A
Shared mobility: Making travel easier for all
In major cities across Europe and the US, shared bikes and cars seem to be everywhere. Yet for disabled, elderly, low-income individuals, or those without a smartphone or credit card, these services are practically out of reach. Such services tend to gather in wealthy urban areas, leaving users largely young, wealthy, and able-bodied.
Shared mobility could be a key part of a more sustainable transportation system. But to be most effective, it needs to include everyone. For-profit shared mobility providers have largely failed to deliver on this, but various initiatives and projects are finding creative solutions to reach under-served communities.
●Buffalo’s E-Bike Library: Organizes training, group rides and educational events to familiarize people with cycling culture and safety, with 71% of members being first-time riders.
●Mobitwin’s car-share service: Prioritizes email-and phone-based bookings over apps to extend reach to a wider share of the population lacking digital literacy, helping them access the service more easily.
● U. S. bike-sharing policy: Provides fare reductions for low-income groups, with cash payment options and non-smartphone access as key measures to broaden adoption, which has shown promise in increasing the use of shared bikes while decreasing the use of personal vehicles.
●Graz’s car-share initiatives: Add wheelchair-accessible vehicles, child seats, and station-based booking to suit diverse users’ trip-chaining needs, such as mid-route pickups and multi-destination trips.
The future of shared mobility relies on making inclusive design a top priority. As Esen Köse, project manager at Mpact, puts it, “It’s about starting with people’s needs.”
21. What is the percentage gap between lower and higher income users in Barrier 1?
A. 3%. B. 16%. C. 26%. D. 71%.
22. Which solution targets Barrier 2?
A. Buffalo’s E-Bike Library. B. Graz’s car-share initiatives.
C. U. S. bike-sharing policy. D. Mobitwin’s car-share service.
23. What will shape the future of shared mobility according to Esen Köse?
A. Tech-based priority. B. Charity-run initiatives.
C. Profit-driven providers. D. User-centered accessibility.

We thought we had everything we could ask for—a lovely home, three healthy kids, two vehicles—and we cherished it all. We spent money as if it would never run out. But then the market took a downturn, and my husband lost his job at the construction firm. The company filed for failure and shut its doors permanently.
We both began searching for jobs immediately, yet there were none available. As each day went by, our anxiety grew, but we kept working as a team to get our family through the tough time. The more we joined forces, the stronger our bond became.
Watching my husband take the blame for our current dilemma was truly painful. I knew full well he couldn’t control the economy, but he kept putting himself down—each bitter word he said dragged his spirits further down. I kept telling him to quit it, yet he appeared determined to punish himself for being jobless.
At last, one afternoon I pulled him aside and said, “We have healthy children and each other. That’s what matters. That makes you a rich man.”
“But what if we lose the house? They’ll hate me—you'll hate me,” he replied.
“If we live in a cardboard box on the empty lot across the street, I will be happy—as long as I have you.” I wasn’t just saying it. I meant business. I could see the sense of relief spread over him as his shoulders and neck loosened, and the tightness drained from his body. He pulled me close, and for the first time in a long while, we were able to talk, make plans, and share dreams together. It marked a pivotal moment for both of us as a couple and our family.
We are still struggling financially, but I count us fortunate because we have something that money can’t buy and no one can take away from us.
24. What caused the family’s problem?
A. Overspending on daily needs. B. The husband’s unemployment.
C. High costs of raising children. D. A sudden rise in house prices.
25. How did the husband feel about their situation?
A. Guilty. B. Confused. C. Hopeful. D. Annoyed.
26. What does the underlined phrase “meant business” in paragraph 6 mean?
A. Told a lie. B. Removed a doubt.
C. Took it seriously. D. Lived with it.
27. Why does the author consider her family well-off?
A. They’ve regained financial stability. B. They’ve preserved belongings.
C. They’ve strengthened family bonds. D. They’ve resolved mental conflicts.

