A
What is money management?
This means learning how to use your money wisely so you can pay for things you need.
It teaches you about saving, spending, earning, and borrowing. If you’re given cash for your birthday, money management means deciding whether to spend it straight away or invest the money in a savings account and watch it grow. Research shows that young people start to develop financial habits (learning to manage money) from the age of seven, so the sooner you understand how to make good choices, the easier it will be to manage money when you’re older.
How is it good for you?
Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it plays a big role in life. As well as helping you live comfortably, it gives you the freedom to choose how to live. Author Anna Mathur says learning healthy money habits makes you feel more confident. It also teaches important skills such as decision-making and self-control. Choosing not to buy a small treat now so you can afford something bigger later is called “delayed gratification” and studies show this helps you manage your emotions and feel happier.
26.In which part of a teenager magazine can we read the passage?
A.Science & Technology B.World News
C.Animals & Environment D.Smart Living
27.According to the 50/30/20 rule, how much of the money should you save?
A.20%. B.30%. C.50%. D.100%.
28.What does the underlined phrase “delayed gratification” mean in the passage?
A.Spending all your money as soon as you get it.
B.Buying a small treat to make yourself happy now.
C.Waiting to buy a better thing later instead of now.
D.Borrowing money from others to buy what you want.
B
Do you know that your brain can be “cluttered”? Just like a messy room makes it hard to find things, a cluttered brain makes it difficult to think clearly. This often happens when we try to do too many things at once, or when we are always receiving information from phones, computers, and TVs.
Scientists call this “cognitive overload”. When your brain has too much information to process, it becomes slow and tired. You might forget things easily, feel stressed, or find it hard to focus on one task. A study from a top university showed that students who turned off their phones while studying completed their work 40% faster than those who kept their phones nearby.
So how can we “clean” our brain? One simple way is to practice “singletasking” instead of multitasking. Focus on only one thing at a time. For example, when you are reading a book, don’t check your messages at the same time. Another way is to take a “digital break”. Spend 30 minutes a day without any screens—just sit quietly, take a walk, or listen to music. This gives your brain time to rest and organize its thoughts.
Remember, a clean and organized brain works better and helps you feel happier. So, start small today. Put down your phone, take a deep breath, and give your brain the break it truly needs.
29.What does the underlined word “cluttered” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Smart and quick. B.Messy and crowded.
C.Empty and quiet. D.Powerful and large.
30.What happened to students who turned off their phones while studying?
A.They felt more stressed. B.They finished their work faster.
C.They forgot things more easily. D.They used more singletasking.
31.Which of the following is a “digital break” according to the passage?
A.Playing games on the phone for an hour.
B.Watching a movie on TV with family.
C.Sitting in a park without using any electronic devices.
D.Listening to music while checking emails.
32.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain why phones are harmful to students.
B.To tell us how to clean a messy room quickly.
C.To introduce the idea of cognitive overload and offer solutions.
D.To compare singletasking with multitasking.

Be Ready for Your Dream Jobs!
①What’s your dream job? How much do you know about it? A group of students from Tianjin found that most of them had few ideas about their future jobs due to a lack of support from school or family.
②To provide helpful guidance (指导), students from TEDA No.1 Secondary School started an activity called “Dian Zhi Cheng Shi, Zhi Yin Wei Lai”. ④Such interviews don’t disappoint students because there are still some happy and exciting things at work. “We want to show the beauty in every profession,” said Zhao Yajie. “We believe work should be about love. And we hope the activity can help students understand that.”

