Today, i'm going to talk about a simple but effective skill to make your campus life more organized. As you may find, building good habits is often harder than breaking bad ones. Many of you may fail because you depend too much on motivation, which does not last long. However, some successful people use a useful way called habit stacking, which means connecting a new habit you want to build with a previous one. The rule is easy. After I finish my usual habit, I will try the new, for example, if you want to read more but have no time, you can read during your morning coffee routine. In time, the two activities will become one simple plan. Habit stacking works because our brains like easy patterns. IT makes starting new actions easier. You do not need strong willpower, and you will not forget to do IT to make IT work, remember to start very small, do not try big changes at first, then be patient with yourself. If you miss a day, just get back on track. The goal is progress, not being perfect. Good morning, everyone. Rock and roll music developed in the United States in the early 1950s. It was based on the music called rhythm and blues that was performed by African American musicians.
Early rock and roll singers developed their own kinds of music. Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys and Bob Dylan were the most popular rock and roll musicians in the early 1960s. All were American. Then, in 1964, a new rock and roll group from Britain invaded America: the Beatles.
Some people say the Beatles’ music shook America like an earthquake. The Beatles changed rock and roll forever. Their early songs were influenced by American rock and roll musicians, including Chuck Berry. But the Beatles looked different and sounded different from any other musical groups before them.
The Beatles released their first album in the United States in 1964, when all of the top five records in America were by the Beatles. In 1967, they released an album called Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was one of the first “concept” albums. That is, all the songs were linked by a common story or idea.
The popularity of the Beatles led the way for more rock and roll bands from Britain to become popular in America. The Rolling Stones was the most important of these bands. The Rolling Stones is one of the few groups from the 1960’s that is still performing and recording today. In 1965, the group recorded one of its most famous songs, Satisfaction.
The musical instrument most linked to rock and roll is the guitar. Experts say Jimi Hendrix was one of the most influential guitar players in rock and roll during the late 1960s. His Purple Haze was liked by many people.
By the 1970s, rock and roll music became known as rock music. It expanded into many new forms. For example, there was country rock, hard rock, acid rock, heavy metal rock, punk rock, jazz rock and glitter rock.
In the middle 1970s, experts say rock music regained some of the energy of early rock and roll. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band became popular with their album Born to Run. Springsteen’s music was like the lively rock and roll music of the early 1960s. Many of his songs were about social issues. He sang about the effects of unemployment and the war in Vietnam.
21.The main topic of this passage is___________.
A.the history of American music B.the development of rock and roll music
C.the famous rock and roll groups D.the new forms of rock and roll music
22.Which of the following matches is NOT true?
A.the Beatles — Chuck Berry B.the Rolling Stones — Satisfaction
C.Jimi Hendrix — Purple Haze D.Bruce Springsteen — Born to Run
23.Whose songs were mainly about social problems like unemployment and war?

People in the US throw away at least 17 million tons of textiles (纺织品) every year — about 100 pounds of clothing per person. At the same time, unsold blouses, jackets, and other fashion-industry leftovers end up in landfills (垃圾填埋场) such as the one in Chile’s Atacama Desert, so vast as to be visible from space. Many of these items are fast fashion — made quickly, sold cheaply, and in style for too short a time because the industry relies on novelty to keep consumers buying.
Every year the global fashion industry gives off up to 10 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas. Growing cotton involves large quantities of harmful chemicals, and coloring clothes pollutes rivers with dangerous waste. Man-made materials like nylon are made with fossil (化石) fuels and release microfibers with every wash.
To address these problems, it’s time to build a recycling system in fashion — one that reuses clothes, cloth and threads, recycles whenever possible and encourages producers and sellers to choose textiles and processes that minimize the use of raw resources such as cotton.
As awareness increases, many people are donating to or buying from second-hand stores or, when they shop new, looking for “certified organic” labels. Consumers should be aware that they can prod authorities and brands to take action by deciding which brands to support. Under such pressure, many companies are trying to figure out how to remain profitable while producing less and ensuring that what they do make does less harm to people and the planet. Consumers and companies alone can’t solve such a vast ecological and climate problem, however. Last year California rolled out an extended producer responsibility (EPR) law for textiles, which requires brands with more than $ 1 million in global sales to pay for reuse, repair or recycling of their products.
“We are watching closely,” says Rachel Van Metre Kibbe, founder and CEO of advisory firm Circular Services Group. “What I have in mind is a recycling economy, which begins with designing products for lasting use rather than quick replacement.”
