Suddenly, the bookcase started shaking, and the cup of water fell to the floor. It woke up Mary. She looked around and found everything was shaking. She started shouting. Soon after, her father came in and told her it was an earthquake. And he asked her to come out quickly. Mary was so scared that she could hardly move. Her father picked her up and took her outside. The cold night wind blew on their faces as they stepped outdoors. She could hear her neighbors’ worried voices everywhere. Mary’s mother and brother were already there. Mary and her brother were crying. Mary’s parents looked after them and told them not to be afraid.
The next day, the children didn’t go to school because of the earthquake, so they spent the day with their parents. Parents shared simple earthquake escape knowledge with the two kids. 【跨学科·地理和物理】
Have you ever heard of the Dead Sea? It is in the Jordan Rift Valley in southwest Asia. It sits at about 416 metres below sea level, making it the lowest point on earth. What’s interesting is that the Dead Sea isn’t actually a sea. It’s a lake with a salt concentration (含盐度) of more than 30%, which is about eight times saltier than common seawater.
The Dead Sea stays so salty because it has special natural conditions. Each year, it receives very little rainfall, and only a little fresh water runs into it. And the hot weather around the Dead Sea causes the fresh water to evaporate (蒸发) quickly, which makes the salt concentration even higher. For these reasons, it is also known as the Salt Sea.
If you were to swim in the Dead Sea, you wouldn’t see any sea life—no plants or animals. The high salt concentration makes it impossible for them to survive there. That’s why it’s called the Dead Sea.
However, don’t let the name scare you. Even if you fall into the Dead Sea and can’t swim, you won’t die. The high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea allows anyone to float (漂浮) well, without the need for life buoys (救生圈). In fact, many people visit the Dead Sea every year on vacation. If you walk along the shore, you’ll likely see many people floating in the water, reading books or magazines.
32. What’s the salt concentration of the Dead Sea?
A. More than 8%. B. More than 24%. C. More than 30%. D. More than 38%.
33. What can we know about the Dead Sea from paragraph 2?
A. Why it is a lake. B. Why it stays so salty.
C. Why it is in Asia. D. Why it rains a lot there.
34. Why is there no sea life in the Dead Sea?
A. The water is too deep. B. The weather is too hot.
C. There is no fresh water. D. The salt level is too high.
35. What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph?
A. The Dead Sea is a popular place for fun.
B. Swimming in the Dead Sea is dangerous.
C. People need life buoys to read in the water.
D. The name “Dead Sea” stops people from visiting.
【答案】32. C 33. B 34. D 35. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇科普说明文,介绍死海的地理位置、超高含盐度、常年高盐的形成原因,解释了“死海”名称的由来,同时说明高盐度带来的可漂浮游玩的独特特点。
【32题详解】
根据第一段“It’s a lake with a salt concentration of more than 30%”可知死海含盐度超过30%。
【33题详解】
根据第二段首句“The Dead Sea stays so salty because it has special natural conditions.”可知,整段围绕死海含盐量极高的几点原因展开,对应B选项“为什么它含盐度很高”。
【34题详解】
根据第三段“The high salt concentration makes it impossible for them to survive there.”可知,过高的盐度让动植物无法生存,所以死海里没有海洋生物。
【35题详解】
根据最后一段“In fact, many people visit the Dead Sea every year on vacation...see many people floating in the water, reading books or magazines.”能推断出死海是热门游玩地点;在死海漂浮不需要救生圈、不存在危险、名字不会阻挡游客,B、C、D表述均错误。
D
Nowadays, hobbies play an important role in teenagers’ daily life. A healthy hobby can help students relax, improve their skills and enrich (丰富) their spare time. In many middle schools, teachers encourage students to develop different hobbies instead of only focusing on schoolwork.
Different students have different hobbies. Some students love quiet indoor activities such as reading, writing and painting. Others enjoy outdoor sports like running, swimming and mountain climbing. No matter what kind of hobbies they choose, they can get lots of benefits. Reading can open up students’ eyes and teach them more knowledge that they cannot learn from textbooks. Painting helps students improve their imagination and hands-on ability. Sports can keep their bodies strong and make them full of energy.
However, some students spend too much time on their hobbies. They stay up late for their hobbies. It influences their studies, makes them sleepy in class and even harms their health. So parents and teachers remind teenagers to keep a balance between study and hobbies.
Li Mei, a Grade Nine student, is a good example. She loves reading classic books in her free time. Every evening after finishing homework, she spends half an hour reading. She never stays up late reading. Because of her good habit, she not only gets good grades, but also has rich knowledge and good writing skills.
In fact, hobbies are our best friends in our long growth journey. They can help us forget sadness, reduce stress and shape our personalities. As middle school students, we should choose positive and meaningful hobbies, arrange our time well, and let hobbies become the driving force for our growth.

