Yulong Snow Mountain is a famous spot in Yunnan Province. It is covered with snow all year round, and some ice and snow there has a history of thousands of years. The mountain covers an area of about 415 square kilometers, and its top is 5,596 meters above sea level.
In recent years, more and more tourists have visited the mountain. But this has caused a serious problem—too much rubbish. To solve this problem, the cleaners in the spot have tried their best to keep it clean.
The cleaners start their work at 5:30 a.m. to get ready for the first tourists and finish at 7:30 p.m. when tourists leave the mountain. During busy travel times, such as the National Day holiday, they fill nearly 200 outdoor rubbish bags every day. Their job is much harder and more dangerous than most people think.
Liu Haowei is one of these cleaners. He mainly cleans up empty oxygen cylinders (氧气瓶) and other rubbish that visitors throw on the cliffs (悬崖). The cliffs are very dangerous. Besides, the high altitude (海拔) makes the air thin, so the cleaners may have difficulty breathing while working.

They are glad to find that more and more tourists have known the importance of protecting the mountain’s environment and thrown less rubbish.

Great changes have taken place in people’s ways of communication in recent years.
In the past, we got in touch via letters, calls and emails. Handwritten letters hold deep warmth but arrive slowly. Long-distance phone calls bring real voices but charge high fees. As for emails, they can deliver long written messages and files, yet we have to wait hours for replies and cannot talk instantly. Today WeChat is widely used. It’s totally free and supports voice and video chats, though overusing it makes us ignore offline communication.
I mainly use WeChat. I love it because its video function lets me meet distant family visually, and I can share little moments with my friends at any time.
