To make your home sweet, everyone should work together and care for each other. Here are some nice ways to create a happy home.
First, sharing housework is important. A clean and tidy home makes everyone feel comfortable. You can help by doing small chores, like sweeping the floor, washing dishes, or making our beds. When everyone helps, the work becomes easier, and your parents will be happy.
Second, being kind to your family is the key to a sweet home. Always speak politely to your parents and siblings. Say” please“ and” thank you,“ and listen carefully when they talk. If you don’t agree with them, stay calm (冷静的) and talk nicely instead of shouting. For example, if our parents say no to something we want, we should understand their reasons instead of getting angry.
Third, spending time together makes a home sweet. We can eat meals together, watch movies, or play games. These activities help us feel closer to each other. Even small things, like helping our siblings with homework or telling funny stories, can bring joy to the family.

“I think you are all great helpers for your mom.”
“Yeah. Mom and Dad have so many kids, so they don’t have to do anything.”
That’s right, my children. You now know your place in the family. Snacks and TV, here I come! I don’t need to clean a thing in my house. Most of this is because I have older kids now.
We put our chores into two groups: everyday chores and paid chores. Here are everyday chores in our home: clear the table and chairs, do the dishes and sweep the floor after each meal and take out the rubbish. We also pay our kids. These chores are usually our weekly cleaning tasks, such as washing the car and cleaning the living room.

Last Sunday afternoon, dark clouds covered the sky. My mom rushed out for a work call and had a quick lunch in a hurry.” Nancy, stay safe.I might be back very late,” she said and left in a hurry. Looking at the empty (空的) kitchen, I remembered how tired she was these days. At that moment, I decided to surprise her with a dinner.
I called Grandma. She carefully guided me over the phone. First, I washed fresh tomatoes, onions, and carrots. I almost cut my hand several times when I cut them up. Then I slowly added some salt and pepper according to Grandma’s advice. While making the soup, I steamed rice and made a simple vegetable salad.
Just as I was placing bowls on the table, Mom walked in. Excitement (激动) appeared on her tired face. “Is this all for me?”she asked in a trembling (颤抖的) voice. We sat down to eat, and Mom had some soup, enjoying every bite with her eyes closed. “What a delicious meal!” she said, “But the best part is you made it with love.”
That night, as we ate the dishes together, Mom told me stories about her first learning to cook from Grandma.I realized that cooking is not just about making food-it’s a way to share love. Truly, home is the sweetest place with warm memories. Now, cooking dinner together has become our happiest time every weekend.

Is there anybody who likes doing housework? Should children help out around the house? For some children, doing housework may be the last thing they want to do. For many parents, getting their children to help with housework is also one big headache (头疼). However, Nurafiza, a Malaysian mother found a creative way.
Nurafiza came up with a reward (奖励) system for her two sons at home. She made a list of housework for her kids and gave them money for every task they had finished. The list of housework included cleaning up the house and putting away their toys for RM 50 each, doing the dishes for RM 80, and even not fighting with each other for RM 10 to RM 15. Nurafiza also opened a “mini mart (迷你超市)” at home for kids to spend the money in. Her three-year-old and six-year-old sons could buy snacks at her “mini mart” which was open from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. The money she gave to her kids was fake (假的) cash, which she had bought online.
Because of this system, both of her children are glad to help with housework. Her Facebook post has got over 15,000 likes and has been shared over 27,000 times. Many parents have begun to imitate her. They use the same way to discipline (管教) their children.
In fact, doing housework plays an important role in children’s development. First, housework teaches children basic (基本的) skills for living, like cooking and cleaning. When the film group met the Smiths, they found that Mr Smith, Mrs Smith and their two kids were so crazy about (迷上) technology that they hardly did things together. At mealtimes, no one sat at the dining table for their food. “Everyone just runs into the kitchen, takes their food and then goes back to their screen,” Mrs Smith explained, “If we don’t make a change, our family will become strangers to each other!”
Getting back to normal (正常的) life without the internet is not easy, especially when the Smiths lose themselves in it. They have to make many changes. For example, two kids have to go to the school library to borrow books for their scientific projects, and Mr and Mrs Smith need to go out shopping because they cannot buy things online. Doing housework is a key part of family life. It helps improve the relationship among family members. However, lots of Chinese parents do not know the importance of doing housework, and they think it is a waste of time.
In order to know how often middle school students do housework at home, we did a survey among 1,200 students from Grade 7 to Grade 9 in a middle school. The following bar chart shows the result of our survey.
From the bar chart, we find that only a small number of students usually do housework. Nearly half of the students in Grade 9 never do housework. The result makes us worried.
After all, doing housework is good for students. It can teach students many important skills, like planning, cleaning, solving problems and so on. Doing housework can also teach students what responsibility is. Everyone should do something for the family. Housework is a great tool to use for raising children. However, not all chores are suitable for every age. The following is advice on activities parents can use to help their children.
Two-year-olds can learn how to take out the rubbish. They can also help their parents carry light things and hang up clothes. At this age children should learn how to put their toys away before going to bed.
At the age of three, children can learn how to water plants and feed pets carefully. They should learn how to make their beds and put their dishes away. Children at this age can pick up the daily newspapers, and begin to learn how to wash clothes.
Four-year-olds should be old enough to do what the two and three year olds can do and more. They can make their beds, set the table, and clean up after dinner. They should also learn how to fold their clothes and put them in the right cabinets (柜子), as well as how to choose their clothes for the following day.
Children aged five should help clean the table and change their bed sheets (床单). They can also prepare their schoolbags for the next school day. At this age they should learn to clean up their toys and tidy up their rooms.
Children grow through their experiences. The more things they do, the more they will learn. Others help them only when they need it. It is important that they learn how to be independent (独立的) and try to finish the chores by themselves.

We don’t usually give them lots of instructions (提示) before they do the chores. They can find out how things work themselves. As they have more experience, we ask them to do better. And we’re glad they can look after themselves.

Her three-year-old and six-year-old sons could buy snacks at her “mini mart” which was open from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m.
What’s more, doing housework can help students relax themselves and keep a balance between study and life.
Therefore, we suggest that parents should encourage their children to do housework. Their children must learn one or two life skills every year so that they can live by themselves in the future.
1.What can we learn from the bar chart?
A.Students in all grades actively take part in housework.
B.Over half of the students in Grade 8 never do housework.
C.Students in Grade 7 do housework more often than students in Grade 9.
D.The result of Grade 9 students is the least worrying among all grades.
2.Which of the following is NOT a good point of doing housework?
A.Relaxing a busy mind.
B.Saving more time for study.
C.Practicing planning and cleaning skills.
D.Learning to live by themselves in the future.
3.What does the underlined word “responsibility” probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A.技能 B.能力 C.责任 D.方法

C.To remind people of the importance of doing housework.
D.To point out a worrying problem for teachers in school.

3.词句猜测题。根据“Doing housework can also teach students what responsibility is. Everyone should do something for the family.”