24.Why do people throw away so many clothes each year?
A.Many items are cheaply sold. B.Fashion trends change quickly.
C.Most clothes are poorly made. D.People tend to follow the crowd.
25.What does the fashion recycling system advocate doing?
A.Cutting the share of fast fashion. B.Making better use of existing resources.
C.Lowering prices for used clothes. D.Limiting the need for processed products.
26.What does the underlined word “prod” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Urge. B.Support. C.Follow. D.Accept.
27.What does Rachel value in products?
A.Low costs. B.Attractive designs. C.Long-term use. D.Regular replacement.

As the first rays of sunlight spread across southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, Tashi Yangzom studied satellite imagery, her eyes quietly tracking shifting weather systems unfolding on the screen. “The weather here is like a child’s changeable face,” said the 60-year-old. “We have to learn to read it.”
Born into a road maintenance worker’s family in Xizang’s Bomi County, Yangzom understood the impact of weather on daily life from a young age. “The weather determined my parents’ daily work — whether to bring an umbrella in the morning, whether construction could proceed in the afternoon and whether the wind would pick up toward evening,” she said, adding that when her parents were working outdoors, her heart would tighten at the sight of dark clouds in the sky.
After graduating from college in 1988, Yangzom became a meteorologist (气象学家) at the regional observatory in Lhasa. Back then, the most advanced equipment was a manually operated satellite image receiver. “The images were unclear, as if we were looking at the mysterious plateau (高原) through frosted glass. Sometimes, to identify an approaching heavy snowfall, we had to work over 10 hours,” she recalled.
In 1997, the worst snowstorm in nearly a century struck northern Xizang. Yangzom and her team moved into the computer room, working around the clock to determine how deep the snow was and how far it extended. After days of adjustments, their self-developed snow monitoring system provided the region’s first-ever snow depth data, enabling authorities to respond in time and prevent loss of life and livestock.
Although Yangzom retired last year, she has been working tirelessly to train the next generation. At her innovation studio, she encourages young professionals to choose their own topics and lead research with funding support. Figures show that the number of surface weather stations in Xizang has increased from 23 in 1965 to 1,284 today, covering all townships.
“My teacher Tashi Yangzom trained me from day one. Young staff like me will carry on her dedication to Xizang’s meteorological work,” one young technician said.
28.How does the author lead in the topic of the text?
A.By giving an example. B.By quoting a celebrity.
C.By presenting a scene. D.By defining a concept.
29.Why does the author mention Yangzom’s childhood memories?
A.To detail the hardships of her family.
B.To explain her early weather awareness.
C.To show her parents’ inspiration to her.
D.To describe the tough climate in Xizang.
30.Which of the following can best describe Yangzom?
A.Talented and sociable. B.Ambitious and modest.
C.Curious and humorous. D.Dedicated and determined.
31.What do the young technician’s words emphasize?
A.The continuity of commitment. B.The importance of cooperation.
C.The demand for modern technology. D.The popularity of meteorology.

I haven’t met a poetry-lover under thirty who was not an introvert, or an introvert who was not unhappy in adolescence. At school, particularly, maybe, if, as in my own case, it is a boarding school, he sees the outgoing classmates successful and happy, and himself unpopular or neglected; and what is hardest to bear is not unpopularity, but the consciousness that it is deserved, that he is inferior and dull. Knowing no other society, he imagines that he is doomed to failure.
It is not till he grows up, till years later he meets the heroes of his school days and finds them grown commonplace and ordinary, that he realizes the introvert is the lucky one. The introvert can best adapt to an industrial civilization where collective values are so childish that he who has learned how to draw upon the resources of his inner life can be the winners of life.
At the time, however, his adolescence is unpleasant enough. Unable to imagine a society where he would feel at home, he turns away from the human to the nonhuman, and the growing life within him will express itself in a devotion to music and thoughts. Art for him will be precious and pessimistic. If it speaks of love it must be love frustrated, for all success seems to him noisy and vulgar, for the world he knows will not change.
Deep as first love and wild with all regret,
O death in life, the days that are no more.
Now more than ever seems it sweet to die,
To cease upon the midnight with no pain.
