On the summit of a mountain called Shishapangma, an 18-year-old Sherpa (夏尔巴人) climber called Nima recorded a selfie video. With this climb, he became the youngest person ever to top all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks.
Once he descended, Nima shared the video online under the tag “Sherpapower”, spreading the message that his people were athletes in their own right, not just guides of foreign climbers. For nearly 120 years, Sherpas have served as porters and guides for foreign climbers seeking glory on the world’s highest peaks, which makes them so closely linked to this work that many Westerners mistake the word “Sherpa” for a profession, not an ethnicity.
During his first mountain climbing, an avalanche (雪崩) claimed the lives of his best friend, Lama, and his client on their summit push. He saw how Sherpas sacrificed their own safety and even lives to help others summit. It was at that moment that he began to use the word “sherpapower” with new purpose of being a voice for his community.
To achieve this, Nima has to be a professional climber sponsored by brands like the Red Bull. The brands seldom sponsor mountaineers who follow trade routes on fixed ropes. His 14-peaks record hasn’t been enough to earn sponsorships. But for him, sponsorships mean dignity instead of money. He had to explore new routes or peaks without bottled oxygen or fixed ropes. Therefore, two months after setting his record, Nima was preparing for his next project. Alongside famed Italian climber Moro, he was attempting a winter climbing of 8,163-meter Manaslu, which was eventually cancelled due to extreme conditions. Nima immediately planned another attempt on Manaslu for next winter with his partner.
It remains to be seen if Nima will be the breakthrough athlete he wants to be. After all, he’s only 18.
24. What is the common understanding of “Sherpa” to Westerners?
A. An occupation. B. An identification. C. A resolution. D. A proposal.
25. What does the underlined word “claimed” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Spared. B. Guarded. C. Took. D. Sustained.
26. Why did Nima seek a different climbing route?
A. To compete with top-zclass athletes. B. To qualify as a professional climber.
C. To build his fortune in outdoor industry. D. To get recognised as an experienced guide.
27. Which of the following best describes Nima?
A. Determined and ethnically conscious. B. Carefree and strong-willed.
C. Straightforward and well-mannered. D. Modest and warm-hearted.
C
“Ghost gear” refers to lost or abandoned fishing nets, a highly destructive pollutant in oceans. Each year, approximately 1 million tons of such gear are discarded at sea, accounting for up to 86% of large marine floating plastics. Unlike visible plastic waste like bottles, it sinks into the deep ocean, continuously trapping sea animals, producing microplastics and endangering navigation.
To address this issue, organizations like Conservation International have launched programs worldwide. A distinctive project in Mexico focuses on training female divers known as sirenas to clear away ghost gear and help coastal communities gain a direct understanding of the pollution’s harm.
These female divers rely on commercial fishing as their primary income source but volunteer for the cleanup. After professional training and certification, they start searching for and removing dangerous ghost gear. The operation tests their physical limits and patience to the fullest. As many as 117 sailors once invested over 40 hours in clearing a massive 300-foot-long fishing net. Their diving experience has completely transformed their perception of the ocean. By engaging with communities and fishing cooperatives, they have gradually gained recognition, carving out a space for women in marine conservation within the male-dominated fishing industry.
Undoubtedly, prevention deserves the equal priority to cleanup. The Global Ghost Gear Initiative has developed a reporting system for fishers to notify lost gear for timely recovery and provided them with region-specific recommendations, such as avoiding operations in severe weather and storing gear properly.
In selected regions, fishing nets bear unique identifiers, enabling the precise tracking of their ownership by individuals or commercial fisheries post-recovery and instantly locking down whoever is at fault. “Once your fishing gear is attached to distinct identifiers, it facilitates a heightened sense of individual accountability, which in turn generates a concrete effect on your behavioral approach to fishing practices,” notes Jimenez, a marine biologist.
