The best theaters are carefully built using a mix of materials that address spatial considerations while maximizing the overall sound. But as a study published today in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America suggests, there is another factor that often affects how much you enjoy a show. “Our feeling about a room’s sound comes from many sides,” said Stefan Weinzierl of Technical University of Berlin. The key is how we feel about a theater, and not necessarily its measurable sound qualities. In addition to reverberation (混响) and timbre (音色), the theater’s appearance also influences how we understand the sound we hear. “A hall can appear warm, or it can appear bright or metallic in sound,” Weinzierl continued. To illustrate this phenomenon, Weinzierl’s team asked volunteers to experience concerts in various theaters — but with a catch. Given the challenge of moving participants around many locations, the team broadcast the performances to the volunteers on virtual reality (VR) headsets. Each person then watched four shows in 12 different theaters featuring various combinations of color and brightness. To increase the realism, the VR headsets changed the sound by itself when people moved their heads. Following each concert, volunteers rated them based on enjoyment, timbre, reverberance and strength. The results were clear. There was a clear correlation between a music hall’s visuals and the perceived timbre of songs. Brighter or cooler colors like blue and green made the sound feel “colder.” Darker theaters also often increased how much a participant liked the music they heard. At the same time, there was no change in perceived volume (音量) depending on coloration — a finding supported by past studies. The study’s authors said that while theater designers should still focus on making the sound great, these visual signs warrant important considerations. “All the money that is spent for making a concert hall sound well — I think it should not be overlooked that the visual appearance makes its contribution to the sound of the hall,” added Weinzierl. 24.What affects people’s feeling about a theater’s sound besides sound qualities? A.The size of the stage. B.The look of the theater. C.The number of viewers. D.The time of the concert. 25.What can be inferred about the VR headsets used in the experiment? A.They made the experiment more practical to conduct. B.They were used to replace traditional seats in real halls. C.They offered a more realistic experience than real theaters. D.They helped researchers control the volunteers’ movements. 26.What does the underlined word “warrant” in paragraph 5 probably mean? A.Explain. B.Require. C.Observe. D.Benefit. 27.What is the best title for the text? A.How to Build an Excellent Theater B.How to Improve Concert Sound Quality C.Visuals Affect People’s Listening Experience D.Virtual Reality Helps Test Stage Show Effects C Cancelled plans — especially a meeting at work — often feel like an unexpected gift. Even if it is only an hour, receiving a message that a meeting has been cancelled can bring a strong sense of freedom. But why does this happen? Researchers believe that unexpectedly getting time back can change our psychological perception (心理感知) of time, which then influences how we choose to spend it. Gabriela Tonietto, a researcher at Rutgers University, explored this question in a study published in the Journal of the Association for Consumer Research. Tonietto studies time management and how people respond to busy schedules. Her earlier research examined issues such as over-scheduling and the feeling that people never seem to have enough time. In the new study, Tonietto and her co-workers focused on what happens when people suddenly gain time, which they call “windfall time”. The research team carried out seven surveys involving more than 2,300 participants from universities and online platforms. The first four surveys asked participants to compare unexpected free time, such as a cancelled meeting, with free time that had already been planned. The results showed that a gained hour often feels longer than a normal free hour. According to the researchers, this happens because people compare the gained time with the expectation of having no free time at all. This comparison makes the extra time feel more noticeable and valuable. The researchers also examined how people use this windfall time. In the remaining surveys, participants reported their intended or actual behavior when they suddenly had more time available. Many people preferred to do things that demanded more time than usual. For example, someone with an unexpected free hour might start a longer task or walk to a coffee shop instead of quickly getting a drink nearby. Tonietto suggests that understanding how people view gained time may help organizations design more flexible (灵活的) schedules. However, when free time appears suddenly, people are often more likely to relax rather than fix attention on work. 28.How does the author introduce the topic of the text? A.By quoting a famous psychologist. B.By describing a common phenomenon. C.By stressing the importance of freedom. D.By presenting a tough scientific question. 