The big debate
Should social media be banned for teenagers under 16?
When you hear the words “social media”, you might think of sharing photos, chatting with friends, and watching funny videos. But many parents, teachers, and doctors are worried about the effects of social media on young people’s mental health. A recent study found that teenagers who spend more than three hours a day on social media are twice as likely to experience anxiety and depression. What do you think? Should social media be banned for teenagers under 16?
Yes:
1. Social media platforms are designed to be addictive. They use algorithms that keep users scrolling for as long as possible. Teenagers’ brains are still developing, making them especially vulnerable to this manipulation.
2. Cyberbullying is a serious problem. Nearly 60% of teenagers have experienced some form of online harassment. Banning social media would remove this platform for bullies and protect young people’s mental health.
3. Social media promotes unrealistic beauty standards and constant social comparison, which leads to low self-esteem, eating disorders, and body image issues. A ban would give teenagers a chance to develop healthy self-worth away from these harmful influences.
No:
1. A ban would be impossible to enforce. Teenagers would find ways around it, such as lying about their age or using friends’ accounts. This would teach them to be dishonest rather than teaching responsible use.
2. Social media helps teenagers stay connected with friends and family, especially those who live far away. For teenagers who feel isolated or have difficulty making friends in person, social media can provide valuable social support.
3. Instead of a ban, we should teach digital literacy skills. Teenagers need to learn how to recognize misinformation, protect their privacy, and use social media in healthy ways. Education is more effective than prohibition.
What do you think?
Now that you’ve read a bit more about this issue, visit teens.theweekjunior.com/polls so you can vote in our debate. Vote YES if you think social media should be banned for teenagers under 16 or NO if you don’t. We’ll publish the results next week.
38.According to the “YES” side, why are teenagers especially vulnerable to social media addiction?
A.They have more free time than adults. B.Their brains are still developing.
C.They are more interested in technology. D.They have fewer responsibilities.
39.What solution does the “NO” side propose instead of a ban?
A.Limiting screen time to one hour per day.
B.Requiring parental permission for accounts.
C.Teaching digital literacy skills.
D.Creating a separate social media platform for teenagers.
40.Which part of a website is this passage probably taken from?
A.Sports. B.Entertainment. C.Health & Lifestyle. D.Travel.

Emily Sanders, a 25-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, set out with high hopes of reaching Toronto to meet her boyfriend for Christmas. Although she had heard warnings about an approaching (正在逼近的) snowstorm, she didn’t give it much thought. She assumed (假定,认为) that much like in Michigan, police would simply detour (使绕道) traffic around any closed roads of the highway. But that didn’t happen. As the snow came down more and more heavily, Emily was directed off the highway. She drove on for a while and found herself on an unfamiliar road toward a Canadian town.
The blinding whiteout (白茫天气) made driving nearly impossible. At one point, Emily’s car got stuck. After a struggle (挣扎,努力), she managed to free the vehicle (车辆) and continued inching (缓慢移动) along the snow-covered road. As night fell, panic set in. While Emily was driving on a narrow stretch of road, her car slid into a ditch (沟渠). She tried to call for help but found no signal on her phone. Seeing no hope of immediate help, Emily decided to spend the night in her car. She wrapped herself in a blanket, waiting for morning. To stay warm, she ran her engine for a few minutes every now and then. Eventually, she fell asleep.
Emily awoke to a gentle knock on her car window. Standing outside were Daniel and his wife Rachel, who noticed the stranded (滞留的) vehicle on their way home and stopped to see if they could help. When Emily rolled down the window, Rachel asked if she was okay and told her it was not safe to stay overnight in the car. With genuine warmth in her voice, Rachel said they could take Emily to a nearby cafe they knew. Grateful and relieved, Emily accepted the offer.
In the cafe, the couple bought Emily a hot chocolate and listened patiently as she explained her desperate situation: she was about a hundred miles from her destination, her car was completely stuck, and her entire holiday plan could be ruined.

【答案】26.D 27.A 28.C

由第一段“Just like a messy room makes it hard to find things, a cluttered brain makes it difficult to think clearly”可知,作者将“cluttered brain”与“messy room”进行类比,一个“messy room”(杂乱的房间)会让人难以找到东西,同样地,一个“cluttered brain”会让人难以清晰地思考。因此“cluttered”与“messy”类似,意为“杂乱的/拥挤的”。
30.由第二段“students who turned off their phones while studying completed their work 40% faster than those who kept their phones nearby”可知,学习时关掉手机的学生完成作业更快。
31.由第三段“take a ‘digital break’. Spend 30 minutes a day without any screens—just sit quietly, take a walk, or listen to music”可知,“数字休息”指的是不使用任何电子设备,选项中“坐在公园里不使用任何电子设备”符合。
32.全文介绍了“认知超载”这一概念及其影响,并提出了“单一任务”和“数字休息”两种解决方法,因此主要目的是介绍认知超载并提供解决方案。

【答案】例文
Girls and boys,
With the development of the Internet, many students have smartphones.
Currently, many middle school students are addicted to their smartphones in their spare time. Some students use them in wrong ways. They play phone games in class. They chat with friends during study time. They also watch short videos late at night.
These habits bring bad results. Staying up late hurts their eyes and makes them tired. They can’t focus in class, so their grades drop.
Here are my suggestions. First, use the phone for only one hour a day. Second, do sports with family or classmates, like running or swimming. Third, join a club, such as reading or drawing. Let’s put down phones and live a healthy life!
That’s all. Thank you for listening!