The governance of ghost gear demands cooperation among fishers, researchers and policymakers. By changing mindsets and taking effective measures, this campaign against ocean “ghosts” is advancing steadily, injecting hope for the sustainable future of marine ecosystems and coastal communities.
28. How does ghost gear differ from other marine plastics?
A. It’s harder to detect. B. It’s distributed more extensively.
C. It takes longer to break down. D. It floats evenly in shallower water.
29. Why does the author mention the 300-foot-long net removal example?
A. To showcase training effect. B. To emphasize potential net risks.
C. To highlight work efficiency. D. To demonstrate cleanup challenges.
30. What can we infer from Jimenez’s words?
A. Labels avoid fishing net loss. B. Technology reshapes productivity.
C. Markings boost responsibility. D. Identity validation guarantees security.
31. What can be the best title of the text?
A. Deep-sea Ghost Gear: Silent Killers.
B. Sirenas: Dedicated Ocean Guardians.
C. Multi-dimensional Actions: Tackling Marine Ghosts.
D. For Marine Conservation: Mind Your Fishing Gear.

Scientists at Finland’s Aalto University have found that using artificial intelligence (AI) almost removes and reverses (逆转) the Dunning-Kruger effect, a phenomenon that people who aren’t very good at a given task are overconfident, while people with high ability tend to underestimate their skills. Their research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone (regardless of their skill level) tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing so the most.
In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT. Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately.
The reasons behind the findings are varied. Because AI users were usually satisfied with their answer after only one question or prompt (提示), accepting the answer without further checking or confirmation, they can be said to have engaged in what Robin Welsch, an Aalto University computer scientist, calls “cognitive offloading” — exploring the question with reduced reflection, and approaching it in a more “shallow” way.
Such less engagement in our own reasoning means we bypass the usual feedback process of critical thinking, which reduces our ability to assess our performance accurately. Even more revealing was the fact that we all overestimate our abilities when using AI, regardless of our intelligence, with the gap between high-and low-skill users reducing. The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs) help everyone perform better to some degree. Meanwhile, the Aalto team warned of several potential impacts as AI becomes more widespread.
Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer. Without reflecting on results, error checking or deeper reasoning, we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the study. What’s more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we’ll all continue to overestimate our abilities while using AI, with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more — leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills.
32. What did Aalto University researchers discover about AI chatbot use?
A. Low-ability users became less confident.
B. It strengthened the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
C. Users generally over-trusted the chatbot’s answers.
D. Only beginners often thought highly of their abilities.
33. Which aspect of the research is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The purpose. B. The process. C. The subjects. D. The findings.
34. Why do the users often overestimate their abilities?
A. LLMs’ aid improves users’ task performance.
B. Users often skip the process of critical thinking.
C. AI tools contribute to users’ metacognitive accuracy.
D. The gap between high-and low-skill AI users is bridged.
35. What will be probably talked about in the following paragraph?
A. Regulations for narrowing AI users’ skill gap.
B. Guidelines for sourcing information reliably.
C. Methods for preventing users’ cognitive decline.
D. Tips for improving the subjects’ performance.

Social media has become an inescapable part of modern life, raising concerns across generations. ____36____ When we scroll through screens, our brains become hooked on the notifications, whose unpredictable nature makes them more addictive.
This addiction taps into a fundamental human need. We are social beings, hard-wired (固有的) to desire recognition. ____37____ The constant feedback loop (循环) can turn social approval into a measurable, and often anxious, pursuit.
Given the profound impact of social media, the question of regulation arises. With substances like alcohol, governments impose age limits due to their proven harm to developing minds. ____38____ Research indicates that it has a distinct influence on young people’s developing brains — even contributing to reduced grey matter.
____39____ Overcoming addiction should become a choice rather than forced inaction. If social media is unavoidable, is it not a wiser option to equip young people to navigate its challenges rather than shelter them entirely?