29.What makes an unexpected free hour feel longer? A.The low expectation of daily work tasks. B.The poor psychological perception of time. C.The good mood brought by unexpected gifts. D.The difference between expectation and reality. 30.What will people do with the “windfall” time according to the new study? A.Manage household affairs. B.Make plans for future schedules. C.Finish small tasks at hand quickly. D.Choose activities that take longer. 31.What can we infer from the last paragraph? A.Flexible schedules are hard to carry out. B.People may waste unexpected free time. C.Sudden free time may lower work focus. D.Companies object to changing work plans. D An 85-year-old hugged a younger woman she hadn’t seen for months, and she chanted (吟唱) some questions in the special routine of her ancestors in Burundi, “How are you? How is your husband? How are the kids?” Namukobwa paused to permit the younger woman Nzeyimana to answer. Nzeyimana, the visiting daughter of a former neighbour, replied over and over in the local Kirundi language. A group of neighbours watched in amazement. Many were seeing their first performance of the traditional form of musical greeting, known to Burundians as akazehe. It is performed only by women on a range of occasions. However, akazehe is disappearing, despite its unique status (地位) in this central African country. That’s according to cultural officials, teachers and others who say it is worth preserving. They mentioned the threat from public health measures that discourage unnecessary contact during disease outbreaks, in addition to the perceived failure to promote akazehe among school-going youth. A custom such as akazehe should be preserved because of its role in protecting families, said Nikobiba, an anthropologist (人类学家) in Bujumbura. Among communities that practise it, women could tell elder women about any problems at home. Nikobiba explained, “Normally, before starting a home in traditional Burundi, the girl would first receive advice from her father’s sister. She would tell the girl, ‘I will come to greet you after a certain time.’” Such support from elders would help them develop better mental health for the young family, he added. Ntakirutimana was among the women who gathered to watch Namukobwa greeting Nzeyimana. She said she grew up in a farming community where no mother could perform akazehe. After watching, she wanted to learn akazehe herself. “I feel better,” Ntakirutimana said, “and I saw it was good.” 32.What was Namukobwa doing according to paragraph 1? A.Practising a song. B.Sharing a story. C.Teaching a language. D.Performing a custom. 33.What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The status of akazehe in Burundi. B.The difficulty in promoting akazehe. C.The reasons for the decline of akazehe. D.The impact of akazehe on public health. 34.Nikobiba thinks that the role of akazehe lies in ___________. A.building an active community B.maintaining traditional customs C.bringing comfort to elders in a family D.providing psychological support for women 35.Why does the writer mention Ntakirutimana in the last paragraph? A.To praise the politeness of Burundians. B.To show the influence of cultural practices. C.To stress the importance of careful observation. D.To indicate the necessity of learning how to greet. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 For children, being able to get online can be both good and bad. On the good side, digital technology can connect a child to information and to a much larger community. It helps them learn new things beyond textbooks and make more friends. But on the bad side, it can also bring great harm and stress. 36 Being online has many benefits. 37 We honestly believe that — especially for kids in places where possibilities are few or for children who are disabled — it is completely clear that the Internet is especially useful and is already offering children a better chance to grow. 38 For example, in Europe, 88% of children are online. Yet, in Africa, the number is only 40%. These offline children are missing out on the benefits offered by the Internet. According to a recent UNICEF report, one in three Internet users around the world is a child. Nowadays, countless children across the world are spending a lot of time online. 