As most of the rain from the weekend has disappeared. IT will clear up by a lunch time, though over the next day or so, london and the area around kent can expect a couple of showers, but mostly dry through until thursday. It's not such good news for the northwest this week, i'm afraid. More wet weather and not much sunshine. Some of today's showers will be heavy, and even thunder in manchester and across the pennons leads will escape the thunder storms with a light rain only throughout the rest of the day. And tonight, elsewhere, IT becomes trying today, but with some foggy patches towards whales in england tomorrow morning, we will see a dry, bright start. In most places, we might see one or two thunderstorms appearing as the week goes on, with temperatures everywhere at twenty nine to thirty degrees by the weekend. Unfortunately, the dry weather will make way for mostly cloudy skies and rain. The rain will move from a scotland down towards the north and reached the south coast by saturday afternoon. Temperatures at least will stay mostly warm at around twenty one degrees for the weekend. IT might feel like a nice change from the high twenty years and early thirties will see in the week. Now 13 years old and about to start high school, Riley faces puberty and all its emotional chaos. Four new emotions arrive at headquarters: Anxiety, Envy, Boredom, and Embarrassment. Among them, Anxiety quickly becomes the most powerful—she wants to protect Riley from failure, but her efforts go too far. B Zhang Xue, a self-taught motorcycle designer in China, is more than a dream chaser — he is a guardian of determination and a pioneer breaking the boundaries between ordinariness and extraordinariness. Born in a remote mountain village in Hunan Province, he grew up watching his father repair old motorcycles, which had planted a seed of passion in his heart before he encountered countless hardships. It was this deep passion that drove him to keep moving forward, never losing faith in his dream. At the age of 14, poverty forced him to drop out of school, and he took up a job as a motorcycle repair apprentice to make a living for his family with perseverance. Unlike other apprentices who only focused on earning a salary, Zhang Xue treated every broken part as a lesson, spending his nights studying mechanical engineering books and practicing assembling engines until his hands were covered with calluses. When he first proposed designing his own motorcycle, he was met with laughter and doubt — many thought a rural boy with no formal education could never compete with well-funded foreign brands. However, such skepticism only strengthened his determination. It was seven years that he spent collecting spare parts, improving his designs repeatedly, and he even sold his only house, funded by his savings and borrowed money, to support his project. His persistence was not blind stubbornness, but a firm belief that Chinese craftsmanship could shine in the world of high-performance motorcycles. In 2016, his independently designed motorcycle, named “Xuefeng” (Snow Peak), made its debut at an international motorcycle show, impressing experts and audiences alike with its excellent performance and unique Chinese design elements. This breakthrough not only realized his lifelong dream but also broke the long-term monopoly of European and Japanese brands, proving that passion and persistence can turn an ordinary person into a trailblazer. Zhang Xue’s story is not just about personal success; it conveys a deeper message: greatness never comes from privilege, but from the courage to hold on to one’s love and the strong will to keep improving. It reminds every young person that as long as we have faith in ourselves and refuse to give up in the face of adversity, we can create value that transcends our own limits. Today, many young engineers are inspired by his story, devoting themselves to innovating and promoting Chinese manufacturing to a higher level. 24. What first inspired Zhang Xue’s passion for motorcycles? A. Working as a repair apprentice at 14. B. Watching his father repair old motorcycles as a child. C. Reading mechanical engineering books at night. D. Winning an award at an international motorcycle show. 25. Why did people laugh at Zhang Xue when he first proposed designing his own motorcycle? A. He had no experience in motorcycle repair. B. He was too young to start such a project. C. He lacked formal education and financial resources. D. His design was considered too traditional. 26. What does the underlined word “skepticism” in paragraph 3 most likely mean? A. strong support B. enthusiastic encouragement C. indifference D. doubt or disbelief 27. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. From a Village Boy to a World-Class Designer B. The Rise of Chinese Motorcycle Industry C. How to Become a Repair Apprentice D. The Importance of Formal Education C A new study suggests that increasing daily step counts may help people maintain weight loss in the long term and a goal to shoot for may be around 8,500 steps a day. The research, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and presented last week at the European Obesity Conference, analyzed data from 18 previous studies looking at weight loss and physical activity. Researchers found that walking more was not strongly linked to losing additional weight during active weight loss programs. However, people who continued taking more steps each day were more likely to keep the weight off over time. Over an average