We all remember the first adventure novel where our imaginations were lit by whispers of buried treasure,
lost worlds, and faraway jungles.Luckily, here are some of the best adventure books.Click on the book name for
detailed information.
Jaws by Peter Benchley
The 1974 book inspired Steven Spielberg's hit movie-which then made beach attendance drop
dramatically in 1975.Jaw s is the story of three men's search to kill a human-eating great white shark. It's a
high-risky adventure on the sea, which holds more dangers than anyone could have ever imagined.
Children of the Comet by Donald Moffitt
In the far future,a small community lives in space and harvests frozen air to make a living. But what
happens when hunters from neighboring comets ()-and humans on spaceships-appear on the scene?
This is a great adventure in a very literal sense,as our young hero,Torris, tries to survive on a comet made
entirely of ice.
Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs
This book launched the legend of an orphaned boy who is adopted by apes in the African jungle.Named
Tarzan, the boy eventually has to prove himself on two fronts:the animal kingdom and the even more threatening
world of humans. In the animal kingdom,Tarzan shows his survival skills and strength as he competes with
powerful predators )However,Tarzan's greatest test lies in his interaction with humans. As he
encounters explorers and settlers in the African jungle,he must deal with the complexities of human society.
Raptor Red by Robert T.Bakker
This book tells the story of a female Utahraptor named Red and her struggles for survival in the prehistoric
dinosaur-eat-dinosaur world.Unlike any other book out there,Raptor Red is told from the third-person point of

I received a private message on Facebook. It began harmlessly enough:"Hey,girl. You are wanted to join
my next challenge group-we'll be focusing on fitting in 30 minutes of exercise and balanced nutrition."It was
all becoming too much.Facebook was running my life, not me.
But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked me how
many "likes"it had got.His question was a wake-up call."Likes"are signs of acceptance and approval.I had
forgotten that acceptance and approval need to come from within and had unknowingly set him a bad example.
Before Facebook, surfing the internet was an occasional distraction(and I spent a lot more time
reading books.I checked in with friends through texts, emails and phone calls.
To recreate the simplicity of those days and set a healthier example for my son,I closed my Facebook
account.I'd been in the habit of checking Facebook many times a day,so I had to come up with some new habits.
I carried a novel and a crossword puzzle book around with me.I started taking yoga classes again.
I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is.I have friends who will help me out
when I'm in trouble, and I will help them out.I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is happy and healthy.
We are very lucky to be able to afford two vacations a year.I stopped looking at the world through my cellphone.
I felt completely present in the moment. The break left me feeling better about myself,my family,my home and
my life.
After a few weeks,I returned to Facebook. Now I look at the photos of my friends'kids growing up and
treasure how social media allows me to keep in touch with family far and wide.I look in on a daily basis, but no
longer with the desire constantly to post updates. It is not an addiction any more.I managed to use it reasonably.

Richard is a very a successful businessman. It is common for him to work hard with a non-stop.He wasn't
aware that he might wear himself out or die an early death until he overslept one morning, which was a sort of
alarm. And then what happened? He had a week's leave during which time he read novels, listened to music and
walked with his wife on a beach, which has enabled Richard to return to work again.
In our modern life,we have lost the rhythm between action and rest.Amazingly, within this world there is a
universal but silly saying:"I am so busy"
We say this to one another as if our tireless efforts were a talent by nature and an ability to successfully deal
with stress. The busier we are,the more important we seem to ourselves and,we imagine,to others. To be
unavailable to our friends and family, and to be unable to find time to relax-this has become the model of a
successful life.
Because we do not rest,we lose our way.We miss the guide telling us where to go,the food providing us
with strength, the quiet giving us wisdom.
How have we allowed this to happen?I believe it is this:we have forgotten the Sabbath, the day of the week
-for followers of some religions-for rest and praying. It is a day when we are not supposed to work,a time
when we devote ourselves to enjoying and celebrating what is beautiful. It is a good time to bless our children
and loved ones, give thanks, share meals, walk and sleep. It is a time for us to take a rest,to put our work aside,
trusting that there are larger forces at work taking care of the world.
Rest is s spiritual and biological need;however,in our strong ambition to be successful and care for our
many responsibilities,we may feel terribly guilty when we take time to rest. The Sabbath gives us permission to
stop work.In fact,"Remember the Sabbath"is more than simply permission to rest;it is a rule to obey and a
principle to follow.
61.What's the function of the paragraph 1?
A.To tell us that Richard lives a healthy life.
B.To bring up the topic of the passage.
C.To give us a brief introduction of Richard D.To tell Richard is a successful businessman.
62.The“alarm”in the first paragraph refers to“
A a signal of stress B.a warning of danger C.a sign of age D.a spread of disease
63.According to Paragraph 3,a successful person is one who is believed to
A.be able to work without stress B.be more talented than other people
C.be more important than anyone else D.be busying working without time to rest
第6页/共8页
64.According to the passage during the Sabbath, what we should do except
A.Praying for our family.
B.Taking a good break.
C.Only working for two hours.
D.Enjoying delicious meal.
65.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.We should balance work with rest.
B.The Sabbath gives us permission to rest.
C.It is silly for anyone to say"I am busy."D.We should be available to our family and friends.

Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise Table,a movement of ordinary people who want to create
community right in their own front yards.Ten years ago,she and her family moved to a new home in Austin,
Texas.
One day,Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbors by hosting a party. She bought a few picnic tables
but the delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake:"After the party,I painted the table
turquoise-my favorite color-and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,"she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. They played games.did crafts
and ate snacks.
Neighbors began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat.Kristin invited people to join
her at the table for coffee or iced tea. Then neighbors asked Kristin if their family could put a picnic table in their
front yard too.A movement was bom."It was a simple way to slow down and connect with others,"she says. The
turquoise table was inviting and had a shared feel.
People often hesitate to invite others into their homes. They think their house is too messy,it's not big
enough or they don't have enough time."Our perfectionism can cause us to miss out on the joy of connecting
with others,"Kristin says. Her picnic table takes away the excuses-and the pressure.
She likes how it enables her to take a small step toward easing loneliness and building relationships in her
community."People's greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,"she says
A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13
