A food festival
An annual food festival to promote food culture was held last weekend in our school. Before the festival, every one of us launched into setting up tents and posting our menus.
There's nothing better than the senses we experienced at a food festival — the rows of food trucks and tents as far as the eye could see, the rhythmic sound we heard from cooking, the smells of dozens of delicious food being prepared around us and of course the taste of everything we could stomach. However, what impressed us most was in fact the cultures behind the food vividly introduced by the cooks. Also, wonderful background music and colorful flags added to the pleasure of the occasion.
It was everyone's joint efforts that made the activity such a big success and it's the cultures behind the food that made the festival special. Every one of us sang high praise for the event.

“Flowers may not be as practical as food.” I said. “Food will feed her for the day, but flowers will delight her for days or longer.” one of them insisted. Looking at the bunches of blooming flowers neatly arranged there, sweet scent filling the air, I changed my mind. With my consent, the kids rushed forward, chose a bunch of beautiful purple flowers, and carefully placed it into the cart. Soon we jumped into the car and drove toward Mrs. Wilson’s home. The little ones talked and giggled on the way, unable to hold back their excitement.
With a food box and a bunch of flowers, we finally arrived at Mrs. Wilson’s home. Mrs. Wilson, a little woman with a weary face, came to the door to welcome us. With great hospitality, she led us into her house. Her mouth was widened with great joy as we carried the food box in. When one kid sent her the sweet flowers, she simply couldn’t conceal her excitement, tears glittering in her eyes. Holding the flowers to her nose, she seemed to regain her youth and vigor. At that moment, the kids had found the power they possessed to make another life better. Sometimes a bunch of flowers could nourish another soul on a dark November day.

You had your hand up. Yes, thank you. I'm john. I live on oak avenue, which borders the lot. My main concern is the loss of Green space. The plan calls for the removal of twelve mature oak trees that provide crucial shape and habitat for birds. Surely in this day in age, we can find a more environmentally sensitive solution than simply paving over a growth of healthy trees. I understand your concern, mr. davies. The need for additional parking is real, but perhaps we can explore a modify design. What if we used a premium paving system that allows water to reach the roots of the remaining trees? We might not be able to save all twelve, but we could potentially integrate the lot around the most significant ones. Preserving they cannot be cover. That would be a significant improvement. For several days I (Jane Eyre) saw little of Mr Rochester. In the morning he seemed much occupied with business, and in the afternoon gentlemen from the neighbourhood called and sometimes stayed to dine with him. When his foot was well enough, he rode out a great deal.
During this time, all my knowledge of him was limited to occasional meetings about the house, when he would sometimes pass me coldly, and sometimes bow and smile. His changes of manner did not offend me, because I saw that I had nothing to do with the cause of them.
One evening, several days later, I was invited to talk to Mr Rochester after dinner. He was sitting in his armchair, and looked not quite so severe, and much less gloomy. There was a smile on his lips, and his eyes were bright, probably with wine. As I was looking at him, he suddenly turned, and asked me, “Do you think I’m handsome, Miss Eyre?”
The answer somehow slipped from my tongue before I realised it: “No, sir.”
“Ah, you really are unusual! You are a quiet, serious little person, but you can be almost rude.”
“Sir, I’m sorry. I should have said that beauty doesn’t matter, or something like that.”
“No, you shouldn’t! I see, you criticise my appearance, and then you stab (刺) me in the back! You have honesty and feeling. There are not many girls like you. But perhaps I go too fast. Perhaps you have awful faults to counterbalance (抵消) your few good points.”
I thought to myself that he might have too. He seemed to read my mind, and said quickly, “Yes, you’re right. I have plenty of faults. I went the wrong way when I was twenty-one, and have never found the right path again. I might have been very different. I might have been as good as you, and perhaps wiser. I am not a bad man, take my word for it, but I have done wrong. It wasn’t my character, but circumstances which were to blame. Why do I tell you all this? Because you’re the sort of person people tell their problems and secrets to, because you’re sympathetic and give them hope.”
It seemed he had quite a lot to talk to me. He didn’t seem to like to finish the talk quickly, as was the case for the first time.
“Don’t be afraid of me, Miss Eyre.” He continued. “You don’t relax or laugh very much, perhaps because of the effect Lowood School has had on you. But in time you will be more natural with me, and laugh, and speak freely. You’re like a bird in a cage. When you get out of the cage, you’ll fly very high. Good night.”
21.What’s not Miss Eyre’s impression of Mr Rochester in the beginning?
A.Busy. B.Sociable. C.Friendly. D.Changeable.
22.From what Mr Rochester told Miss Eyre, we can conclude that he wanted to .
A.tell her all his troubles B.tell her his life experience
C.change her opinion of him D.change his circumstances
23.At the end of the passage, Mr Rochester sounded .
A.rude B.cold C.friendly D.encouraging