39 Worse still, few steps are taken to protect kids from dangers in the digital world. For example, many children around the world have a digital footprint (足迹) before they can actually walk and make real footprints. Nowadays, a child’s medical records may be stored in the cloud. 40 But making all this personal information public may put a child at risk. These risks include the misuse of children’s private information, getting to harmful content and cyberbullying. A.Actually, it does more harm than good. B.Children can express themselves freely online. C.In fact, getting to the Internet can change a child’s life. D.But around one-third of the world’s youth lack Internet access. E.This is especially true to children who use the Internet unwisely. F.Yet little is known about digital technology’s influence on their well-being. G.As children grow, they may share their personal details, photos or videos online. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 It’s a sad reality that many of us find ourselves just too busy to contribute to our communities. His early works 57 (characterize) by dark colors until 1886, 58 his brother, Theo, invited him to come to live in Paris, where the bright colors of Impressionist art greatly influenced his style. Later, Van Gogh moved to southern France. In 1888, after suffering a mental breakdown, he stayed in a hospital where he painted over 20 versions of 59 view from his window, which covered different times and weather conditions, 60 (create) only one night view. He wrote to Theo: “This morning I saw the countryside… with nothing but the morning star.” This “star” was actually Venus, which inspired him to create his 61 (influence) painting, The Starry Night. The Starry Night (1889) describes a dramatic cypress tree stretching upward like flames, imaginary village scenery, and a swirling sky 62 (fill) with celestial bodies. Though unrealistically adding a village, the painting reveals 63 Van Gogh perceived through his “mind’s eye”. James Dotson was laboring in his garden when a loud, painful cry came from the woods behind his home. Realizing something wrong must have happened, he rushed towards the woods quickly. Soon he found an injured baby deer lying in a pit (深坑), one of his skinny legs bleeding. So weak was the little deer that it didn’t have the strength to move when Dotson approached. He squatted (蹲下) and stretched out his hands to the deer with great care and pulled it up. As he carried the little deer towards their home, his daughter Maggie rushed outside and greeted her father with great excitement. “Wow, a deer! What happened to him, Daddy?” asked Maggie. “Well, the poor deer’ left leg is hurt badly.” Mr. Dotson said gently while walking into the sitting room. Maggie followed her father to take a better look. “Poor little deer. Can we keep him, Daddy? And I will call him Paxton.” “That’s a fine name for a deer, Maggie. We’ll do everything we can to help him,” smiled Mr. Dotson. “But we can’t keep him. He’s a wild animal.” After Mr. Dotson carefully placed the little deer on the floor, he asked Maggie to go to the kitchen and get his medical bag. The little deer was in luck. He was being attended to by James Dotson, the local Veterinarian. In a flash, Maggie rushed outside carrying his medical bag and a small carrot she had grabbed from the refrigerator. Maggie handed her father the bag and then placed the carrot by Paxton’s mouth, but the poor creature wasn’t interested. It was so unsettled, hardly able to eat anything and had such an air of sadness on its face. Maggie was worried and sad. However, her father convinced her that Paxton would be ok. 注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Paxton was taken good care of in their home. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Now it was time to send Paxton to where it belonged—nature. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 参考答案 听力部分录音稿 (Text 1) W: Good morning, sir. Is there anything I can do for you? M: Yes, I’d like to fix my car lights. Last night, I couldn’t see anything and almost hit a traffic island. (Text 2) W: What do you think of today’s NBA game? M: I haven’t seen a better one. Kevin Durant really did a good job. (Text 3) W: You were in a river in this picture. Were you swimming? M: No. The river was polluted so my workmates and I were taking measurements of the water’s temperature and pH. W: Was the pollution serious? Is any fish in the river now? (Text 4) M: Raise your head a little bit and smile a little. OK, you look great in the camera. W: Wait a minute. Let me put on my hat. (Text 5) W: I have to attend a parents’ meeting