B. She joins a lot of sports clubs.
C. She shares her books with others.
D. She balances study and hobbies well.
39. What does the underlined word “arrange” mean?
A. Share. B. Plan. C. Waste. D. Change.
40. What does the writer want to tell us?
A. Stick to only one hobby. B. Develop great learning habits.
C. Keep away from online games. D. Use hobbies to improve ourselves.
【答案】36. A 37. C 38. D 39. B 40. D

【38题详解】
根据第四段可知,李梅每天完成作业后阅读半小时,从不熬夜,因此不仅成绩好而且知识丰富。这体现了她很好地平衡了学习与爱好之间的关系,呼应了第三段提到的“keep a balance between study and hobbies”。
【39题详解】
根据画线词所在的句子“choose positive and meaningful hobbies, arrange our time well…”,结合全文倡导合理安排时间的主题,可知此处意为“计划、安排”时间。Plan 意为“计划”,符合语境。

阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Cooking is a fun and helpful skill, but it hides unexpected dangers. Every year, many home cooks get hurt from small accidents—like hot oil burns, knife cuts, or tiny kitchen fires. Most of these problems don’t come from cooking being hard, but from poor safety sense or bad daily habits.
15-year-old Leo wanted to fry chicken for his family’s lunch last month. He poured oil into a pan, turned the stove to high heat, and then ran to his room to watch a video. He never thought his little carelessness would bring big trouble soon. He totally forgot about the oil until a strong burning smell flew into his room. Rushing back, he saw the oil boiling and catching fire. In a great panic, he took a cup of water and poured it on the flames. The fire shot up (猛地窜起) at once. Luckily, his mom heard the noise, ran in, and covered the pan with a metal lid (金属锅盖). The fire went out right away. Leo’s arm got a small burn, and the pan was destroyed. From this terrible accident, Leo knew a key safety rule: If oil catches fire, never use water—use a metal lid or a fire extinguisher instead.
For us, it’s necessary (必要的) to form good cooking habits and learn some home safety knowledge in daily life. Right safety ideas can help us stay away from sudden burns and all kinds of dangerous kitchen accidents.

David回答“I’m reading the Chinese classic novel…”,因此Lucy询问的是他正在读什么书。此处也可填“What are you reading?”。

Suddenly, the bookcase started shaking, and the cup of water fell to the floor. It woke up Mary. She looked around and found everything was shaking. She started shouting.
36. What do many teachers encourage students to do according to paragraph 1?
A. Develop different hobbies. B. Focus on the schoolwork.
C. Play more outdoor games. D. Read more books every day.
37. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Ways to keep healthy. B. Tips for good writing.
C. Hobbies and their benefits. D. Sports and their bad points.
38. Why is Li Mei a good example?
A. She learns new skills quickly.
第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
41. What causes most cooking accidents?
____________________________________
42. What did Leo do after he turned the stove to high heat?

43. What wrong action did Leo take when the oil was on fire?

44. What can we use to put out an oil fire?
