Li Wei is a seventh grader. He makes a timetable for this term. The timetable is important to him because it helps him arrange (安排) his school days well. Here’s what his daily life is like on school days:

read books and play sports at school
A timetable is very helpful to students. First of all, it can help with their health. Some students have no time for a good breakfast or some exercise. Also, they go to bed late and have difficulty getting up early. We all know they are important parts of a healthy life. With a timetable, these students can do them well even when they’re busy with their schoolwork. Second, a timetable can help them do more things in one day. It sets time for different things, so they know what to do at different times. Then they can make good use of their time and finish more things. Li Wei is a good example for this.
If you want to make a timetable to plan your day, think about these questions firstly: What are your goals for the day? What work do you have to finish? Then write down these activities. After that, you can add time for them to finish your timetable.
Some students find it difficult to keep a timetable. But when you do the same activities every day, they finally become your habits. Why not try making a timetable for yourself?

第四段中“them”所在句为:“Then write down these activities. After that, you can add time for them to finish your timetable.”,结合前文“write down these activities”,因此“them”指代“these activities”。

An elephant and a monkey were arguing.
“Look, how big and strong I am!” the elephant said.
The monkey disagreed, “Look, how fast I can run and climb! Can you?”
At last they asked a wise tiger, “Which is better—to be strong or to be quick?”
The tiger said, “Go across the river and pick the fruit on that tree for me, and then I can tell you.”
The elephant and the monkey went to the river, but the water ran fast and the monkey was afraid.
“Get on my back,” said the elephant proudly. “I shall carry you.”
Soon they crossed the river. There stood the tree. But the fruit was too high for the elephant to reach. He also tried to pull the tree down, but failed.
“Don’t worry.” The monkey climbed quickly up the tree, and picked the fruit.
Then they returned and gave the tiger the fruit, “Which is better—to be strong or to be quick?”
The tiger smiled, “Neither of you could get the fruit alone. It took both the elephant’s strength and the monkey’s quickness to get it.”
16. What did the elephant and the monkey argue about?
A. Who could answer their question. B. Whose skill was better.
C. How to be a king. D. Where to pick the fruit.

A. By working together. B. By pulling down the tree.
C. By arguing with friends. D. By asking the tiger for help.
B 17. C 18. D 19. D 20. A

第四段问句“Which is better—to be strong or to be quick?”
第五段“Go across the river and pick the fruit on that tree for me, and then I can tell you.”
“but”表示转折,说明“failed”与“He also tried to pull the tree down”表达相反意思,也就是大象尝试把树拉倒,但是没有成功,“failed”的意思是“Didn’t succeed.”。
倒数第四段“But the fruit was too high for the elephant to reach.”
最后一句“It took both the elephant’s strength and the monkey’s quickness to get it.”

句型“It takes sb. some time to do sth.” 因此,此处应填to get。
5-hours(名词复数)、5 hour(缺连字符且名词未变单数)、5 hours(名词复数形式)均不符合复合形容词的构词规则。
(to) do sth.”
put up their hands意为“举手”,符合语境。
根据前文“I wanted to know more about the little boys and girls”可知,为了了解学生,作者课后与他们“交谈”。talked with意为“与…… called back“回电话”、thought of“想起”、listened to“听”均不能准确表达为了了解学生而进行的沟通行为。
how to write意为“如何写”,符合语境。
空前“only”及后文“days”为可数名词复数,排除修饰不可数名词的little和a little。
固定句型“It is time for sb. to do sth.”
后文“out of the small village to big cities”说明,作者希望孩子们通过努力学习,能够“走出”小村庄。walk out of意为“走出去”,符合语境。eat out of“吃光”、take out of“拿出”、try out of“尝试”均与离开村庄去往大城市的语境不符。

Lewis is a wild elephant. He lives in the Samburu National Reserve (保护区) in Kenya, a country in Africa. Lewis uses his legs to walk and his eyes to look for food. He uses his trunk (象鼻) to catch food.
African elephants are in danger. That means the number of elephants is very small in some places. To protect them, natural reserves like the Samburu National Reserve are set up (建立). They give the animals a safe place to live.
Protecting huge animals can be hard. Food and space (空间) are quite important for elephants. It is difficult to find spaces that are large enough and enough food for them. Many smaller animals, like deer, share 64-square-mile reserve. They need less food than Lewis. And unlike Lewis, they don’t walk into unsafe places.
Scientists wanted to find out what made the elephants walk into unsafe places. Maybe then they could keep them safe in Samburu. They put special collars (颈圈) around the necks of elephants to follow them. Scientists learned that Lewis often left the reserve during the dry season. When there was little rain, he couldn’t find enough to eat. He learned to find delicious crops (庄稼) on a farm. This information will help Lewis. Scientists can give him food in the dry seasons.

47. Why is the Samburu National Reserve set up?

48. Is it more common (更常见) for elephants or deer to walk into unsafe places?
