Guide dogs are special and helpful friends for blind people. They can make people’s everyday life much easier. It takes almost two years to train (训练) a good guide dog before it works with its owner (主人).
Keeping a guide dog needs lots of love and hard work. When they are small baby dogs, kind volunteer (志愿的) families take them home and look after them for more than one year. During this time, the dogs learn easy rules and get used to living with people. Later, the special trainers teach them useful skills that blind people need most. For example, they learn to stop on busy streets, stay away from dangerous holes and find safe places on buses. Also, the teachers make sure these dogs can keep quiet when they see big noisy groups of people or hear sudden loud (大声的) noises.
Many blind people say guide dogs are not just animals. They are true friends that bring freedom and warmth. They could never go shopping or visit parks by themselves before, but now their guide dogs walk in front of them carefully. That’s why many blind people see their guide dogs as their families.
People know how great guide dogs are, so more people want to join volunteer training work. Helping train guide dogs is a great and meaningful thing for animal lovers across the UK.

It is fun when a nice song stays in your head. But it becomes bad if the song plays again and again all the time!
People call these songs earworms. You may have an earworm after you listen to a song. You can also think of the song and get an earworm when you go to the place where you first listened to it.
Scientists study earworms for many years. They find some songs are easier to stay in our heads. First, these songs are usually fast. Second, their music is easy to remember. Third, their sound changes in special ways.
With brain (大脑) pictures, scientists find out what happens inside our heads with earworms. When we listen to music or just think about it, one part of our brain starts to work. It helps us understand all kinds of sounds. It sends messages to other brain parts about our memories and feelings. Some scientists say the brain keeps sending these messages without stopping, so we hear the same song over and over in our mind.
Why does our brain play one song again and again? People still don’t know the exact answer. A long time ago, people had no writing. They told useful things to each other with songs. So our brains might learn to keep songs inside to remember important news.
No matter why earworms happen, playing songs again and again can make us unhappy. But we have good ways to stop it. We can listen to a new song or play games to stop thinking about the old song. Eating what you like also works, because it stops the brain from keeping the song’s memory (记忆). If you do nothing, the song will disappear by itself soon. That’s really good news!

39. Which of the following can help people stop earworms?
A. Sing old songs every single day.
B. Try to eat anything you like.
C. Visit places of their old memories.

40. What can we learn from the whole passage?
A. Scientists already know why earworms happen.
B. Slow songs with fixed sound always turn into earworms.
C. Early humans used songs to pass down useful information.
D. People must do something to make earworms go away fast.