Climate change could cause “irreversible (不可逆的) damage” to the world’s most precious ancient monuments (古迹) and other cultural sites, experts warned on Saturday as they pushed for the United Nations (UN) protection for major global sites.
Academics gathered in Athens for a meeting on the threats to world heritage calling for tools to predict, measure and counter the effects of climate change. They are campaigning to have the issue included on the agenda (议程) at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York.
Scientists have recently expressed concern regarding the effects of climate change on ancient Greek monuments, including those on the Acropolis in Greece. The extreme weather phenomena seen in recent years,as well as air pollution and acid rain, have created problems in the walls and temples of the Acropolis.
Dimitrios Pandermalis, director of the city’s Acropolis Museum, said that while environmental damage has always been a challenge for monuments, these threats are getting worse.
The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned in October that warming was on track towards a 3 ℃ or 4 ℃ rise, and that avoiding global chaos would require a major change. “Climate change is not only a threat to our future, but also to our heritage, both natural and cultural,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The Athens meeting called for improved tools to help evaluate the threat from climate change and mitigate risks, like threat maps based on climatic projections.
The meeting stressed the challenges in preserving underwater heritage such as shipwrecks. The Head of the Research Centre for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology at the Academy of Athens warned that “with man-made global warming everything will become more acid in the atmosphere as well as in the seas,” threatening undersea monuments.
The meeting was jointly hosted by the Greek government, the UN and the UN’s cultural agency UNESCO.
24.Why did experts have a meeting in Athens?
A.To study traditional architecture.
B.To name the most precious world heritage.
C.To make efforts to protect world heritage.
D.To celebrate the discovery of a monument.
25.What can be learned about the Acropolis?
A.It is at risk of being damaged. B.It isn’t valued by the government.
C.It has been severely ruined by humans. D.It isn’t open to the public for protection.
26.What does the underlined word “mitigate” in Paragraph 6 mean?
A.Take. B.Create. C.Involve. D.Reduce.
27.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Pushing for sea protection in Greece
B.Environmental damage is unavoidable
C.Climate change is expected to bring extreme weather
D.Raising alarms over climate change’s threat to cultural sites

On October 18, 2025, the world lost a great physicist when Yang Zhenning passed away in Beijing at the age of 103. Tsinghua University, where he had worked for many years, issued an obituary calling him “one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century” and emphasizing his outstanding contributions to modern physics.
Yang Zhenning’s academic career was filled with groundbreaking achievements. In 1954, he and his collaborator Robert Mills put forward the Yang-Mills Gauge Field Theory. This theory is so important that it is compared with Einstein’s general theory of relativity and Maxwell’s equations, and it laid the foundation for the later Standard Model of particle physics. Another famous contribution was his work on parity non-conservation in weak interactions, which he developed with Li Zhengdao. This revolutionary idea changed people’s understanding of symmetry in physics and earned them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957.
Beyond his scientific work, Yang Zhenning had a deep affection for his motherland. As early as 1971, when Sino-US relations were beginning to improve, he returned to China for a visit. This trip had a huge impact and encouraged many Chinese scholars living abroad to come back and serve the country. In 1999, he officially became a professor at Tsinghua University and later served as the honorary director of the university’s Institute for Advanced Study. Even in his 80s, he still taught undergraduate courses and worked hard to cultivate young physics talents.
In 2021, Yang Zhenning donated more than 2,000 pieces of his collection, including books, manuscripts and images, to Tsinghua University, which set up a special “Yang Zhenning Resource Room” to preserve these precious materials.
28.Why did Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao win the Nobel Prize in Physics?
A. For developing the Yang-Mills Gauge Field Theory.
B. For proposing the idea of parity non-conservation.
C. For establishing the Standard Model of particle physics.
D. For donating precious materials to Tsinghua University.
29.What is the significance of the Yang-Mills Gauge Field Theory?
A. It won Yang Zhenning the Nobel Prize alone.
B. It laid the foundation for the Standard Model of particle physics.
C. It changed people’s understanding of gravity.
D. It was developed when Yang Zhenning worked at Tsinghua University.
30.What did Yang Zhenning do after 1999?
A. He first returned to China for a visit.
B. He put forward the Yang-Baxter Equation.
C. He taught at Tsinghua University and cultivated talents.
D. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
31.When did Yang Zhenning donate his collection to Tsinghua University?
A.In 1957. B.In 1999. C.In 2021. D.In 2025.
D
AI has made its way into almost every field, and according to Abta’s latest Holiday Habits report, the travel industry is no exception. The rate of people using AI to get some travel ideas has doubled in the past 12 months, up to 8 percent from 4 percent.
The survey of 2,001 people also showed that younger generations are leading the way in using AI. The largest age group is 25- to 34-year-olds, with 18 percent looking for travel ideas through AI. That number drops to 13 percent for 18-to 24-year-olds. And only 3 percent of 55-to 64-year-olds are using AI for holiday tips.
However, AI has not taken over just yet when it comes to researching trips, as Internet searches (48 percent) and recommendations from friends and family (41 percent) still remain the most common ways to choose where to go. In fact, people taking more traditional routes, such as looking through holiday brochures (手册), still take up 25 percent.
Abta says that AI will continue to grow when it comes to trip planning. Holidaymakers have already shown a level of trust in AI for making travel decisions. 43 percent people in the survey said they would be confident to some degree in letting an AI tool plan their holiday, with this number dropping to just 38 percent letting the tool book their trip for them.
Travel industry leaders state that AI will continue to be a big part of what customers do before they make a travel decision. According to them, AI will greatly influence the travel industry, but travellers still want to communicate with a travel company before booking trips. Travel companies will not vanish anytime soon, because of that group of customers who think it’s necessary to go in and look someone in the eye when they’re booking something.
32.How does the author develop paragraph 2?
A.By using examples. B.By comparing AI tools.
C.By explaining rules. D.By presenting numbers.
33.What is the most common way for people to make travel plans?
A.Depending on AI tools.
B.Asking for others’ advice.
C.Searching the Internet.
D.Reading the holiday advertisements.
34.What does the underlined word “vanish” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Disappear. B.Enlarge. C.Succeed. D.Recover.
35.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The rapid development of AI tools.
B.The rising role of AI in travel planning.
C.The younger generations’ preference for AI.
D.The great challenges faced by travel companies.