follow-up period of about 1.5 years, researchers found participants maintained roughly 1% of weight loss for every additional 1,000 steps they walked daily, with the average participant starting at about 7,400 steps per day at baseline. The study noted that an average of 8,500 daily steps appeared to help participants maintain weight loss the longest, though researchers stressed that it is not a strict target or prescription (处方) for everyone. The increased activity happened as part of structured lifestyle programs that also included diet changes and behavioral counseling. “This was a lifestyle modification program, and it really is a multifactorial approach when it comes to weight loss. So these individuals got diet and behavioral counseling in addition to really moving more. And so you really need all of that. ”ABC News medical contributor Dr. Tara Narula said on “Good Morning America” Monday. Narula noted that researchers described the findings as “hypothesis generating” and said more research is needed. “The researchers say, look, this is really hypothesis generating, it should push us to do more research,” she explained. “It is not a prescription that everyone should go out and now do 8,500 steps. But it is helpful information.” Researchers concluded that calorie restriction was likely more impactful during the weight loss phase, while higher levels of physical activity were more closely tied to long-term weight loss maintenance. The study also had several limitations. The analysis only included adults who were overweight or obese and relied on pooled population data, meaning the findings show correlation rather than direct cause and effect. “Certainly, if you’re planning to do a weight loss program, talk to your doctor about what is right for you in terms of your movement and goals overall,” Narula said. “And healthy habits build on each other,” she continued. “The more you lose weight, the more you want to exercise, you feel better. But it really is helpful to know that just that little bit of increase might be all you need.” 28. What do we know about the participants in the study? A. They only increased their step counts without any diet changes. B. They were all adults with normal weight. C. They were overweight or obese adults. D. They followed the 8,500-step prescription strictly. 29. What can be inferred about the role of walking in weight management according to the study? A. Walking helps more with maintaining weight loss than with initial weight loss. B. Walking is more effective for losing weight than diet changes. C. Walking alone can replace calorie restriction in any weight loss program. D. Walking only works for people who are not overweight. 30. What does Dr. Tara Narula mean when she says the findings are “hypothesis generating” (paragraph 6)? A. The findings are final and should be followed as a prescription. B. The findings are meant to encourage further research. C. The findings are not useful for ordinary people. D. The findings only apply to a small group of people. 31. What is the author’s attitude toward the study findings? A. Enthusiastic and strongly recommending 8,500 steps for everyone. B. Critical and dismissive of the research methods. C. Cautious and objective, noting both usefulness and limitations. D. Skeptical about any link between walking and weight management. D Acupuncture, a Chinese practice thought to be around 3,000 years old, involves sticking needles into certain points on the body in order to promote the proper flow of qi, the body’s vital energy. Although long pooh-poohed by Western medicine, its popularity continues to rise. Models and influencers tout (宣扬) its anti-ageing effects, and athletes including Serena Williams, a former tennis pro, and Tom Brady, a retired American football player, claim the needles have helped them with muscle recovery. Today acupuncture is used to alleviate ailments ranging from anxiety to asthma (哮喘). But does it do any good? On some fronts, the evidence in favour is strong. In 2018 a study in the Journal of Pain analysed the results of 39 randomised trials on 20,827 patients with shoulder pain, chronic muscle pain and headaches. All the patients had undergone either traditional acupuncture, sham acupuncture (a range of placebo (安慰剂) controls including the shallow insertion of needles) or no acupuncture at all. When patients assessed their symptoms more than four weeks after initial treatment, acupuncture users reported less pain than those in the other groups. The benefits had not faded by much a year later. Other studies conducted since then have supported these findings. But how might acupuncture achieve these results? Helene Langevin, retired director of the National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health at America’s National Institutes of Health (NIH), has a theory. Her research suggests the needles twist strands of connective tissue known as fascia (筋膜), which in turn pull on nerve endings in a way that might reduce pain. Some of the positive effects, however, might be due to the brain’s astonishing power to reduce pain when it believes a genuine intervention is being conducted. The more serious the apparent intervention, the greater this placebo response can be. A paper published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2020, for example, found no significant difference in pain relief between true and sham acupuncture. For Edzard Ernst, a professor at the University of Exeter who specialises in the study of complementary and alternative