It was time for the coach to name the team for the new season. When Fred’s name was called out but mine wasn’t, I was surprised and hurt. How could the coach make such a mistake? Soon, Tom smelled smoke. He knew bush fires were very dangerous. He decided to go home at once. But Jennie was too tired to walk fast, so Tom carried her on his back. The smoke grew thicker and thicker. Tom began to feel afraid but tried to stay calm.
Then they came to an open space with a large pool. The fire was coming closer through the trees. Tom looked around quickly and found a hole in the rocks. “Climb in, Jennie, quickly!” he shouted. He knew that in the deep hole, the flames could pass over them safely.
Tom quickly filled his cap with water and threw the water over Jennie until she was wet. He also soaked his own clothes. Then he climbed into the hole and hung his wet jacket over the entrance (入口) to keep the smoke out. Soon the fire swept over them, but Tom and Jennie stayed safe inside the hole.

Using Your Eyes as if Tomorrow You Would Be Blind
(A summary of Helen Keller’s Three Days to See)
Recently, Helen Keller asked a seeing friend who had just walked in the woods what she had noticed. “Nothing special,” the friend replied.
“How was it possible to walk through the woods and see nothing special?” Helen Keller asked herself. Helen Keller, who could not see, found hundreds of things interesting only through touches. If she could get so much happiness from touches, how much more beauty must be found by sight? And she had imagined what she should most like to see if she were given the use of her eyes for just three days.
On the first day, she should want to see the people who read books to her. In the afternoon, she should take a walk in the woods. That night, she should not be able to sleep.
On her second day, she should go to the museums to see man’s progress. She should try to explore the spirit of a man through his art. In the evening, she should spend at the theatre.
The following day, she should spend in the world of common people going about the business of life.
Helen Keller, who was blind, could give one suggestion to those who can see: “Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be blind. The same is true of other senses. Hear the songs of birds, as if you would be deaf tomorrow. Smell the flowers, as if tomorrow you could never smell again ... But of all the senses, I’m sure that sight must be the most pleasant.”

前文A提到昨晚9点给Tom打电话没人接,空后Tom回应自己当时正在写读书报告,此处需要询问Tom当时正在做什么,D项“What were you doing at that time?”
空后A用现在完成时的否定回答“No, I haven’t.”回应,还向Tom寻求相关建议,此处应填入以Have开头的现在完成时一般疑问句,C项“Have you decided which book to read?”
前文A询问《西游记》是关于什么内容的,此处需要直接给出书籍内容的介绍,A项“It’s about the Monkey King.”
空后Tom告知A读书报告要在后天提交,提醒对方抓紧时间,此处应填入询问读书报告提交时间的问句,F项“When should I hand in the book report?”
前文A向Tom表达了感谢,此处需要回应感谢的常用交际用语,B项“You are welcome.”

When the coach reached the end of ____35____ journey, the lady learned that the boy was going to the nearest seaport to become a sailor.
Twenty years later, on the ____36____ road, a sea captain (船长) was riding in a coach. He saw an old lady walking slowly along the road. The old lady looked very tired. The captain asked the coachman to ____37____. He helped the old lady get into the coach. Then the old lady thanked the captain and said, “I’m ____38____ poor that I can’t afford a ride now.” The captain told her that he ____39____ a lady who was kind to a poor boy on a coach near the same place twenty years ago. The old lady was surprised. “I am that lady!” Things have ____40____ for me since then.” she said.
The captain smiled. “I have made a lot of money and come home to enjoy it. I will give you twenty-five pounds a year for the rest of your life.” The old lady cried tears of joy and accepted his help. Her ____41____ came back to her at last.
32. A. boy B. girl C. lady
33. A. sorry B. strange C. nervous
34. A. ask for B. pay for C. care for
35. A. his B. my C. its
36. A. long B. same C. main

“pay for”表示“为……
根据后文“near the same place”,可知是同一条路。“on the same road”表示“同一条路”。
根据后文“helped the old lady get into the coach”,可知先要停车。“ask sb to stop” 表示“让……
such修饰名词,too不搭配that从句。

Fred and I were always best friends. We started playing football together when we were young. Fred was bigger than me, but I was faster. We joined the same club, the Springtown Stars, when we were seven. We loved wearing the red and white when we played in local competitions.
It was time for the coach to name the team for the new season. When Fred’s name was called out but mine wasn’t, I was surprised and hurt. How could the coach make such a mistake?

Dear Mr. Wang,
I want to thank you for your help during my junior high school life.

With your constant guidance and patience, I made great progress step by step. I gradually became confident and truly happy because of your warm support.
