Near Kayla Kleine’s house lives a family of bears and she knows them quite well. That said, they had never successfully gotten inside before...until now. While one bear was secretly eating some dog food in the yard, Kayla was listening to some light music and preparing to go out for the day. That’s why minutes passed before she came to realize the bear’s presence.
Kayla’s dog, a Pomeranian, won’t be kind to anyone eating up his food. So, as soon as the 5-month-old dog noticed the bear, he didn’t hesitate (犹豫) to tell him off. In fact, it was the dog’s trying to drive it away that made Kayla find what was going on. While we should never put our dog in a dangerous situation like this, sometimes things happen that are out of our control. Although Kayla was worried about her beloved pet, she found that he had the situation entirely under control.
Kayla stood still for a moment, completely surprised at what she’d just seen — her tiny Pomeranian’s fearlessly running after a full-grown bear. She quickly picked up her phone, hands still a little shaky, and hit record, eager (急切的) to take down the unbelievable scene. After making sure the bear had left the yard and her dog was safe, she decided to share the video online, never expecting how much attention it would get. In just a short time, the video spread like wildfire, being shared and commented (评论) on by thousands of people, turning into a hit overnight.
“Poor bear, nearly lost its life to a dog,” someone shares in reply to Kayla’s video. Others add. “The dog has no idea that he’s smaller than the bear” and “Does either one of them know what type of animal they are?”
24.What can be learned from paragraph 2?
A.The dog’s goal was to protect his food.
B.The dog had been trained for dangerous situations.
C.The dog thought for some time before taking action.
D.The bear’s weaknesses were made full use of by the dog.
25.Why didn’t Kayla notice the bear immediately?
A.The bear was small in size.
B.The dog failed to warn her.
C.She was busy with other things.
D.She was playing with her Pomeranian.
26.How do the comments sound?
A.Worried. B.Humorous. C.Honest. D.Encouraging.
27.Why did Kayla post the video online?
A.To attract attention. B.To deal with trouble.
C.To call for protection for bears. D.To remember the moment.

A little more than a year ago, Malia Martinez was introduced to a sewing (缝纫) machine, thanks to a thoughtful Christmas gift. “I got a gift certificate at Christmas to start sewing lessons,” Martinez said. “I really liked it.”
Later, a campground she often visited held a craft fair(手工制品集市). Surrounded by pet owners and their beloved pets, Malia had an idea that would change lives. Why not create bandannas, a kind of colorful scarf, for dogs and cats and use them to support animal shelters(动物收容所)?
With great passion and the support of her grandmother, Martinez turned a corner of their home into a craft room. Her grandmother helped her when she needed to iron things like that. Together, Martinez and her grandmother made many lovely bandannas(色彩鲜艳的头巾), in different styles and sizes.
But Martinez’s goal went far beyond sewing lovely bandannas. She began donating(捐赠) her creations to shelters like Forever Paws in Fall River, hoping it would attract a potential family. ”When I went to see the dogs in the animal shelters, it was kind of sad. So I thought if we got them a bandanna, they would look cuter like ‘Oh this one is cute. Maybe I can adopt (收养)this one and they would get a home and have the food and shelter they need, said Martinez. “And I just thought it’d be fun to maybe have an impact on that.”
Besides donating bandannas, Martinez began selling them through word-of-mouth and at pop-up events. Ranging from $3 to $7, money from her sales is now donated to shelters too. A few weeks ago, she donated more than $ 200 to the Kingston Animal Shelter. “They were happy and really appreciative, which made me feel really good inside,” said Martinez. “It makes me happy to see how it’s impacted the people and dogs.”
28. What inspired Martinez to create bandannas?
A. A Christmas gift. B. A trip to a craft fair.
C. Her family’s support. D. Her interest in sewing.
29. Why did Martinez give away bandannas to animal shelters?
A. To increase the chances of animal adoption.
B. To call on more people to visit the shelters.
C. To build a home for the homeless animals.
D. To improve the animals’ living conditions.
30. What did Martinez’s grandmother do to support her?
A. She helped with the sewing work.
B. She built a craft room for Martinez.
C. She paid for Martinez’s sewing lessons.
D. She bought Martinez a sewing machine.
31. Which of the following may best describe Martinez?
A. Patient and easygoing. B. Brave and outgoing.
C. Creative and caring. D. Honest and loving.