As developmental psychology suggests, adolescents thrive when allowed to learn from mistakes in a supportive setting. Merely restricting access may fuel curiosity and leave them ill-prepared for digital life. Instead, we would engage with their voices as well as instruct them. ____40____
A. Its addictive design is the core issue.
B. But a total ban on minors sparks heated debate.
C. The same logic should apply to social media regulation.
D. If so, we are more likely to attain the outcome we all desire.
E. Many teenagers spend over five hours daily on various social platforms.
F. Social media satisfies this by quantifying worth through likes and shares.
G. However, the regulation of social media cannot be completely equal to that of alcohol.

The Garden Project That Bonded Us
When Dad announced we would transform the overgrown backyard into a vegetable garden, I rolled my eyes while Tom, my 12-year-old little brother, cheered. “It's a waste of time," I complained, scrolling through my phone.“We could just buy vegetables from the supermarket." Tom, however, had always dreamed of growing his own tomatoes -- especially since Mom's birthday was only three months away, and he'd been talking about picking fresh tomatoes to make her favorite pasta sauce. Dad smiled, handing us a list, “Lily, you'll handle planning the layout (布局) and buying seedlings (幼苗). Tom, you're in charge of clearing the weeds and digging the soil. Teamwork makes the dream work!" He paused, glancing at the calendar on the wall where Mom's birthday was circled in red. “Three months is quite enough for those potato seedlings to bear fruit - perfect timing if we get started now.
The first weekend, conflict erupted. I spent hours researching online but forgot to buy the seedlings, comforting myself “too busy with homework." Tom was pulling weeds for hours sweating profusely(大汗淋漓). Several days later, he marched into the garden expecting to find rows of seedlings, only to be met with empty yard, and then exploded with anger, shouting “You didn't even do your basic job! I'm doing all the hard work while you're sitting on the couch! Look! My gloves are worn out!" I fired back, “Digging is easy! My part requires intelligence, not just brute force(蛮力)!" We refused to speak to each other, leaving the half-cleared yard in chaos. Dad didn't intervene immediately, instead, he left a note on the kitchen table, “Labor teaches us responsibility, and teamwork means supporting each other, not blaming.
That night, I couldn't sleep, remembering how Tom had helped me fix my bike last year even though he'd had a fever. Meanwhile, Tom lay in his room staring at the layout paper I threw to him earlier that week, recalling the way I'd lingered over the layout drawings many times, saying, “Mom will definitely love it.”
The next morning, I woke up at dawn, grabbed my wallet and raced to the store. I came back with not just tomato seedlings but also a new pair of gardening gloves for Tom.
Tom was already in the backyard when I arrived. __________________________________________

C 12. C 13. C
W: Thank you for inviting me to view this special exhibition. It was my pleasure to come to this gallery.
M: That’s all right. The artworks were painted by a local artist. He spent decades painting the beauty of this unique town, along with scenes from his life.
W: May I ask a question? I heard that the artist died in 1922 without ever selling a single painting. Is that true?
M: Yes, indeed. The artist preferred to be alone. He lived by himself, working in secret, and painted almost all his life. His friends and family only discovered his talent after he died at the age of 92. When they cleared his house, they found more than 300 paintings. And no one had ever seen these paintings.
W: How surprised and delighted he would be to know that his artworks are now being shown like this!
M: Yes. One thing I particularly love is that these paintings tell me what his life was like from when he was young until his death.
B 15. B 16. C 17. B 【原文】W: Hey Liam. Why do you look so down? What happened?
M: It was my driving test today. Did you forget? W: Oh no. You failed?
M: Yep, I failed. That is my fourth fail now. W: What went wrong?
M: I think it’s because I was nervous. I passed all my practice exams with my instructor with high scores. But then with a stranger, I failed. W: I have an idea.
M: What is it? W: Ask your instructor to go with you to the exam. You are allowed to have them in the back of the car.
M: Really? W: Yes. My cousin did that to help her pass. It took her seven times!