medicine, “it is worth remembering that we don’t need a placebo to generate placebo effects—any therapy comes automatically with a placebo effect.” For now, it is hard to identify how much of the benefit of acupuncture may arise in this way. The balance of evidence means that acupuncture remains a reasonable intervention for chronic pain, particularly because it has far fewer side-effects than most drugs. But for everything else, the effects are hard to figure out. 32. What does the underlined word “pooh-poohed” in paragraph 1 most likely mean? A. highly praised B. widely accepted C. dismissed or rejected D. carefully studied 33. Why does the author mention Serena Williams and Tom Brady in paragraph 2? A. To prove that acupuncture can cure serious diseases. B. To show that famous athletes believe acupuncture helps with muscle recovery. C. To argue that only professional athletes should use acupuncture. D. To compare the effects of acupuncture on different sports. 34. What can be inferred from the last paragraph about acupuncture? A. It may be a good choice for chronic pain because it has few side effects. B. It is not recommended for chronic pain due to weak evidence. C. It has been proven effective for all kinds of diseases. D. It should replace drugs completely in pain management. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. Acupuncture: A Magic cure for All Ailments B. The History of Chinese Acupuncture C. How to Perform Acupuncture Safely D. Does Acupuncture Really Work? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Have you ever been excited about something until someone told you that you “MUST” do it? Suddenly, it doesn’t seem so appealing. Psychologists call this little flash of resistance “reactance”. ___36___ Put another way, it’s our desire to do exactly the opposite of what we’re being forced to do. The theory of psychological reactance was first proposed in 1966. It suggests that when people feel someone is taking away their freedom of choice, they are motivated to regain that freedom. ___37___ We’ve all experienced this. Signs that say “KEEP OUT” or “DO NOT TOUCH” often tempt people to do exactly what’s forbidden. If a command threatens our freedom, we resist. This reactance can even make the restricted option more appealing. ___38___ Forbid your teen from seeing a certain friend, and that friend becomes even more important to them. A classic study also showed that children wanted a forbidden toy even more. The “grass” literally looked greener on the side where they could not play. So, knowing that reactance is a persuasion killer, what can we do? Respect people’s freedom to choose. ___39___ Instead, skilled persuaders find ways to give the other person a sense of control. For example, adding a phrase like “it’s up to you” makes people less likely to resist. Another way is to offer choices instead of orders. ___40___ If you say to a toddler, “Put your coat on now!” you might get a blow-up. But if you ask, “Do you want the red or blue coat?” the child happily puts one on. The same idea works with adults. When people feel in control, reactance fades, and real communication begins. Psychological reactance is a natural human response. The good news is that by understanding it, you can adapt your approach. Give options, not orders. Suggest, don’t shove. A. Parents of teenagers know this all too well. B. If you want to convince someone, the worst approach is to make them feel they have no choice. C. This technique is simple but effective. D. Simply, psychological reactance is a strong reaction we have when we feel someone is threatening our freedom to choose. E. People often feel angry when they are forced to do something. F. They often resist or do the opposite of what others demand. G. Sometimes, giving people more time to think can help reduce reactance. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I have often thought it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life. Darkness would make him more ____41____ of sight; silence would teach him the joys of sound. Now and then I have tested my seeing friends to discover what they see. Recently I asked a friend, who had just ____42____ from a long walk in the woods, what she had observed. “Nothing in particular,” she replied. How was it possible, I asked myself, to walk for an hour through the woods and see nothing ____43____ of note? I who cannot see find hundreds of things to interest me through mere ____44____. At times my heart cries out with ____45____ to see all these things. If I can get so much pleasure from mere touch, how much more beauty must be ____46____ by sight. To celebrate, we decided to host a small gathering for family and friends on a warm summer evening. My wife spent the whole afternoon preparing snacks and drinks, while I was responsible for getting the backyard in order. There was plenty of space for the kids to run around and play. Everything seemed perfect. There was just one thing I hadn’t counted on. My brother Mark brought his dog, Rocky — a 50-pound ball of energy. Though friendly, Rocky had a habit of jumping on people. I worried he might knock over my niece’s young children and my baby granddaughter. So when Mark arrived, I pulled him aside and asked him to keep Rocky outside. Mark’s smile faded a little, but he agreed. For a while, things went smoothly. Rocky ran back and forth in the yard, happily chasing butterflies and entertaining the kids, while Mark stood by the fence, watching his dog with a tired expression I hadn’t