That to the adolescent is the authentic poetic note and whoever is the first in his life to strike it, awakens a passion of imitation and an affectation that cannot be destroyed. In my own case the poet was Hardy; for more than a year I read no one else. I smuggled (偷渡) them into class, carried them about on Sunday walks, and took them up to the dormitory, though they were too heavy to be read in bed with comfort.
He looked like my father: that broad moustache, bald forehead, and deeply lined face that belonged to that other world of feeling. Here was a writer whose emotions, if sometimes boring in expression, would be deeper and more faithful than my own, and whose attachment to the earth would be more secure and obvious.
Adapted from an article written by W. H. Auden

33.The author regards the introverted adolescent as ultimately lucky because he has _______.
A.become financially successful in an industrialized society
B.developed inner resources that he will need in modern society
C.a better general education than those who were outgoing in school
D.learned to appreciate and draw inspirations from nature
34.The poem quoted is most likely included as _______.

Labubu dolls are fads (时尚) that have sprung out of nowhere in the last few years. They’re probably over by the time you read this. 36 Fads are unpredictable; they come out of the blue and spread like wildfire, before dying out after weeks, months or occasionally years. They’re driven by freshness and uniqueness.
It’s easy to blame social media for the growth of fads. But we had crazes long before we were well linked to the Internet. 37 With social media, something can become a hit in days and reach millions.
Fads and crazes tend to be specialized, serving a specific community, but few communities are free of them. Love music? Here’s an extremely limited-edition signed release packed with lots of extra goodies. And that’s how you turn a normal item into something rare and hard to get. 38 That in turn fuels obsession (痴迷), which in turn makes us spend money before we’ve even thought about whether it’s something we actually want.
Fads drive overconsumption, but there’s a reason we fall for it. First is a natural desire to belong. We want to be part of a group and be able to share experiences. 39 We don’t want to feel left out or excluded.
40 If you have the money to spare and something brings you joy, then the odd treat isn’t harmful. But if you start to feel an obsessive need or you’re consuming beyond your means, this can develop into a problem. Fads rely on our deep need for connection and belonging, but they also expose our weak points. Learning to exercise control, build awareness and explore the why can help us better understand our motivations before jumping headfirst into the latest craze.
A.Such is the nature of a fad.
B.Influencer culture certainly helps.
C.We also seek value through others around us.
D.No one is saying you shouldn’t follow a fad or craze.
E.What has changed is how fast a fad can start and travel.
F.Limited runs and waiting lists create a sense of urgency.
G.Some fads are simply good fun, low cost and ultimately harmless.

On a freezing winter evening, seventeen-year-old Marcus was walking home from his part-time job at a grocery store. He had saved for months to buy his younger sister, Lily, a new wheelchair, as her old one was broken and uncomfortable. With his earnings finally enough, he would place the order online the next day, expecting delivery before her birthday next week. Lost in happy thoughts, he took a shortcut (近路) through the park, a path he knew well even in the dark.
Suddenly, a weak cry for help broke the silence. Marcus stopped and listened carefully. The cry came again, weaker this time, from the direction of the old oak tree near the pond. Following the sound, he found an elderly woman lying on the frozen ground, her leg twisted awkwardly beneath her. Her name was Mrs. Clark, and she had slipped (滑倒) on black ice while walking her small dog, Max. Marcus quickly helped her into a sitting position and wrapped his own scarf (围巾) around her shaking shoulders. She told him that she had been lying there for nearly an hour and that her phone had fallen into the pond, unable to reach her daughter. Marcus knew he had to get her to a hospital immediately, but his phone battery was dead, and the park was deserted at this hour. Without hesitation, he helped Mrs. Clark onto his back and began the long, difficult walk toward the main road, with Max following closely behind.
After what felt like half an hour, they finally reached the street, and a passing driver stopped to take them to the county hospital. Mrs. Clark was diagnosed (诊断) with a broken leg and would need surgery. Marcus stayed with her until the nurses assured him she would be fine. When he finally returned home late that night, he was tired but felt a deep sense of peace.