M: I shall talk to my instructor about it. W: How many lessons have you had?
M: Feels like a million. But probably around 50. All my salary from working at McDonald’s disappears because of driving tests.
W: It will be worth it in the end. It took me forever to pass my English and math exams. You must keep going. It’s the same when you are applying for jobs. You might be turned down 10 times, but on the 11th try, the job is yours.
A 19. C 20. B
Hello, and welcome to Sounds of the Airwaves. First released in 1970, the last song we played was Let It Be by the Beatles. Written by English musician Paul McCartney, the song was inspired by a dream he had of his mother, who sadly died when he was just fourteen. In the dream, she tried to make Paul feel better by saying everything would be okay, and just “let it be”. He woke up, wrote the song, and it went to number one in countries all over the world!
Sit back, relax and listen with me to some of the best songs the world has ever produced. Over the next hour, we’ve got 1987’s Bad by Michael Jackson, Universe by the boy band Exo, and many more.
But before all that, coming up after the break, we have something totally different... From the 2019 album Lover, which sold over a million copies in China, Cruel Summer is a song about pain and upset. Sung by Taylor Swift, the popular American singer, it’s one to make you think!
Stay tuned — we’ll be back after the advertisements!

根据第二段中“For nearly 120 years, Sherpas have served as porters and guides for foreign climbers seeking glory on the world’s highest peaks, which makes them so closely linked to this work that many Westerners mistake the word “Sherpa” for a profession, not an ethnicity. (近120年来,夏尔巴人一直担任着外国登山者在世界最高峰上寻求荣耀时的搬运工和向导。由于他们与这项工作的紧密联系,许多西方人将“夏尔巴人”这个词误认为是一种职业,而非一个族群。)”可知,西方人通常将“夏尔巴人”理解为一种职业。故选A项。
根据画线词的下文“He saw how Sherpas sacrificed their own safety and even lives to help others summit. (他亲眼目睹了夏尔巴人为了帮助他人成功登顶而不惜牺牲自身安全甚至生命的行为)”以及前面的主语“an avalanche (雪崩) (一场雪崩)”可知此处指雪崩夺走了两人的生命,画线词意为“夺走(生命)”,与Took意思接近选C
【26题】细节理解题。根据第四段中“To achieve this, Nima has to be a professional climber sponsored by brands like the Red Bull. The brands seldom sponsor mountaineers who follow trade routes on fixed ropes. (为了实现这一目标,Nima必须成为一名由诸如红牛等品牌赞助的职业登山者。而这些品牌通常不会赞助那些沿着固定绳索沿固定路线攀登的登山者。)”和“He had to explore new routes or peaks without bottled oxygen or fixed ropes. (他不得不在没有氧气瓶和固定绳索的情况下,探索新的路线或攀登新的山峰。)”可知,Nima寻求不同登山路线是为了获得职业登山者资格。选B项。
27题】推理判断题。根据第四段中“Therefore, two months after setting his record, Nima was preparing for his next project. Alongside famed Italian climber Moro, he was attempting a winter climbing of 8,163-meter Manaslu, which was eventually cancelled due to extreme conditions. Nima immediately planned another attempt on Manaslu for next winter with his partner. (因此,在创下纪录两个月后,Nima开始筹备他的下一个项目。他与著名的意大利登山者Moro一起,尝试在冬季攀登海拔8163米的马纳斯鲁峰,但由于极端天气条件,这次尝试最终被取消。Nima随即与他的搭档计划在来年冬季再次尝试攀登马纳斯鲁峰。)”可知,Nima打破纪录后立即计划新挑战,在计划受阻时立即做出调整,准备继续尝试,表明他坚定地追求自己的目标。根据第二段中“Once he descended, Nima shared the video online under the tag (标签) “Sherpapower”, spreading the message that his people were athletes in their own right, not just guides of foreign climbers. (Nima下来后,便将这段视频发布到了网上,并附上了“Sherpapower”这一标签,以此传达这样一个信息:他的族人本身就是优秀的运动员,而不仅仅是为外国登山者提供向导服务的人。)”和第三段中“It was at that moment that he began to use the word “sherpapower” with new purpose of being a voice for his community. (就在那一刻,他开始有意地使用“Sherpapower”这个词,以此来代表自己的社群发声。)”可知,Nima强调夏尔巴人的运动员身份,并为族群发声,表明他具有民族意识。故选A项。
A 29. D 30. C 31.