noticed before. I was too busy greeting guests and enjoying the party to think much about it. Then, after supper, dark clouds rolled in and rain began to fall. Everyone rushed inside. Now came the awkward moment. I didn’t want Rocky running around in my new house, but Mark didn’t want to drive home with a wet dog. The silence between us grew heavy. Finally, Mark grabbed Rocky’s leash, muttered a quick goodbye, and left. I didn’t think much of it — he’d get over it, I told myself. A week passed. Then another. Mark didn’t call. He didn’t reply to my cheerful texts. I texted him again, inviting him to come over. His reply came as a shock: “Not a chance.” Two months went by. My wife encouraged me to reach out again, but I held back, insisting he should be the one to call first. But as the days dragged on, my conscience began to weigh heavily on me. I finally put myself in his shoes. Mark had been going through a difficult time—his wife had passed away just a few months earlier, and he was facing health issues of his own. Rocky wasn’t just a pet to him; Rocky was his constant companion, the one who kept him going. How could I have been so blind? That night, I couldn’t sleep. I knew I had to do something. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: The next morning, I picked up the phone and called my brother. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: With the box of homemade cookies my wife had prepared, I arrived at Mark’s door. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高二英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 6. I tried several activities, such as paper-cutting, calligraphy, and folk music appreciation. I was most drawn to paper-cutting and I joined the paper-cutting workshop, where I learned to cut Chinese characters. It required great patience. With the help of an artist, I managed to cut out a simple “double happiness” character. It was challenging but incredibly satisfying. This event gave me a deeper understanding of our cultural roots. I felt both relaxed and inspired. I really wish you could join me next time. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 【67题答案】 【答案】范文一 Paragraph 1: The next morning, I picked up the phone and called my brother. My heart pounded as I waited for him to answer. When he finally did, his voice was cold and distant. “What do you want?” he asked. I took a deep breath and said, “Mark, I’m really sorry. I’ve been thinking about that night, and I was wrong. Rocky is important to you, and I should have understood that.” There was a long silence on the other end. Then, in a softer tone, he said, “It hurt, you know. Rocky is all I have left.” I promised to make things right and told him I was coming over. Paragraph 2: With the box of homemade cookies my wife had prepared, I arrived at Mark’s door. I knocked gently, my hands slightly trembling. When the door opened, Mark stood there with tired eyes. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then Rocky came bounding toward me, tail wagging wildly. Mark let out a small sigh and stepped aside. “Come in,” he said quietly. We sat in his living room, sharing the cookies and talking for hours — about his wife, about old times, and about the loneliness he had been carrying. As I left, he gave me a hug. “Thank you for coming,” he said. On the drive home, I realized that being right had never mattered as much as being there for the people we love. 范文二: Paragraph 1: The next morning, I picked up the phone and called my brother. My fingers trembled as I dialed his number. After three rings, his voicemail picked up. I left a message, my voice shaking: “Mark, it’s me. I know I messed up. I should never have made you choose between Rocky and family. Please give me a chance to make it right.” I didn’t expect him to call back, but an hour later, my phone buzzed: “Okay,” he said, just one word. That was enough. My wife handed me a box of freshly baked cookies — her way of saying she supported me. I drove to his place, rehearsing what I would say, though I knew that no words could fully undo the hurt I had caused. Paragraph 2: With the box of homemade cookies my wife had prepared, I arrived at Mark’s door. I raised my hand to knock, then hesitated. What if he didn’t forgive me? Just then, the door opened. Mark was standing there, Rocky by his side. I handed him the cookies and said, “I’m so sorry.” He looked at the box, then at me. Without a word, he pulled me into a tight hug. — “I missed you, brother,” he whispered. We spent the afternoon together — something we hadn’t done in months. As I watched Rocky curl up at Mark’s feet, I understood that forgiveness isn’t about forgetting; it’s about choosing to move forward together. And sometimes, that choice begins with a simple apology. ■ 选择题 第一部分 听力 1A][B]C] 6四 1B] C 11图B C网 16[A][B] 2AB田C网 7四 1B] ☒ 12[A][B] ☒ 17 a 3A] [B] 8四 B 13图 18A 4A 1B] C 9[A] 14四 B 19A B 5A [B C] 10A 1B] ⊙ 15A [B] a 20A G 第二部分阅读 21A][B] 网D可 26A 1B] C D 31A D 36A B C D ▣ 22AIB[C☒ D 27A] B 32[A] 1B] C 37[A] 23A][BI 28A D 33A B D 38A B ⊙ 24A][B] C D 29A B C 34A a 39 ☑ E E 25 A][B] 30A] B 35A] B a D 40A B 可 G 第三部分语言运用(第一节) 41NB☒ 46A B D 51 B c] D 42A][B] ☒D 47A B 52四 B a D 43ABC图D 48[A] 0B7 G D 53AⅫ C 44ABC网D可 49 [A][B] 54A]B] C D 45ABC☒D 50[A] BC网 D 55A]B] D 非选择题 第三部分 语言运用(第二节) 56. 57 58. 59. 60. 61. 62. 63 64. 65 第四部分写作(第一节) Dear Chris, 请在各题目的答题区域内作答,超出黑色矩形边框限定区域的答案无效 c·乙a1tnt2t 一B 0,"☐ 请在各题目的答题区域内作答,超出黑色矩形边框限定区域的答案无效 Yours sincerely, Li Hua 第四部分写作(第二节) The next morning,I picked up the phone and called my brother.