由文章第一段“Rock and roll music developed in the United States in the early 1950s. It was based on the music called rhythm and blues that was performed by African American musicians.(摇滚乐于20世纪50年代初在美国发展起来。它基于非裔美国音乐家演奏的节奏蓝调音乐。)”、第二段“Early rock and roll singers developed their own kinds of music. Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys and Bob Dylan were the most popular rock and roll musicians in the early 1960s. All were American. Then, in 1964, a new rock and roll group from Britain invaded America: the Beatles.(早期的摇滚歌手发展出了自己的音乐风格。埃尔维斯·普雷斯利、查克·贝里、海滩男孩和鲍勃·迪伦是20世纪60年代初最受欢迎的摇滚音乐家。他们都是美国人。然后,在1964年,一个来自英国的新摇滚乐队入侵了美国:披头士乐队。)”以及下文可知,文章主要讲摇滚乐的发展。故选B项。
22.细节理解题。由文章第三段“Some people say the Beatles’ music shook America like an earthquake. The Beatles changed rock and roll forever. Their early songs were influenced by American rock and roll musicians, including Chuck Berry. But the Beatles looked different and sounded different from any other musical groups before them.(有人说披头士的音乐像地震一样震撼了美国。披头士乐队永远地改变了摇滚乐。他们早期的歌曲受到了包括Chuck Berry在内的美国摇滚音乐家的影响。但披头士乐队看起来不同,听起来也不同于他们之前的任何其他音乐团体。)”可知,Chuck Berry并不属于披头士乐队。故选A项。
由文章最后一段“Springsteen’s music was like the lively rock and roll music of the early 1960s. Many of his songs were about social issues. He sang about the effects of unemployment and the war in Vietnam.(Springsteen的音乐就像20世纪60年代初活跃的摇滚乐。他的许多歌曲都是关于社会问题的。他歌唱失业和越南战争的影响。)”可知,Springsteen的歌曲主要是关于失业和战争等社会问题。故选D项。
24.细节理解题。根据第一段“Many of these items are fast fashion — made quickly, sold cheaply, and in style for too short a time because the industry relies on novelty to keep consumers buying.(这些衣物很多都是快时尚产品——生产快、售价低、流行周期极短,因为该行业依靠新颖性来拉动消费者持续购买)”可知,每年人们丢弃大量衣物是因为时尚潮流更新变化快,衣物流行时间很短。
根据第三段“To address these problems, it’s time to build a recycling system in fashion — one that reuses clothes, cloth and threads, recycles whenever possible and encourages producers and sellers to choose textiles and processes that minimize the use of raw resources such as cotton.(为解决这些问题,我们是时候在时尚界建立一个回收体系了——重复利用衣物、布料与纱线,尽可能开展回收工作,同时鼓励生产商和销售商选择能够最大限度减少棉花等原生资源使用的纺织品与生产工艺)”可知,时尚回收体系倡导更好地利用现有资源,减少对原生资源的消耗。
根据第四段“Consumers should be aware that they can prod authorities and brands to take action by deciding which brands to support. Under such pressure, many companies are trying to figure out how to remain profitable while producing less and ensuring that what they do make does less harm to people and the planet.(消费者应当知道,他们可以通过选择支持哪些品牌prod官方机构和品牌采取行动。在这样的压力下,很多企业正试图找到方法,在减少产量并且确保自己生产的产品对人类和地球伤害更小的同时保持盈利)”可知,后文提到企业因此感受到压力,开始寻找方法,说明消费者的行为是敦促官方和品牌行动,“prod”意思为“敦促、推动”,对应选项urge。
27.细节理解题。根据最后一段“What I have in mind is a recycling economy, which begins with designing products for lasting use rather than quick replacement.(我想到的是循环经济,它始于设计持久使用的产品,而不是快速更换)”可知,Rachel重视产品的长期使用属性。
根据第一段“As the first rays of sunlight spread across southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, Tashi Yangzom studied satellite imagery, her eyes quietly tracking shifting weather systems unfolding on the screen.(清晨第一缕阳光洒在中国西南部的西藏自治区,扎西央宗查看卫星图像,目光静静追踪屏幕上不断变化的天气系统。)”
根据第二段“Born into a road maintenance worker’s family in Xizang’s Bomi County, Yangzom understood the impact of weather on daily life from a young age.(央宗出生在西藏波密县一个养路工人家庭,她从小就明白天气对日常生活的影响。)”
根据第四段“In 1997, the worst snowstorm in nearly a century struck northern Xizang. Yangzom and her team moved into the computer room, working around the clock to determine how deep the snow was and how far it extended.(1997 年西藏北部遭遇百年不遇暴雪,央宗和团队住进机房,昼夜不休测算积雪深度与覆盖范围。)”能看出她意志坚定、吃苦耐劳;根据第五段“Although Yangzom retired last year, she has been working tirelessly to train the next generation.(尽管去年已经退休,她依旧不知疲倦地培养新一代气象工作者。)”
