(2025·安徽六校入学考试)That youngsters were glued to online games on their smartphones was a great concern for Ngurang Meena,a school teacher in Nirjuli. The 30-year-old social science teacher, who ran the Ngurang Learning Institute,an adult literacy centre, said that she felt disheartened when she read student papers.“The graph of student performance is falling every year.It breaks my heart whenever I see answer sheets—basic grammar skills are missing and there's an absence of any cohesive (连贯的) expression. They lack guidance and their reading culture is almost zero,” Meena said. When her school and the centre she ran had to close due to an infectious disease, she planned to do something to address the problem.
Inspired by a similar proposal in Mizoram,Meena set up a bookshelf with around 80 books as well as some benches on the side of the road in Nirjuli on 30 August 2020,where passers-by could spend time reading. The selections included motivational books, biographies and novels as well as comics for young children.“I have to please the minors with sweets to attract them to the bookshelf, but that is okay,” she laughed.
Meena's bookshelf became a hit among youngsters who spent hours in the reading corner.Within two months, her effort became the talk of the town.
Now,generous contributions of books come in from the public and she is even receiving requests to set up such libraries in other parts of the state.Since the tiny libraries are far from the main town, she also lends books out to those who want to read at home.
“I never thought that this would become such a big inspiration,” Meena said.“Since childhood,we have been told that books are our best friends. The next generation of kids is focused on games and other things.I don't want them to head on the wrong track,” she added.
1.What's the aim of Meena's reading program?
A.To care for youngsters lacking in reading.
B.To help adults learn some cohesive expression.
C.To keep Ngurang Learning Institute running well.
D.To highlight the importance of reading for adults.
根据第一段Meena说的话中的“They lack guidance and their reading culture is almost zero”以及第二段中谈到的具体举措“Meena set up a bookshelf with around 80 books...where passers-by could spend time reading.”
答案 A
2.What did Meena do to encourage young kids to read more?
A.She offered some rewards to them.
B.She provided them with transportation.
C.She chose novels with beautiful covers.
D.She selected books covering every category.
根据第二段中的“I have to please the minors with sweets to attract them to the bookshelf, but that is okay”可知,Meena通过给小孩子一些糖果作为奖励来鼓励他们多读书,故选A。
答案 A
3.Which words can best describe Meena's libraries?
A.Small and useless.
B.Influential and meaningful.
C.Large but impractical.
D.Widespread but unwelcome.
根据第三段中的“Meena's bookshelf became a hit among youngsters who spent hours in the reading corner.”可知,Meena的书架在年轻人中风靡一时,这些年轻人在读书角花很长时间(阅读),所以她的图书馆是有意义的;根据第四段中的“generous contributions of books come in from the public and she is even receiving requests to set up such libraries in other parts of the state.”
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.Books: Sources of Knowledge
B.The Roadside Reading Corner
C.The Library: An Ideal Place for the Young

B
(2025·浙江温州三模)One of the top sources of added sugar in children's diets in America is in their breakfast cereal(麦片).A study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine shows that advertising drives sales of high-sugar cereals when it's aimed directly at kids under 12—but not when it targets adults.
In the study, researchers looked at all cereals purchased by 77,000 U.S.households over a nine- year period, between 2008 and 2017.They also looked at Nielsen ratings data, which closely monitored all the ads that people in a household saw—both children and adults. What they found was a strong relationship between how much advertising was targeted to kids and how much sugary cereal that households with children bought.By contrast, there was no link to increased purchases when ads targeted adults. And these extensive data also showed that behaviors that were learned in childhood could track into adulthood, which could lead to poor health outcomes over a lifetime.
The study is the first to directly compare the influence of food advertising exposure by children with that of adults. The findings offer novel evidence of how food marketing turns children into the “ultimate weapon” in influencing family spending because they consistently ask their parents to purchase—a concept known as “pester_power”.
The food industry launched the Children's Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative,a voluntary effort to police itself. The 21 participating food companies made a commitment to cut back on marketing unhealthy foods to children under 12—later revised to under 13.A new study conducted in 2024 showed that children's exposure to cereal ads on TV programming aimed at kids has dropped dramatically.
But Lindsey Smith Taillie,a food policy researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, says these voluntary efforts aren't making a difference.Advertisements, like kids' eyeballs, are moving online, making it even harder to know what marketing children are being exposed to,Taillie notes.
5.What did the study find about child-targeted food ads?
A.They had no connection with adults' purchases.
B.They were less effective than adult-targeted ads.
C.They might affect children's health in the long run.
D.They could reduce children's interest in sugary food.
根据第二段中的“What they found was a strong relationship between how much advertising was targeted to kids and how much sugary cereal...behaviors that were learned in childhood could track into adulthood, which could lead to poor health outcomes over a lifetime.”
6.What does the underlined phrase “pester power” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Parents' unconditional love.
B.Children's uncontrolled spending.
C.Parents' growing consumption.
D.Children's repeated purchase requests.
根据画线短语所在句“The findings offer novel evidence of how food marketing turns children into the‘ultimate weapon’ in influencing family spending because they consistently ask their parents to purchase—a concept known as ‘pester_power.”
7.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.An expectation for further study.
B.The follow-up influence of the study.
C.A limitation of the research method.
