If you grew up in an unusual family and felt limited by heavy thoughts, how would you change your life story? In the book Educated, the US writer Tara Westover shows us how she deals with hard times.
The book talks about Westover’s life. Her father had a junkyard (废品场) in Idaho, US. It’s a very small mountain village. Tara and her brothers and sisters worked every day. Before she turned 17, she had never travelled outside. None of the kids in her family had ever been to a school or a hospital. As she got older, she felt that she needed to get away from this uncomfortable situation. Luckily, Westover’s older brother taught her to read. With hard work, Westover went to college on a scholarship, and later got a PhD (博士学位) in History at Cambridge University.
Education changed her, her life, her way of thinking and even her luck. After reading the book, I come to feel the deepest thanks for my own family, and the education I got. Education allows girls like Westover to fly like birds toward their own goals. It allows us to get a different view, find new experiences, better understand others and explore the wider world. I wish for all of us to be like free and powerful birds, growing and changing through challenges and difficulties.

①Ben isn’t the only person that has experienced this situation. Something similar has probably happened to most of us before. It is natural to feel unsure of ourselves when starting conversations with strangers. A good starting point is to ask the person questions about himself or herself and talk about something you both like such as football or pop music. This can make social situations more relaxed. Then you’ll be glad you went to the party.
②Finally, I turned to the person next to me and introduced myself. “Hi,” I said. “My name’s Ben.” “Hi, I’m Tania,” the person replied shyly. Then there was a long silence as I kept trying to think about what to say next. I felt more and more nervous and the other person was looking uncomfortable, too. In the end, all I could say was, “Well, it was nice meeting you,” and I quickly walked away. I felt so embarrassed that I left the party.
③It was Friday night and I could hear loud music and people talking as I walked through the door. My friend saw me and came over. “Hey Ben! Thanks for coming to my party!” he said. “Thanks for inviting me. It looks like a great party,” I replied. But I had a secret feeling of fear. I realized that I didn’t know anyone there. I moved towards the drinks table and got a drink. Then I nervously stood in a corner, not quite sure what to do.

D. He quickly walked away.
40. What does the writer suggest for Ben’s situation?

Wearing a white blouse, Ai-Da studies her drawing and puts pencil to paper. She looks like any artist at work. However, the “beep…beep…beep” noise from her arm gives her away. Ai-Da, is in fact, a robot.
Ai-Da has been described as the world’s “first AI robot artist”. She takes her name from Ada Lovelace, the world’s first female computer programmer. Scientists at Oxford University developed AI systems for Ai-Da. The robot has cameras in her eyeballs. After she has studied an object, she will use her left arm to draw. Now, Ai-Da can only use a pencil for sketches (素描). The plan is for her to paint.
Ai-Da is not the first AI system to make art works. Since 2006, scientists have been developing software (软件) to turn photos into drawings. Last year, an artwork created using AI was sold in New York for $432,500. However, Ai-Da’s human-like appearance brings something new to the field.
In June, Ai-Da opened her first exhibition at Oxford. There were over 30 drawings by the robot. Ai-Da, standing next to her artworks, caught many visitors’ eyes.
Ai-Da’s inventor, Aidan Meller, talked about the importance of the robot. “Ai-Da brings a new voice to the art world,” he said. “AI is going to be the big thing of the 2020s. That brings us great changes.” Meller hopes the exhibition was just the start and that more will follow to show how AI is making a difference to human life.

A. She wears a black blouse while drawing.
B. She looks like a real working artist.
C. She makes no noise when she works.
D. She can finish drawings very fast.

A. It is named after a famous artist in Oxford.
B. It comes from the name of the first female computer programmer.

D. It stands for the first AI art system in the world.
43. What is Ai-Da able to do at present?
A. Paint colorful pictures freely.
B. Draw with her right arm.
C. Make pencil sketches of objects.
D. Take photos and turn them into paintings.

A. It can create more valuable artworks.
B. It has a human-like look.
C. Its artworks have been sold at a high price.
D. It has a longer history of creating art.
45. What can we infer from Aidan Meller’s words?

七、阅读表达(共 5 小题,计 10 分)

Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and Success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves." In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future -for example, getting into college or getting a good job -that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. (3) People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.
Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience this by dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. (4) Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

The book talks about Westover’s life. Her father had a junkyard (废品场) in Idaho, US. It’s a very small mountain village. Tara and her brothers and sisters worked every day.
