How will cities use technology in the future to maintain power during natural disasters? Some clever middle school students are already thinking about this question.
Teams of students from around the world explained their ideas about this topic at the Future City Competition, which recently took place in Washington D.C. Students from Justice Page Middle School in Minneapolis, US, were in one of the teams.
Instead of using popular technologies like flying cars and artificial intelligence (人工智能), the students from Justice Page Middle School took a more simple approach to the topic.
They spent a few weeks developing their ideas and building a model to demonstrate them. They chose the city of Maui in Hawaii as the place for their project. They chose this city because several different kinds of natural disasters happened there in the past.
In their project, they covered roofs in the city with solar panels (太阳能板), which help produce and store power. When a power failure happens, the stored power can be sent to different neighborhoods.
The students brought their model to life with 3D printing technology. They printed the parts they needed and set them up on circuit boards (电路板). To make the model more realistic (逼真的), they made a base out of wooden blocks and grass.
The team did not win the finals, but the experience was valuable. Ryan Rowell, 13, said he thought it was cool to think about things that he hadn’t considered before. He also saw how other teams made their own presentations and marketed interesting ideas. He said he wants to keep learning about engineering.
66.What does the underlined word “approach” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
A.临近 B.方法 C.要求 D.赞同
67.According to Paragraph 5, what will happen when there is a power failure?

B.He thought marketing his team’s ideas was difficult.
C.He was disappointed about losing the competition.
D.He is a student from England.
69.What do we know about the team from Justice Page Middle School?
A.They used AI technology to build their model.
B.They chose Washington D.C. as the place for their project.
C.They made great efforts to make their model realistic.
D.The members are all girls.
70.The passage mainly talks about-________.
A.a new invention that produces power B.cities that have been hit by natural disasters

Chinese people are eating too much salt. On average, people in China eat about 10.5grams of salt each day, much higher than the 5 grams recommended by Chinese Dietary Guidelines (2022).
China now has one of the highest salt intakes in the world. To fix this, China issued a salt reduction guide for its food industry.
If the guide is followed properly, the average salt intake for Chinese people will drop by 20 percent by 2030. The guide calls for food companies to lower the salt content in their products by improving their production techniques and adjusting (调整) flavors.
The salt we take in mainly comes from processed food. For example, a 104-gram can of Lay’s classic potato chips contains about 0.66 grams of salt, which accounts for over 10percent of the recommended daily salt intake. A100-gram bag of Kang Shi Fu instant noodles has nearly 2 grams of salt.
A small amount of salt makes food taste better and is important for good health, but eating too much increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes (中风), the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Less salt leads to better health. And there’s no need to worry that food will be less tasty in the future. A study by the Monell Chemical Senses Center in the United States found that it’s easy for people to reduce their salt intake. Although you may think your food is not salty enough at first, your taste buds (味蕾) will gradually get used to it and you will feel that your food tastes the same as it did before.
71.How much salt should a man take in according to Chinese Dietary Guidelines?
A.2 grams. B.5 grams. C.10.5 grams. D.0.66 grams.
72.What can we infer from the fact that China issued a salt reduction guide for food industry?
A.The food industry has no awareness of the high salt problem.
B.The average salt intake for Chinese people will drop by 20 percent by 2030.
C.The government is taking active measures to solve the high-salt intake problem.
D.The food industry will be forced to close down if they don’t follow the guide.
73.Where does the salt we take in mainly come from?
A.Fresh vegetables. B.Natural water. C.Fruits. D.Processed food.
74.The underlined word “intake” in the second paragraph probably means “______” in Chinese.
A.摄入量 B.销售量 C.消耗量 D.产出量
75.According to the passage, what can we infer about people’s taste buds?
A.They always prefer salty food.
B.They can’t adapt to less-salty food.
C.They will gradually change to get used to less-salty food.
D.They play no role in reducing salt intake.
第二节:判断 (共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分)
请根据下面的短文内容判断下列句子,如果正确就选"T",如果错误就选"F",如果文中没有提到就选"N"。
At airports, it’s common to see people saying goodbye. But travelers leaving Dunedin, a city in New Zealand, need to be quick with their hugs. The international airport in Dunedin has a new rule: people can only hug for three minutes.
Outside the airport terminal, there are signs that say, “Max hug time: 3 minutes.” The signs also say that if people want longer hugs, they should go to the airport’s parking lot.
The airport’s CEO, Dan De Bono, explained that this rule was introduced in September to keep the drop-off area (下车区) outside the airport running smoothly. The airport wanted people to know that this area was only for quick goodbyes. What’s more, he said that three minutes is enough to stop the car, say goodbye to your loved ones and move on.
There are many different ideas about this rule on social media. Some people said the airport was violating (侵犯) basic human rights by limiting how long a hug can be. But others welcomed the change.
Other airports have different ways to deal with drivers who park in drop-off areas for too long. Some in Britain charge fees for this no matter how short. But Dunedin’s airport chose a “strange” way.
But people need not worry too much about getting caught. Dan De Bono said, “We don’t have hug police.” However, people might be asked to move their long hugs to the parking lot, where they can hug free of charge for up to 15 minutes.
76.Travelers leaving Dunedin Airport are allowed to hug for five minutes.
77.The signs outside Dunedin Airport terminal only mention the max hug time.
78.The rule is to ensure the smooth running of the drop-off area.
79.The rule in Dunedin Airport will be carried out all over the country.
80.At Dunedin Airport, people are strictly punished for hugging over three minutes in the drop-off area.
第三节:简答 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请根据以下短文内容,回答短文后面的问题,答题回答词数不得超过10个单词。
Space tour is not all about rockets — large space balloons can do it too! The company HALO Space in Spain completed the first test flight of its balloon in December, 2022. This means another company joined the competition of making space tour a reality.
During the test flight, the balloon reached an altitude of 37 kilometers where passengers would be able to look at the Earth from the blackness of space, according to Daily Mail. When the flights are available, the company aims to carry 3,000 passengers on 400 trips.
How does a space balloon work? The balloon is usually filled with helium or hydrogen, which are both much lighter than air, and it flies up.
According to NASA, the balloon is filled with the amount of gas that will give it enough lift to get off the ground and rise. As it rises, the gas inside the balloon grows larger.
The balloon stops when the density of the gas inside and the air outside is about the same, it begins to fall down as gas goes out slowly.
So the whole trip is not intense. The Space Perspective in US says that the trips are about relaxation. The balloon rises slowly at 12 miles (about 18.3 kilometers) an hour, and it takes about two hours to get to the 37 km altitude. It also takes another two hours to go back to the land.
Since its successful test flight in June 2022, Space Perspective Company started selling tickets for spaceflights in 2024 — and it has already sold out. The company now buys ships to turn them into “floating spaceports”, reported Daily Mail. By lifting the balloon from ships on the sea, there will be more chances to enjoy the tour, such as flights at sunrise and sunset.

【答案】71.B 72.C 73.D 74.A 75.C

与所给表述“At Dunedin Airport, people are strictly punished for hugging over three minutes in the drop-off area.
