In 2025, China introduced a nationwide policy to give high school students two full days off every weekend to reduce the heavy study pressure. Before the policy, many students in provinces like Hebei only had one day or even half a day to rest each week.
According to the new rules, teachers cannot give extra(额外的) homework during weekends, but schools must keep libraries and sports fields open for students who wish to study or exercise voluntarily. Most students welcome the policy. “I finally have time to play basketball and read novels,” said Li Ming. Studies also show that students who get enough rest perform better in exams. For example, a high school in Zhejiang reported an improvement in average test scores after carrying out the policy.
However, some parents still worry. “Weekends used to be important for reviewing lessons. I’m afraid my child will fall behind,” said a parent. Rural(农村的) areas face bigger challenges. In villages where educational resources are limited, students have fewer chances to take part in after-school activities. To solve this problem, the government has created free online learning platforms and encouraged urban(城市的) schools to share resources with rural ones.
Many teachers believe this policy marks a turning point in China’s education. It brings both benefits(好处) and challenges to students.
根据短文内容回答问题,每题答案不超过8个词。
1. How long could many high school students in Hebei rest each week before the policy?

Six-to-twelve-year-olds in California are required to learn cursive handwriting. It was left out for many years because typing on computer keyboards was taught. It has come back. A law was made requiring that handwriting be taught to Californian students in grades one through six. And it requires cursive lessons in grades three and above.
Cursive is a kind of handwriting in which all the letters in a word are connected to each other. California’s Governor(州长) signed the law in October, 2023. California’s grade school students were required to learn it in Fullerton, California in January 2024.
Experts say learning cursive improves brain development, reading skills, and hand movement. Some educators also find value in teaching children to read historic documents and family letters from past generations.
Keller teaches grades four to six at a primary school in Fullerton. She began to teach cursive learning before the law took effect on January 1st, 2024. Some children complained about the difficulty, but Keller had a ready answer. “We tell them, ‘Well, it’s going to make you smarter, it’s going to make some connections in your brain, and it’s going to help you move to the next level.’ Students want to be smarter so they want to learn,” Keller said. During a visit to the school library in 2025, Keller said one student got excited when seeing a picture of the US Constitution, written in 1787. The student said, “It’s cursive!”
Several of Keller’s students said the subject was difficult, like the letter Z, but they enjoyed it anyway. “I love it. It’s fun to learn new letters,” said Sophie, a 9-year-old in the fourth grade. In the teacher Nancy’s class, one of her third-grade students, Andrew, said, “It’s fun. Now I can read my mum’s writing and it’s for my secrets.”
( )1. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 2?
A. The law. B. Cursive handwriting.

( )2. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The development of children’s brains. B. The advantages of learning cursive.

A. The law. B. Cursive handwriting.
C. Computer typing. D. The US Constitution.
( B )2. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
