over 30years, but the trip to Dunhuang was a completely new experience for him.
Before this trip, Martin had already learned a lot about Dunhuang. He knew that this place was located on the Silk Road, where many cultures once met. However, seeing it with his own eyes was even more amazing than he had expected.
During this short trip, Martin visited the city’s most famous places, which he had long wanted to see. What impressed (给……留下深刻印象) him most was the Mogao Caves. The first time he stood in front of them, he felt that the past and the present (现在) had met. Characters from ancient Chinese, Greek and Indian stories were painted on the walls. He said the Mogao Caves were simply a wonder, as several cultures had lived together there for thousands of years.
Martin’s love for China began 38 years ago at a poetry reading in his hometown. A Chinese poem made him interested in Chinese culture and later led him to study at Peking University. Since then, he has worked to help the world better understand Chinese culture.
After his trip to Dunhuang, Martin said, “Just like the paintings in the Mogao Caves, we need to be open to different cultures. Let’s work together to make the world a better place.”

On August 14, 2025, Beijing hosted the world’s first Humanoid Robot Games at the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “Ice Ribbon”. Over 500 robots from 16 countries formed 280 teams to compete in sports, dances, and practical tasks during the three-day event.
The opening ceremony (开幕式) amazed the audience (观众) with robots dancing hip-hop, performing martial arts, and playing instruments like keyboards. In a futuristic fashion show, robots modeled clothes with humans, though one fell and needed help.
The competitions included three types:
1. Athletics: Running races, high jump, and soccer—even a 5v5 game where robots made decisions alone.
2. Performances: Group dances and martial arts, such as 60 mini-robots in Chinese opera costumes (戏曲服装).
3. Real-world challenges: Tasks like sorting (分类) hospital medicines or cleaning hotel rooms in 20 minutes.
Teams from top universities (like Tsinghua University and Peking University) and companies joined international groups. A Chinese official said every robot was “making history.” Though robots sometimes stumbled (绊倒), the event aimed to improve technology through practice. As an organizer explained, “Letting robots fall 100 times on the field is better than 1,000 lab tests.”
The Games show China’s progress in AI robotics and give us a look at a future where humans and machines work together.

Chen-Ning Yang, one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century, passed away in Beijing at the age of 103. His life was a wonderful combination of academic (学术) excellence and deep love for his motherland.
Born in Hefei in 1922, Yang moved to Tsinghua Garden with his family in 1929. He received his early education there and developed a strong interest in physics. After the war broke out, he traveled a long way to Kunming and entered National Southwestern Associated University, where he laid a solid foundation (坚实的基础) for his future research. In 1945, Yang went to the US as a government-funded student. He got his PhD (博士学位) at the University of Chicago and later worked at top research institutions.
In 1954, he came up with the “Yang-Mills gauge theory” with Robert Mills, a theory that became a cornerstone (基石) of modern physics. Three years later, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics with another great physicist Tsung-Dao Li for their research on parity non-conservation.
Though successful abroad, Yang always missed his motherland. In 1971, he made a historic visit to China, which caused a wave of overseas (海外) Chinese scholars (学者) returning to serve our country. He also raised money to support Chinese scholars to study abroad, many of whom later became backbones (骨干) of China’s science.
In 1999, Yang returned to Tsinghua University as a professor. He devoted himself to teaching young talents, even teaching basic physics to freshmen (新生). To support academic research, he gave away over 2,000 books and manuscripts (手稿) to Tsinghua in 2021.
Yang’s influence went far beyond his scientific achievements. He lived a simple life and often encouraged young people to find out the truth and serve the country. He will always be remembered as a scientific giant and a loyal son of China.
43. When did Chen-Ning Yang win the Nobel Prize in Physics?
A. In 1954. B. In 1957. C. In 1945. D. In 1971.
44. What did Yang do to support Chinese academic development?

From the late night of September 7th to the early morning of September 8th, 2025, a breathtaking total lunar eclipse (月全食) took place. During this time, the Moon turned completely red for about 83 minutes. People call it the “Blood Moon”. But what made the Moon turn red like that? Is it magic?
Actually, it’s not magic. It’s a “light show” carefully directed by our own planet. During a total lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth, and Moon are in a straight line, with Earth in the middle. Normally, when the Moon moves fully into the dark area created by Earth, it is hidden because it can’t get any direct light from the Sun.
But here’s the fascinating part: Earth is covered by the atmosphere (大气层). When sunlight passes through the atmosphere, something magical happens. The atmosphere scatters (散射) blue and purple light more strongly. At the same time, red and orange light can pass through the atmosphere more easily. Some of the red and orange light goes through the atmosphere and then changes its direction and shines onto the Moon’s surface. That’s why the Moon appears red during a total lunar eclipse.
So, the “Blood Moon” is not something to be scared of. It’s a beautiful and natural event. Interestingly, the red color isn’t always the same. If there is more dust in Earth’s atmosphere, the Moon appears darker red because more light is scattered. If the atmosphere is cleaner, the Moon appears brighter, with a more orange-red color.
If you see a “Blood Moon” next time, don’t worry. You can proudly tell others what’s happening.
47. How long did the “Blood Moon” appear in September 2025?
A. For an hour. B. For about one and a half hours.
C. For more than two hours. D. For one night.
48. Why does the Moon turn red during a total lunar eclipse?
A. Because the Moon is covered with dust.
B. Because the Moon’s surface is naturally red.
C. Because the Moon reflects sunlight differently.
D. Because the Moon receives the Sun’s orange and red light.
49. Why does the Moon appear darker red sometimes during a total lunar eclipse?
A. Because the atmosphere is cleaner. B. Because the Moon is farther from Earth.
C. Because there is more dust in Earth’s atmosphere. D. Because the Sun is not shining brightly.
50. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The “Blood Moon” is a magical and scary event.
B. During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon is between the Sun and Earth.
C. The red color of the “Blood Moon” is always the same.
D. The “Blood Moon” is a natural result of light passing through Earth’s atmosphere.

Second, developing hobbies helps us relax effectively. We can listen to music or watch movies in our spare time. Third, obeying home and school rules is absolutely necessary. We must be strict with ourselves in daily life. Finally, being polite to others shows good manners. We should learn how to behave properly in public.
If we do these things, we will become useful talents in the new era. Let’s take action now to create a bright future together.