The European wood bison population has grown so much as to no longer be considered "Vulnerable" according to the global authority on conservation, the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN),in their latest Red List update.
A century ago, only 50 European bison remained on Earth, and they were mostly restricted to nature reserves.
“The conservation successes provide living proof that the world can set,and meet, ambitious biodiversity targets,” said Dr. Jane Smart,Global Director of IUCN' s Biodiversity Conservation Group in a statement.
Eight of the 47 bison herds have special genes for long-term survival, so scientists need to move animals in and out of herds in order to make healthy genes continue. Establishing greater numbers of separate herds will also help prevent possible losses due to things like diseases or natural disasters.
This led to the creation of a project called “Wilder Blean" where Blean Woods in Kent, England, will receive Dutch and Polish bison to create the first wild herd on the island for 6,000 years.
English conservationists and wildlife managers are interested in the effects bison have on the landscape. As large grass-eating animals, the constant foraging, digging and breaking they do on the forest floor have been assumed to have positive effects on the ecosystem.
Bison kill weak or dead trees by eating their bark or rubbing against them to remove their thick winter fur. This turns the tree into food and habitat for insects, which in turn provide food for birds.
In this way they act like forestry experts, and the Kent Wildlife Trust hopes that this significant species will maintain declining populations of plants, birds, insects, and mammals by way of their unique habits.
28. What has made the European wood bison grow in large numbers?
A. Being restricted to nature reserves. B. Being updated on the latest Red List.
C. Being kept under effective conservation. D. Being born with long-term survival genes.
29. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Providing living proof. B. Preventing natural disasters.
C. Establishing nature reserves. D. Setting up more separate herds.
30. What is the attitude of Kent Wildlife Trust towards the project “Wilder Blean”?
A. Supportive. B. Conservative. C. Skeptical. D. Objective.
31. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To introduce the various actions of European wood bison.
B. To highlight the importance of setting and meeting targets.
C. To report the conservation successes for European wood bison.
D. To praise Dr. Jane Smart for his contributions to conservation.
D
Artificial intelligence (AI) models have long surpassed (超过) just creating text responses and images. Now, with only one sentence, OpenAI’s latest text-to-video model, Sora, can turn your words into video with good visual quality while faithfully following your content instructions.
Sora is said to outperform many other existing models with similar functions. The AI model can create videos at suitable aspect ratios (屏幕高宽比) for different devices, such as both widescreen videos and vertical (竖的) videos that we usually see on social media. This allows it to offer diverse products. It also lets users quickly test out content in lower quality before making the high-quality version, which helps speed up output.
Aside from this, its ability to present videos in a realistic and smooth manner is astonishing. Sora can create detailed scenes with several characters, specific types of motion, and accurate subject and background details while generating multiple shots within a single video. Beyond the user’s requests, it also understands how these elements exist in the real world. For example, reflections in the water change as a woman walks by a lake.
Sora’s amazing performance wouldn’t be possible without its helpful assistant, ChatGPT, which transforms simple sentences into detailed descriptions, improving the accuracy of output according to the user’s prompts (提示语).
However, the current model isn’t perfect. It may have trouble accurately showing how things move in a complicated scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if someone eats part of a cookie in a Sora-made video, the cookie might not look like it’s been bitten into. The model might mix up directions like left and right, and find it hard to describe events in the right order. One possible reason is that Sora learns each basic unit of a video, known as a spacetime patch (时空补丁), independently, according to an online post by the Institute of Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
As of February, Sora is still in the testing stage of development. OpenAI is now inviting cybersecurity professionals to make random attacks on Sora’s system, aiming to test the model’s possible weaknesses and risks. Sora has also been open to some visual artists, designers and filmmakers. Their feedback will assist OpenAI in enhancing the model to better serve creative professionals.
32. What is the main focus of paragraphs 2-3?
A. Sora’s evolution. B. Sora’s diversity.
C. Sora’s strengths. D. Sora’s techniques.
33. How does ChatGPT contribute to Sora’s capabilities?
A. By specifying user input. B. By providing verbal feedback.
C. By analyzing sample videos. D. By enhancing video quality.
34. Why does the author provide the example in paragraph 5?
A. To highlight Sora’s potential safety risks.
B. To illustrate Sora’s existing limitations.
C. To showcase Sora’s flawless performance.
D. To explain the concept of a spacetime patch.
35. What can we know about Sora up to now?
A. It has been made available to various industries.
B. Its commercial release has been called off.
C. It has exposed alarming security issues.
D. It is undergoing testing and improvement.
Are you as good at things as you think you are? While knowing how competent one is helps make important decisions, research suggests that people are not very good at evaluating themselves accurately. ____36____ Researchers have a term for this phenomenon, the Dunning-Kruger effect.
____37____ They judge themselves as better than others to a degree that violates the laws of math. When software engineers were asked to rate their performance, 42% put themselves in the top 5%. This is not an isolated finding. On average, people tend to rate themselves better than most in health, leadership skills, and beyond. What’s particularly interesting is that those with the least ability often overrate their skills to the greatest extent.
____38____ When psychologists Dunning and Kruger first described the effect in 1999, they argued that poor performers lack the very expertise needed to recognize how badly they’re doing. The Dunning-Kruger effect isn’t a question of ego (自尊) blinding us to our weaknesses. People usually do admit their deficits once they can spot them. That may be why people with a medium amount of expertise often have less confidence in their abilities. ____39____
Meanwhile, experts tend to be aware of just how knowledgeable they are. But they often assume that everyone else is knowledgeable, too. ____40____ When they’re unskilled, they can’t see their own faults. When they’re exceptionally competent, they don’t perceive how unusual their abilities are.
So what can we do? First, ask for feedback from other people, even if it’s hard to hear. Second, keep learning. The more knowledgeable we become, the less likely we are to have invisible holes in our competence.
A. But why?
B. Do people know how badly they are doing?
C. People in various fields tend to be overconfident.
D. In fact, they frequently overestimate their own abilities.
E. They know enough to know that there’s a lot they don’t know.
F. The result is, one way or another, people are caught in an inaccurate self-perception.
G. This effect explains why over 100 studies show people display imaginary superiority.