But why do we go to environments that are dangerous and even deadly to humans? The answer is simple. 36 In this article, we’ll read the major four benefits of space exploration.
Promote the progress of medicine
37 For example, analyzing the effects of zero-gravity (零重力) on blood flow led to many discoveries on how to prevent some heart illnesses. The experiments and measurements of bone strength and bone loss in astronauts have helped doctors better understand bone diseases.
Develop new technologies
The space race has birthed the most technological advancements in the shortest period of time. 38 For example, the running shoes were originally developed for astronauts. We use them in our day-to-day lives without even knowing that some NASA engineers originally developed them for the Apollo program that took humankind to the moon.
Start space tourism
The biggest dream some of us have is being able to take a trip to outer space. However, it is still too expensive to go to space. As reusable rockets improve, the costs of these trips will become significantly lower. 39
Inspire the next generation
Space exploration stimulates the curiosity of children. 40 Not only is this good for them as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) jobs can secure them a comfortable future, but it also helps humans.
A. Technologies have advanced considerably.
B. It gets students interested in science and technology.
C. Hopefully one day they’ll be within the reach for all of us.
D. These include stepping up cooperation in space exploration.
E. The benefits of space exploration go beyond the dangers of it.
F. Studying the effects of space travel can lead to some medical benefits.
G. Throughout the years, companies have found consumer uses for many of these developments.

第二节 (满分25分)
67.
Thanksgiving for the Soul
Working as a primary teacher in Pompton Lakes Primary School, New Jersey, I particularly believed in cultivating love in children from an early age. I wanted children to experience that it’s more blessed to give than to receive. I wanted them to understand that love of society and love of life is not just lip service; that people somehow have to make it come alive. I hoped they could experience a sense of their own power to make a difference.
There was a rural area nearby where a lot of aged people lived in solitude (孤独). They either had no family or their children had left to work in big cities. Most of them lived on government aid to keep body and soul together. An agency, which was in charge of the elder people in this region, had once told me about a needy grandmother, Mrs. Wilson, who had lived alone for many years. I had always desired to do something for her. So I came up with the Thanksgiving plan.
In October, I told the eight-year-olds in my class about my plan. “I’d like all of you to do extra jobs around the house to earn some money,” I said. “Then we’ll buy food for a Thanksgiving dinner for a needy grandma who might not have a nice dinner otherwise.”
Early in Thanksgiving week, the boys and girls arrived in class clutching (紧握) their hard-earned money. They had cleared rubbish, set tables, washed dishes, helped with younger siblings. And now they couldn’t wait to go shopping.
I watched while they ran up and down the supermarket aisles (货架通道). At last we headed toward the checkout, pushing a cart filled with turkey and all the trimmings (配料). Then someone spotted a “necessity”—flowers, which caught their attention. All kids ran toward the holiday flowers, with one proposing, “Flowers! We can buy her a bunch of flowers!”