根据最后一段“My teacher Tashi Yangzom trained me from day one. Young staff like me will carry on her dedication to Xizang’s meteorological work,(我的老师扎西央宗从入职第一天起就悉心培养我。我这样的年轻工作人员会传承她对西藏气象事业的这份坚守,)”可知,年轻技术员的话语重点强调央宗的敬业精神会被后辈延续,突出这份事业奉献精神的传承延续。
32.细节理解题。根据第一段中“I haven’t met a poetry-lover under thirty who was not an introvert, or an introvert who was not unhappy in adolescence. At school, particularly, maybe, if, as in my own case, it is a boarding school, he sees the outgoing classmates successful and happy, and himself unpopular or neglected; and what is hardest to bear is not unpopularity, but the consciousness that it is deserved, that he is inferior and dull.(我从未见过哪个三十岁以下的诗歌爱好者不是内向之人,也从未见过哪个内向之人在青春期中不曾郁郁寡欢。尤其在校园里——若如我当年那般身处寄宿学校——他眼见着外向的同窗意气风发,自己却寂寂无闻;最刺骨的并非被冷落本身,而是清醒地意识到这种冷落理所应当,承认自己平庸乏味)”可知,根据作者的说法,30岁以下的诗歌爱好者通常在学校期间有强烈的自卑感。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段中“The introvert can best adapt to an industrial civilization where collective values are so childish that he who has learned how to draw upon the resources of his inner life can be the winners of life.(内向者恰恰最能适应工业文明——在这种文明形态中,集体价值观已肤浅到如此地步,以至于懂得汲取内心世界养分之人,反而能成为人生的赢家)”可推知,作者认为内向的青少年最终是幸运的,因为他已经发展出了在现代社会中需要的内心世界养分。
根据第三段中“Art for him will be precious and pessimistic. If it speaks of love it must be love frustrated, for all success seems to him noisy and vulgar, for the world he knows will not change.(艺术对他来说是珍贵而悲观的。如果它说的是爱情,那一定是受挫的爱情,因为在他看来,所有的成功都是喧闹和庸俗的,因为他知道这个世界不会改变)”、下文的诗歌“Deep as first love and wild with all regret, O death in life, the days that are no more. Now more than ever seems it sweet to die, To cease upon the midnight with no pain.(像初恋一样深沉,带着所有的遗憾狂野,哦,生中的死,不再有的日子。现在比以往任何时候都更觉得死亡是甜蜜的,在午夜毫无痛苦地停止呼吸)”和倒数第二段中“That to the adolescent is the authentic poetic note and whoever is the first in his life to strike it, awakens a passion of imitation and an affectation that cannot be destroyed.(对于青少年来说,这是真正的诗意音符,无论谁在人生中第一次敲响它,都会激起一种模仿的热情和一种无法摧毁的矫饰)”可知,作者引用诗歌是为了说明内向不快乐的青少年会被什么样的诗歌吸引,故这首诗很可能是作为吸引不快乐青少年的诗歌例子而包括在内的。
根据倒数第二段中“In my own case the poet was Hardy; for more than a year I read no one else. I smuggled (偷渡) them into class, carried them about on Sunday walks, and took them up to the dormitory, though they were too heavy to be read in bed with comfort.(就我自己而言,那位诗人是哈代;一年多来,我没有读过其他人的作品。我把它们偷运到教室里,在周日散步时带着它们,把它们带到宿舍里,尽管它们太重了,无法舒服地在床上阅读)”和最后一段中“Here was a writer whose emotions, if sometimes boring in expression, would be deeper and more faithful than my own, and whose attachment to the earth would be more secure and obvious.(这是一位情感表达有时虽然枯燥,但比我自己更深刻、更忠实的作家,他对大地的依恋会更加安全和明显)”可推知,对于作者来说,哈代的诗是他第一个珍视的诗歌挚爱。
36.根据前文“Labubu dolls are fads (时尚) that have sprung out of nowhere in the last few years. They’re probably over by the time you read this. (拉布布玩偶是近几年突然兴起的潮流,或许你读到这段内容的时候它就已经过气了)”以及后文“Fads are unpredictable; they come out of the blue and spread like wildfire, before dying out after weeks, months or occasionally years. (潮流难以预测,它们突然爆火、迅速传播,再历经数周、数月甚至偶尔数年逐渐消退)”可知,A选项“Such is the nature of a fad. (这就是时尚潮流的本质)”承接前文时尚潮流(fad)的话题、引出后文对潮流特点的说明,符合语境。
37.根据前文“But we had crazes long before we were well linked to the Internet. (但早在我们用上互联网之前就已经有流行热潮了)”以及后文“With social media, something can become a hit in days and reach millions. (借助社交媒体,某样事物可以在几天内风靡一时,并迅速传播到数百万用户)”可知,E选项“What has changed is how fast a fad can start and travel. (发生改变的是潮流兴起和传播的速度)”衔接没有互联网和社媒出现后时尚潮流的差异,符合语境。