Bear was not a bear. She was a big dog on the Perkinses’ family farm, a woolly creature with floppy ears and paws like bedroom slippers. She protected the ducks and chickens from being eaten by foxes and raccoons (浣熊) .
She guarded the children as well, watching over them as closely as she did the chickens and ducks. In winter the dog ran alongside the children as they sledded (滑雪橇) down snowy hills. In summer she swam with them in a nearby river.
Bear belonged to a breed (品种) that had long been used by Atlantic fishermen to help with their work, and it had a keen instinct for water rescue. When the children were in the river, the dog would swim in circles around them, barking when she felt they went out too far. She was the perfect farm dog — companion, guardian, protector.
The dog’s favorite among the three children was three-year-old little Mike. They often curled up together. Sometimes Bear would doze while Mike pretended to read to her. Often both were sound asleep, a tangle of dark fur, blond hair, small hands and huge paws. At bedtime, Mike saved his last hug for Bear, his “best friend”.
On a cold winter day, when their parents went out to send a parcel, eight-year-old Martha, seven-year-old Sara and Mike, went to slide on the frozen pond of their farm. Shouting happily, they slid back and forth, their boots gliding easily across the ice. They laughed as they watched Bear’s attempts to stop suddenly, which would instead send her skidding beyond them. Then, tired, the three sat down on the ice, with Bear beside them. Suddenly the ice gave way under their combined weight.
As Bear jumped for shore, the three children fell into the freezing cold water. Screaming, Martha and Sarah struggled to find footing on rocks underwater. Branches from a tree nearby provided handholds, and using every bit of their strength, the two girls pulled themselves to shore.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: Looking back, they saw little Mike holding on to a broken chunk (大块) of ice, unable to crawl onto it.

Paragraph 2: Seeing that, Bear let out a series of woofs and jumped into the water, heading straight for Mike.

I want to take some time to teach a few workshops and share what i've learned over the years. It's a way of giving back to the community. Good evening, everyone. My name is Grace Collins, and i'm excited to share my experiences with you tonight. For the past ten years, i've worked to protect and restore natural ecosystems, particularly in a small island nation in the pacific. One of my proud projects was creating a community program where local Fishermen could work together to monitor and protect the environment. These partnerships have shown me that successful conservation isn't just about using the latest tools or technologies, it's about building trust, respecting local traditions and finding ways to solve problems. Together, i've learned so much from the people i've worked with, and their knowledge has been key to bringing real change. Later in my talk, i'll introduce some new techniques we've recently developed to help speed up restoration efforts. But first, i'd like to tell you more about the work we did and what we learned along the way after my presentation. I'd be happy to take any questions. Good evening, everyone.
A
Shared mobility: Making travel easier for all
In major cities across Europe and the US, shared bikes and cars seem to be everywhere.