this evening at my daughter’s school. Please help me cancel the meeting at 7:30 pm. M: OK. I can make it on tomorrow morning. (Text 6) W: Thanks for inviting me to go bird-watching, Greg. M: Shh! Don’t talk so loud. W: Why? I haven’t seen any birds yet. They can’t be scared by our voice. M: No, only when it is quiet can we listen for their songs. Then we can find them easily. W: I see. Do you go bird-watching every weekend? M: No, I go about once a month. W: It’s a good way of spending time outdoors. (Text 7) W: Tony, what have you got in your hand? M: A reading list. As the holiday is coming, we are asked to do some reading and write a book review. Don’t you have this assignment? W: No. What books are on your list? M: A Song of Ice and Fire, Thirteen Reasons Why and First Test. W: Do you have to read them all? M: No. Just one of them. Would you please give me some advice? W: I’ve never read any of them, but I hear that Thirteen Reasons Why and A Song of Ice and Fire have been adapted for TV plays. I’ve watched the TV series Game of Thrones, which was adapted from the latter. M: Great. This is the book I will read. (Text 8) W: Leo, I saw a photo of you playing the piano on the display board in the classroom. M: Yeah, that was a year ago. I took part in a piano competition. W: We are trying to organize a music group to celebrate National Day. We have enough guitar players, violin players, but we still need some piano players. M: Oh, really? Sounds good to me. But... W: Are you too busy with your study? M: No, actually I haven’t played the piano for a long time. I’m afraid I can’t play as well as I used to. W: Don’t worry about it. We’ll be practicing for a few months before we have to perform. M: OK, then, I’d be glad to. It can help me relax and it’s a good chance to meet new people. W: That’s true. And I’m sure your piano will be a great addition to our group. M: I do hope so. (Text 9) M: Hello, I am William. W: Hello, you are the new designer for our department, right? M: Yes. W: Welcome. I heard we would have a talented young man working with us. M: Thank you! Are you British? W: Well, actually, I am French. But I have been in England for 15 years. M: Such a long time. W: And my husband Bob was born in England. He teaches spoken English in a university. So I always learn English from him. M: No wonder you speak English so fluently. W: Thank you! How about you? Where are you from? M: I am from Rome, Italy. W: Oh, really? I once went there during the Christmas holiday with my son. M: How do you like it? W: Very much. It’s the most beautiful city I have ever been to. And the guide there was very nice. M: Thank you. I’m very glad to hear that. W: Can you teach me Italian? M: I will if I am free. Can you show the department to me now? W: OK, let’s go. (Text 10) W: Hello, everyone. Do you know Ben Nevis? It’s the highest mountain in Britain. Today I’ll tell you my experience of climbing it. It was in February. We camped at the bottom of the mountain. Although the weather forecast was perfect, with no winds or snow, there was still a general feeling of nervousness when we set out. The group soon climbed and my legs felt heavy. Being the weakest member of the group, I had to rest more frequently. The others sometimes stopped for a break to let me catch up. Mr. Dotson attended to Paxton’s injured leg. Maggie never left home without feeding him first thing every morning. With time and effort, not only did the deer get his strength back, but he began to eat carrots right out of Maggie’s hand. Everything went on well until Mr. Dotson said it was time to set Paxton free. Maggie shook her head and refused. Patting her gently on the head Mr. Dotson said, “Paxton needs to be with his parents, just like you. You love Paxton and wish him happy, right?” Maggie seemingly understood and nodded her head. Now it was time to send Paxton to where it belonged—nature. Paxton walked into the woods with Mr. Dotson and Maggie, running and jumping. Maggie kissed Paxton, “It’s time for you to reunite with your parents. I will miss you, Paxton.” Away ran Paxton quickly. Maggie couldn’t help crying. Suddenly, she found Paxton stopped in his tracks and looked back at her as if trying to convey deep, unspoken gratitude. After a few seconds, he disappeared into the woods. Bathed in the golden sunlight, and hugged tightly by her father, Maggie finally understood the true meaning of love. 2、续写线索:照顾——恢复——Maggie拒绝释放——点头答应——Paxton回归大自然——感悟 3、词汇激活 行为类 ①照顾:attend to/take care of ②拒绝:refuse/reject ③消失:disappear/vanish 情绪类 ①高兴:happy/delighted ②感激:gratitude/thankfulness 第 page number 页,共 number of pages 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $这是英语科听力部分,请看听力部分第一节。 For you.