根据第一段“Unlike visible plastic waste like bottles, it sinks into the deep ocean, continuously trapping sea animals, producing microplastics and endangering navigation. (与瓶子等可见的塑料垃圾不同,它会沉入深海,不断困住海洋动物,产生微塑料,危及航行)”可知,幽灵渔具和其他海洋塑料不同,它沉入深海、更难被检测到。故选A项。
根据第三段“The operation tests their physical limits and patience to the fullest. As many as 117 sailors once invested over 40 hours in clearing a massive 300-foot-long fishing net. (这项行动最大限度地考验了她们的体力和耐心。多达117名水手曾投入超过40小时清理一条长达300英尺的巨大渔网)”可知,作者提到清理300英尺长的渔网是为了展示清理工作的挑战性。故选D项。
【30题详解】推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Once your fishing gear is attached to distinct identifiers, it facilitates a heightened sense of individual accountability, which in turn generates a concrete effect on your behavioral approach to fishing practices, (一旦你的渔具贴上了独特的标识,就会增强个人的责任感,进而对你的捕鱼行为产生具体的影响)”可知,从Jimenez的话中我们可以推断出标记能增强责任感。
根据第一段““Ghost gear” refers to lost or abandoned fishing nets, a highly destructive pollutant in oceans.(“幽灵渔具”是指丢失或遗弃的渔网,这是海洋中一种极具破坏性的污染物)”、最后一段“The governance of ghost gear demands cooperation among fishers, researchers and policymakers.(幽灵渔具的治理需要渔民、研究人员和政策制定者之间的合作)”以及文章内容可知,本文既介绍幽灵渔具的危害,又介绍多国组织、人员从清理、预防、监管多方面采取措施,所以“多维行动:对抗海洋幽灵”适合作为文章标题。
C 33. B 34. A 35. C
根据第一段“Their research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone (regardless of their skill level) tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing so the most.(他们的研究表明,当使用普通聊天机器人解决问题时,每个人(无论技能水平如何)都倾向于过度相信答案的质量,经验最丰富的人工智能用户表现得最为明显)”可知,阿尔托大学的研究人员发现使用人工智能聊天机器人时,用户普遍过度信任聊天机器人的答案。
根据第二段“In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT. Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately.(在这项研究中,科学家给500名受试者布置了逻辑推理任务,其中一半人被允许使用ChatGPT。随后,两组受试者都接受了关于他们的人工智能素养以及他们认为自己表现如何的测试,并承诺如果他们能准确评估自己的表现,将给予额外奖励)”可知,该段主要介绍了研究的过程,包括给受试者布置任务、分组、后续测试等。故选B项。
【34题详解】细节理解题。根据第四段“The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs) help everyone perform better to some degree.(该研究将此归因于大型语言模型(LLMs)在某种程度上帮助每个人都表现得更好)”可知,用户经常高估自己的能力是因为大型语言模型的帮助提高了用户在任务中的表现。故选A项。
根据最后一段“Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer. Without reflecting on results, error checking or deeper reasoning, we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the study. What’s more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we’ll all continue to overestimate our abilities while using AI, with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more — leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills.(首先,整体的元认知准确性可能会受到影响。
A 37. F 38. C 39. B 40. D

【40题详解】 根据前文“As developmental psychology suggests, adolescents thrive when allowed to learn from mistakes in a supportive setting. Merely restricting access may fuel curiosity and leave them ill-prepared for digital life. Instead, we would engage with their voices as well as instruct them.(发展心理学表明,当青少年被允许在支持性的环境中从错误中学习时,他们会茁壮成长。仅仅限制访问可能会激发他们的好奇心,并让他们对数字生活准备不足。相反,我们应该倾听他们的声音,并指导他们)”可知,本空应该与倾听青少年的声音并指导他们的结果有关,选项D“如果是这样,我们更有可能达到我们所有人都希望的结果”符合语境,承接上文。故选D。