B 25. A 26. C 27. C

C 33. A 34. B 35. D

根据文章最后一段“As of February, Sora is still in the testing stage of development.
D 37. G 38. A 39. E 40. F
根据上文“While knowing how competent one is helps make important decisions, research suggests that people are not very good at evaluating themselves accurately. (虽然了解自己的能力有助于做出重要决策,但研究表明,人们并不擅长准确地评价自己)”以及下文“Researchers have a term for this phenomenon, the Dunning-Kruger effect.
根据下文“They judge themselves as better than others to a degree that violates the laws of math. When software engineers were asked to rate their performance, 42% put themselves in the top 5%. This is not an isolated finding. On average, people tend to rate themselves better than most in health, leadership skills, and beyond.
根据上文“What’s particularly interesting is that those with the least ability often overrate their skills to the greatest extent. (特别有趣的是,能力最弱的人往往最容易高估自己的技能)”以及下文“When psychologists Dunning and Kruger first described the effect in 1999, they argued that poor performers lack the very expertise needed to recognize how badly they’re doing. (当心理学家邓宁和克鲁格在1999年首次描述这种效应时,他们认为表现不佳者缺乏认识到自己表现有多差所需的专业知识)”可知,上文指出“能力最弱的人往往最容易高估自己的技能”这种现象,下文则说明了这种现象的原因,A选项“But why? (但是为什么呢?)”以设问的方式引出下文对“能力弱的人高估自己”这一现象的原因解释,起到承上启下的过渡作用,符合“现象—疑问—原因”的逻辑结构。故选A项。
根据上文“The Dunning-Kruger effect isn’t a question of ego (自尊) blinding us to our weaknesses. People usually do admit their deficits once they can spot them. That may be why people with a medium amount of expertise often have less confidence in their abilities. (邓宁—克鲁格效应并非是自尊蒙蔽了我们对自身弱点的认知。人们通常一旦能发现自己的不足,就会承认这些缺陷。这可能就是为什么拥有中等专业知识水平的人往往对自己的能力信心不足)”可知,上文指出拥有中等专业知识的人往往对自己的能力缺乏信心,E选项“They know enough to know that there’s a lot they don’t know. (他们知道的足够多,以至于明白自己还有很多不知道的东西)”是对“中等专业知识者信心不足”的原因进一步解释,“They”指代“people with a medium amount of expertise”,“know enough to know that there’s a lot they don’t know”说明中等水平者因认知到自身知识局限而信心不足,与上文逻辑一致,补充完整因果关系。故选E项。
根据上文“Meanwhile, experts tend to be aware of just how knowledgeable they are. But they often assume that everyone else is knowledgeable, too. (与此同时,专家往往清楚自己有多博学。但他们通常也认为其他人同样博学)”以及下文“When they’re unskilled, they can’t see their own faults. When they’re exceptionally competent, they don’t perceive how unusual their abilities are.

Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
Dear Ryan,
I’m more than delighted to hear that you’re planning to add a fun activity in our English class. After weighing both options, I prefer the “Three-minute presentation”. The reasons are as follows.
Firstly, this activity can improve our comprehensive language skills, because we need to organize ideas, express them clearly, and even answer possible questions, which is more practical for daily communication. Secondly, it helps build confidence. Speaking in front of the class makes us braver when using English in real life. Lastly, presentations can cover various topics, from hobbies to social issues, not only sparking students’ interest but also bringing fresh knowledge to the class.
Hope you can take my suggestions into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: Looking back, they saw little Mike holding on to a broken chunk (大块) of ice, unable to crawl onto it.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: Seeing that, Bear let out a series of woofs and jumped into the water, heading straight for Mike.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Looking back, they saw little Mike holding on to a broken chunk of ice, unable to crawl onto it. Panic slammed into Martha and Sara like a hammer; their breaths came in harsh clouds as the wind howled across the pond. “Mike, keep your arms up — don’t let go!” Martha shouted, her voice cracking with fear. The boy’s lips were turning a frightening shade of blue, and water sloshed over his boots each time the ice tilted. The sisters clung to a low branch, but the thought of re-entering the frigid hole was unbearable. With no adults in sight and daylight fading, the brittle silence of the farm suddenly felt enormous.
Seeing that, Bear let out a series of woofs and jumped into the water, heading straight for Mike. Powerful strokes sliced the surface as spray flew from her coat. When she reached him, she circled once, nudging his armpit with her nose until Mike’s arms slid over her broad shoulders. Instinct took over. Gripping his jacket between her teeth, she turned toward shore and began towing her passenger. Martha and Sara lay flat on the ice, stretching a long branch. The moment Bear’s paws scraped frozen ground, the girls hauled the boy and the dog together, collapsing in a trembling heap of relief.