38.根据前文“And that’s how you turn a normal item into something rare and hard to get. (这就是把普通物品变得稀缺难获取的方法)”以及后文“That in turn fuels obsession (痴迷), which in turn makes us spend money (这继而催生痴迷情绪,转而让我们花钱消费)”可知,F选项“Limited runs and waiting lists create a sense of urgency. (限量发售和候补名单会制造紧迫感)”承接前文让物品变稀缺的方式,引出后文人们痴迷消费的结果,符合语境。
39.根据前文“First is a natural desire to belong. We want to be part of a group and be able to share experiences. (第一个原因是天生的归属感渴望,我们想要融入群体、分享经历)”以及后文“We don’t want to feel left out or excluded. (我们不想感到被孤立排挤)”可知,此处是在分析人们追逐潮流的原因,C选项“We also seek value through others around us. (我们也会从身边人身上寻求价值认同)”延续归属感的心理分析,补充另一层面的动因,符合语境。
40.根据后文“If you have the money to spare and something brings you joy, then the odd treat isn’t harmful. (如果你有富余资金,某样东西能带来快乐,偶尔跟风消费并无坏处)”以及“But if you start to feel an obsessive need or you’re consuming beyond your means, this can develop into a problem. (但如果你开始产生强烈的执念,或过度消费超出自身承受能力,这可能会演变成问题)”可知,本段辩证看待追潮流这件事,D选项“No one is saying you shouldn’t follow a fad or craze. (没人说你绝对不能追逐时尚热潮)”总起本段的辩证观点,引出后文分情况讨论,符合语境。

第四部分 写作(共两节, 满分40分)
书信写作【参考范文:】
Dear fellow volunteers and friends,
I’m Li Hua, a volunteer for the 2026 Marathon held in our city. Today I’d like to share some impressive moments.
What touched me most was the runners’ perseverance. Tired as they were, many runners insisted on finishing the race, showing the spirit of never giving up. Besides, I witnessed a warm scene at the finish line: a little girl awarded her father a medal to praise his persistent effort.
These moments taught me that a marathon is more than a race. It carries spiritual strength and warm family love. I feel honored to take part in this meaningful activity.
Thank you.
The next morning, Marcus received a phone call. It was from Mrs. Clark’s daughter, who tearfully expressed her family’s heartfelt gratitude. She explained that her mother’s surgery had gone well and that they had learned about Marcus’s act of kindness from the nurses. But that was not all. Mrs. Clark, a retired engineer, had heard about Marcus’s saving for Lily’s wheelchair. Deeply moved by his sacrifice — risking the delivery money for taxi fare — she decided to help. Before Marcus could refuse, the daughter told him that a brand-new, customized wheelchair had already been ordered and would arrive at Lily’s birthday party.
A week later, Marcus and Lily met Mrs. Clark at a community thank-you event. Mrs. Clark was sitting in a regular chair, her leg still in a cast but her smile warm and bright. Lily, now comfortably sitting in the new wheelchair, rolled over to give her a big hug. “Thank you for my wonderful chair!” Lily beamed. Mrs. Clark gently stroked Lily’s hair and said, “It is your brother who should be thanked. He taught us that a good heart is the most valuable gift one can give.” As Marcus looked at the two, one young and one old, both grateful and smiling, he understood that true happiness did not come from receiving, but from the quiet joy of having made a difference in someone’s life.

W: Andrew, will you take care of your sister Lizzy on Saturday morning? I have a doctor’s appointment then.
M: Sure. We’ll hang out in the park.
M: We are having some work done in our backyard this year.
W: I like your yard the way it is. Why are you changing it?
M: Now that our grandchildren are getting older, we’re pulling down the stone wall and putting in a pool.