67.【答案】Tom was already in the backyard when I arrived. He paused when he saw me, his hands still muddy(独立主格), his expression guarded(无灵主语句). I took a deep breath, walked toward him, and silently handed him the seedlings and the new gloves. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then I admitted, in a low voice, that I had let him down and shouldn’t have made excuses. Tom looked at the gloves, then at the seedlings, and finally nodded. Without another word, he made space for me beside him. As we worked, I followed his rhythm, helping steady the plants(现在分词短语做伴随动工作) while he covered the roots with soil. The tension slowly eased(无灵主语句), replaced by quiet cooperation(现在分词短语做结果状语). By the time the sun climbed higher, neat rows of seedlings stood in the yard(无灵主语句), and something broken between us had been gently mended.
Finally, the big day came—Mom’s birthday. Dad led her into the backyard with a smile, and she stopped in surprise. Where there had once been chaos now stood a small but thriving garden(无灵主语句), green and full of promise(adj做补语). Tom proudly picked the ripest tomatoes, while I explained the layout I had carefully planned. Mom’s eyes filled with tears as she hugged us both, saying(现在分词短语做伴随动作)it was the best gift she could have imagined. Standing there(现在分词短语做伴随动作), watching her smile(现在分词短语做伴随动作), I realized the garden was more than vegetables—it was proof that responsibility and teamwork could turn conflict into something meaningful.

On the summit of a mountain called Shishapangma,anl8-year-old Sherpa(夏尔巴人)climber called
Nima recorded a selfie video. With this climb,he became the youngest person ever to top all 14 of the
world's 8,000-meter peaks.
Once he descended,Nima shared the video online under the tag "Sherpapower",spreading the
message that his people were athletes in their own right, not just guides of foreign climbers. For nearly 120
years,Sherpas have served as porters and guides for foreign climbers seeking glory on the world's highest
peaks, which makes them so closely linked to this work that many Westerners mistake the word "Sherpa'
for a profession,not an ethnicity.
During his first mountain climbing,an avalanche (claimed the lives of his best friend,Lama, and
his client on their summit push.He saw how Sherpas sacrificed their own safety and even lives to help
others summit. It was at that moment that he began to use the word"sherpapower"with new purpose of
being a voice for his community.
To achieve this,Nima has to be a professional climber sponsored by brands like the Red Bull. The
brands seldom sponsor mountaineers who follow trade routes on fixed ropes. His 14-peaks record hasn't
been enough to earn sponsorships. But for him, sponsorships mean dignity instead of money. He had to
explore new routes or peaks without bottled oxygen or fixed ropes. Therefore, two months after setting his
record,Nima was preparing for his next project.Alongside famed Italian climber Moro,he was attempting
a winter climbing of 8,163-meter Manaslu, which was eventually cancelled due to extreme conditions.
Nima immediately planned another attempt on Manaslu for next winter with his partner.
It remains to be seen if Nima will be the breakthrough athlete he wants to be.After all,he's only 18.
24.What is the common understanding of"Sherpa"to Westerners?
A.An occupation.B.An identification.
C.A resolution.
D.A proposal.
25.What does the underlined wordclaimed"mean in paragraph 3?
A.Spared.
B.Guarded.
C.Took.
D.Sustained.
26.Why did Nima seek a different climbing route?
