Mr. Arthur Hale is a retired (退休的) primary school teacher from Vancouver, Canada. When he was young, he fell in love with reading. He always hoped to bring the joy of reading to more kids. In 2019, he found local kids had few storybooks at home. He decided to do something about it.
At first, he put 30 of his old books into a wooden box by his front gate. He wrote a sign: “Take a book, leave a book.” The box became popular very fast. Neighbors started bringing their old books to fill the box.
After two years, Mr. Hale had a bigger plan. He wanted to bring such mini-libraries to more corners of the community. He learned that many local kids spent their after-school time alone on the streets with nothing fun to do. He wanted to change that.
With the help of the community, he built his first free street library in 2021. It was a small wooden house on a pole (杆子), full of picture books and storybooks for kids. Mr. Arthur Hale is a retired (退休的) primary school teacher from Vancouver, Canada. When he was young, he fell in love with reading. He always hoped to bring the joy of reading to more kids. In 2019, he found local kids had few storybooks at home. He decided to do something about it.