W: Can I help you?
M: Thanks, sweet Olivia, but it’s all under control. I only have a few glasses to wash. Why don’t you choose something relaxing to listen to? The record player is in the living room.
W: Sure.
M: Could you put the garden chairs away, Tina?
W: Sure, just give me two minutes to finish this chapter. I can’t put the story down.
M: Don’t be too long. According to the news, the heavy rain is coming soon.
W: Mr. Simpson, a pressing issue has come up — we’re short of labor. Robots might solve the problem.
M: Possibly. Robots are good at cleaning, but they can’t handle difficult tasks. We still need more workers.
M: Hey, Katherine, I’m going to grab some coffee. Do you want one?
W: Yes, please! I really need some — I’m so sleepy.
M: The café downstairs has a special promotion, 20% off. You can check the menu on your phone.
W: OK, let me pull it up real quick... Just get me a large Americano with two sugar packets on the side, please. The original price is 10 dollars.
M: Large Americano, two sugars — got it. Anything else?
W: Could you also grab me a cheese cake? It’s the same price as the Americano.
M: No problem.
W: Have you heard about acupuncture for pets?
M: No. What’s that?
W: Acupuncture is one of traditional Chinese medicine treatments. My neighbor Mr. Daly sent his disabled dog Max for acupuncture. After six acupuncture treatments, the dog could hop like a rabbit! Maybe you could try it for Ginger.
M: That’s amazing! But could it work on Ginger, too? I mean he is a cat while Max is a dog.
W: You can put your mind at ease. Traditional Chinese medicine treatments work on cats as well. In fact, they’re effective for many animals.
M: Really? They must be expensive. How much did Mr. Daly spend on each acupuncture treatment?
W: About 200 yuan each time. That’s quite affordable. Mr. Daly chose traditional Chinese medicine treatments, because he thought they are good alternatives to surgeries which can be really costly.
M: True. Surgeries are also risky.
W: If you’re interested, I can ask Mr. Daly about the location of the Chinese medicine center.
W: If you could interview any person from history, no matter if they are alive or dead, who would you choose?
M: Oh, that’s a really good question. I’m not sure — maybe William Shakespeare.
W: Why do you choose him? Do you like the plays he wrote?
M: The main reason is that I want to hear how he spoke. Shakespeare was from central England, so he probably had an accent from that area — but no one knows for sure.
W: I think this will always be a secret.
M: That’s right. What about you? Who would you choose to interview?
W: Maybe Charlie Chaplin.
M: He must have many interesting stories to tell, especially about all the films he acted in. He wrote some music too.
W: Yes, but I just want to hear his voice. Most of his films were silent, so I don’t really know what he sounded like.
M: Excuse me, Mary.
W: Yes? You look so worried. Is everything OK?
M: Well, two of my friends just called me, saying they will come to visit me tomorrow. I haven’t seen them for a while and… They’ve helped me a lot when I was working with them last year. So I’d like to return the favor by cooking a dinner for them. And the day after tomorrow I’m going to show them around the new museum of our city.
W: Oh no! It’s Friday today. You promised me that we would be there enjoying a pleasant weekend!
M: Yes, I know. I am terribly sorry.
W: I have already booked the tickets for tomorrow’s concert and you know I really look forward to attending it!
M: I’m really really sorry, but I can’t go with you, dear. I give you my word that I will be there next time.
W: Wait a second…are you saying…I can go?
M: Yes, I know how much you enjoy concerts. So I will be at home receiving my friends and I will cook the dinner for them.
W: Thank you so much for doing this for me, dear.
M: Well, I guess that’s why you marry me.
M: Good morning, everyone. Today I’m going to talk about a simple but effective skill to make your campus life more organized. As you may find, building good habits is often harder than breaking bad ones. Many of you may fail because you depend too much on motivation, which does not last long. However, some successful people use a useful way called “habit stacking”, which means connecting a new habit you want to build with a previous one. The rule is easy: “After I finish my usual habit, I will try the new.” For example, if you want to read more but have no time, you can read during your morning coffee routine. In time, the two activities will become one simple plan. “Habit stacking” works because our brains like easy patterns. It makes starting new actions easier. You do not need strong willpower, and you will not forget to do it. To make it work, remember to start very small. Do not try big changes at first. Then, be patient with yourself. If you miss a day, just get back on track. The goal is progress, not being perfect.