A.To compete with top-zclass athletes
B.To qualify as a professional climber
C.To build his fortune in outdoor industry.
D.To get recognised as an experienced guide.
27.Which of the following best describes Nima?
A.Determined and ethnically conscious.
B.Carefree and strong-willed.
C.Straightforward and well-mannered.
D.Modest and warm-hearted.
"Ghost gear"refers to lost or abandoned fishing nets,a highly destructive pollutant in oceans. Each
year, approximately 1 million tons of such gear are discarded at sea, accounting for up to 86%of large
marine floating plastics.Unlike visible plastic waste like bottles,it sinks into the deep ocean, continuously
trapping sea animals, producing microplastics and endangering navigation.

To address this issue, organizations like Conservation International have launched programs
worldwide.A distinctive project in Mexico focuses on training female divers known as sirenas to clear
away ghost gear and help coastal communities gain a direct understanding of the pollution's harm.
These female divers rely on commercial fishing as their primary income source but volunteer for the
cleanup. After professional training and certification, they start searching for and removing dangerous ghost
gear. The operation tests their physical limits and patience to the fullest. As many as 117 sailors once
invested over 40 hours in clearing a massive 300-foot-long fishing net.Their diving experience has
completely transformed their perception of the ocean.By engaging with communities and fishing
cooperatives, they have gradually gained recognition, carving out a space for women in marine
conservation within the male-dominated fishing industry.
Undoubtedly, prevention deserves the equal priority to cleanup. The Global Ghost Gear Initiative has
developed a reporting system for fishers to notify lost gear for timely recovery and provided them with
region-specific recommendations, such as avoiding operations in severe weather and storing gear properly.
In selected regions, fishing nets bear unique identifiers, enabling the precise tracking of their
ownership by individuals or commercial fisheries post-recovery and instantly locking down whoever is at
fault."Once your fishing gear is attached to distinct identifiers,it facilitates a heightened sense of
individual accountability, which in turn generates a concrete effect on your behavioral approach to fishing
practices,"notes Jimenez,a marine biologist.
The governance of ghost gear demands cooperation among fishers, researchers and policymakers.By
changing mindsets and taking effective measures, this campaign against ocean"ghosts"'is advancing
steadily, injecting hope for the sustainable future of marine ecosystems and coastal communities.
28.How does ghost gear differ from other marine plastics?
A.It's harder to detect
B.It's distributed more extensively.
C.It takes longer to break down.
D.It floats evenly in shallower water.
29.Why does the author mention the 300-foot-long net removal example?
A.To showcase training effect.
B.To emphasize potential net risks
C.To highlight work efficiency.
D.To demonstrate cleanup challenges.
30.What can we infer from Jimenez's words?
A.Labels avoid fishing net loss.
B.Technology reshapes productivity
C.Markings boost responsibility
D.Identity validation guarantees security.
31.What can be the best title of the text?
A.Deep-sea Ghost Gear:Silent Killers.

Scientists at Finland's Aalto University have found that using artificial intelligence (AD)almost
removes and reverses the Dunning-Kruger effect,a phenomenon that people who aren't very good at
a given task are overconfident, while people with high ability tend to underestimate their skills.Their
research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone (regardless of their skill
level)tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing
so the most.
In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT.
Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and
promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately.
4
The reasons behind the findings are varied.Because AI users were usually satisfied with their answer
after only one question or prompt ()accepting the answer without further checking or confirmation,
they can be said to have engaged in what Robin Welsch,an Aalto University computer scientist, calls
"cognitive offloading"-exploring the question with reduced reflection, and approaching it in a more
“shallow'way.
Such less engagement in our own reasoning means we bypass the usual feedback process of critical
thinking, which reduces our ability to assess our performance accurately.Even more revealing was the fact
that we all overestimate our abilities when using AI,regardless of our intelligence, with the gap between
high-and low-skill users reducing. The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs)help
everyone perform better to some degree.Meanwhile, the Aalto team warned of several potential impacts as
AI becomes more widespread.
Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer.Without reflecting on results, error checking or
deeper reasoning,we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the
study. What's more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we'll all continue to
overestimate our abilities while using Al,with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more-
leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills.
32.What did Aalto University researchers discover about AI chatbot use?
A.Low-ability users became less confident.
B.It strengthened the Dunning-Kruger Effect
C.Users generally over-trusted the chatbot's answers.
D.Only beginners often thought highly of their abilities.
33.Which aspect of the research is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The purpose.
B.The process.
C.The subjects.
D.The findings.
34.Why do the users often overestimate their abilities?
A.LLMs'aid improves users'task performance.
B.Users often skip the process of critical thinking.
C.AI tools contribute to users'metacognitive accuracy.
D.The gap between high-and low-skill AI users is bridged.
35.What will be probably talked about in the following paragraph?
A.Regulations for narrowing AI users'skill gap.
B.Guidelines for sourcing information reliably.
C.Methods for preventing users'cognitive decline.
D.Tips for improving the subjects'performance.

Social media has become an inescapable part of modern life, raising concerns across generations.
36 When we scroll through screens, our brains become hooked on the notifications, whose
unpredictable nature makes them more addictive.
This addiction taps into a fundamental human need.We are social beings,hard-wired to
desire recognition.37 The constant feedback loop (can turn social approval into a
measurable,and often anxious,pursuit.
Given the profound impact of social media, the question of regulation arises. With substances like
alcohol, governments impose age limits due to their proven harm to developing minds.38
Research indicates that it has a distinct influence on young people's developing brains-even contributing
to reduced grey matter.

Overcoming addiction should become a choice rather than forced inaction. If social
media is unavoidable,is it not a wiser option to equip young people to navigate its challenges rather than
shelter them entirely?
As developmental psychology suggests, adolescents thrive when allowed to learn from mistakes in a
supportive setting.Merely restricting access may fuel curiosity and leave them ill-prepared for digital life.
Instead,we would engage with their voices as well as instruct them
40
A.Its addictive design is the core issue.
B.But a total ban on minors sparks heated debate.
C.The same logic should apply to social media regulation
D.If so,we are more likely to attain the outcome we all desire
E.Many teenagers spend over five hours daily on various social platforms.
F.Social media satisfies this by quantifying worth through likes and shares
G.However, the regulation of social media cannot be completely equal to that of alcohol.

clearing the weeds and digging the soil.Teamwork makes the dream work!"He paused, glancing at the
calendar on the wall where Mom's birthday was circled in red.Three months is quite enough for those
potato seedlings to bear fruit-perfect timing if we get started now.
The first weekend, conflict erupted.I spent hours researching online but forgot to buy the seedlings,
comforting myself"too busy with homework."Tom was pulling weeds for hours sweating profusely(
)Several days later,he marched into the garden expecting to find rows of seedlings, only to be met
with empty yard, and then exploded with anger, shouting"You didn't even do your basic job!I'm doing all
the hard work while you're sitting on the couch!Look! My gloves are worn out!"I fired back,"Digging is
easy!My part requires intelligence, not just brute force()!"We refused to speak to each other, leaving
the half-cleared yard in chaos.Dad didn't intervene immediately, instead,he left a note on the kitchen table,
"Labor teaches us responsibility, and teamwork means supporting each other, not blaming.
That night,I couldn't sleep, remembering how Tom had helped me fix my bike last year even though
he'd had a fever.Meanwhile,Tom lay in his room staring at the layout paper I threw to him earlier that
week, recalling the way I'd lingered over the lay out drawings many times, saying,"Mom will definitely
love it.”
The next morning,I woke up at dawn, grabbed my wallet and raced to the store.I came back with not
just tomato seedlings but also a new pair of gardening gloves for Tom.
Tom was already in the backyard when I arrived.