D.The potential application of the findings.
8.What is Taillie's attitude toward the voluntary efforts?
A.Favorable. B.Tolerant.
C.Disapproving. D.Reserved.
由“the voluntary efforts”定位到第四、五段,再由第五段中的“these voluntary efforts aren't making a difference”以及文意“广告转向线上,更难监管”可知,“aren't making a difference”直接表明否定态度,即“不赞成”。
答案 C
C
(2025·湖北十一校第二次联考) When someone proposes a false claim, what's the best way to change their mind? A recent paper suggests that immediately negating the claim with evidence isn't especially effective.Instead,“bypassing” the false claim with positive counter(反)-claims about the topic might be a better strategy.
The classic response to someone presenting misinformation is to present counter-evidence.As the researchers at the Annenberg Public Policy Center (APPC) put it,“The gold standard for tackling misinformation is usually a correction that actually contradicts the misinformation.” Suppose, for example, that your dad passes back the roast potatoes over a family dinner, saying,“Are these GMOs (转基因产品)? Nah,don't want any more physical reactions.” You might then say,“Actually, the health bodies of all the G7 agree that GMOs do not cause reactions.” But that likely won't work. The APPC team conducted six experiments where they compared actually correcting someone with “bypassing” and found that using evidence and facts to disprove someone tends to be far less successful at changing attitudes.
So,what is bypassing and why is it seemingly more effective? Bypassing is where, instead of providing some negative rebuttal(驳斥) of a claim, you provide positive counter-claims about the topic. For example,if someone tells you that 5G kills birds, tell them that 5G adds billions to the world economy.Bypassing means not meeting your misinformed opponent head-on.This is not a battle of the studies. You are pushing an argument into a different position. It's using someone's movements and logic against them.
There are limitations to what the team at APPC has concluded.Their study into bypassing was largely about attitudes to policies, not about belief change or belief correction.Someone might still believe that 5G kills birds or that GMOs cause reactions, but admit that those are necessary bad things, compared to the positive outcomes you present them with.
So,bypassing isn't the only tool available, and it might not even be the best if your concern is belief change.Changing someone's belief is a complicated psychological topic, and there is definitely no one-size-fits-all strategy. When it comes to policy decisions and willingness to accept a certain technology or medicine, bypassing seems like a valuable tool to add to your kit.
9.According to the APPC research, how does “bypassing” differ from traditional corrections?
A.It uses stronger evidence.
B.It adopts emotional appeals.
C.It offers positive arguments.
D.It focuses on unrelated topics.
根据第二段中的“The classic response to someone presenting misinformation is to present counter-evidence.”以及第三段中的“Bypassing is where, instead of providing some negative rebuttal of a claim, you provide positive counter-claims about the topic.”
10.Which can be used as an example of “bypassing”?
A.GMOs are safe to eat because scientists say so.
B.GMOs can produce higher output with less costs.
C.5G kills birds, but its benefits outweigh the risks.
D.5G doesn't kill birds, for they have no connection.
11.What do we know about the “bypassing” tool according to the text?
A.It is the most reliable way.
B.It may help people accept policies.
C.It appears frequently in debates.
D.It is effective in belief correction.
根据最后一段中“When it comes to policy decisions and willingness to accept a certain technology or medicine, bypassing seems like a valuable tool to add to your kit.”
12.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Bypassing: A Better Way to Shift Attitudes?
B.Changing One's Mind: Bypass Indirectly!
C.Challenging Misinformation: Bypass It!
D.Negating the Claim: Does It Work?
故选A。
答案 A
Ⅱ.七选五
(2025·江苏南京、盐城一模)Growing up,I found the word Saturday almost equaled cleaning in my family. As soon as any child was able to use a dust cloth,he or she was assigned a chore (家务活).__13__ Exceptions were made of course, but the older we grew, the more my parents expected us to balance these responsibilities.
Chores were part of my family's way of functioning. We complained and tried to avoid them, but we never questioned why we did them.As a family,we all had roles in keeping the home running smoothly, and the responsibility grew with age.__14__
When I was a kid,I knew when doing chores I was helping my family. It wasn't until I grew into adulthood that I realized that chores are more than a list of tasks.__15__ Being assigned chores communicates that each family member is needed and that their action or non-action affects every single other person living under the same roof.
Handling daily household chores is never easy, but doing them out of love for my family makes it manageable.__16__I enjoy jumping in to help whenever my parents need a hand. While working together,we have the chance to have meaningful conversations, share experiences, and build memories.
__17__ Household chores mean learning how to manage responsibility and understand kids' role, not to mention practicing discipline, time management, and selflessness. All these consequences would seem to tip the scales (天平) in favor of chores.
A.It made sense to us,as much as we disliked it.
B.They create a sense of belonging within a family.
C.Household chores were a source of great stress for us.
D.Actually, doing chores alongside my family can make them a joy.
E.We had to complete our assigned chore before school assignments.
F.Allowing children to share burdens helps them recognize their strengths.
G.It also comes as no surprise that chores are important for personal growth.
答案 A
B项“它们在家庭中创造了一种归属感”承上启下,选项中的They指代上文的chores,选项中的“a sense of belonging”与空后的“each family member is needed”相呼应。
答案 B
