Inspired(启发) by fairy tales and children's wild imagination, artist Kasing Lung from Hong Kong, China created such an elf-like(像精灵的) character in his book series The Monsters in 2015, along with other monster characters.
Labubu became popular around the world in late 2024 and early 2025. Now it is not only a fictional(虚构的) character but also refers to the whole series, including different characters from its world, such as Zimomo, Tycoco, and Mokoko. Some of these dolls look similar and are hard to tell apart, but-collectors know the difference. The dolls are mainly sold in blind boxes, so you won't know which one you' ll get, making it a surprise.
Both kids and adults have fallen in love with Labubu. In Tokyo, its creative designs inspire young artists. In Bangkok, it has become a symbol of cultural exchange. Across the ocean in New York, fans share their collections and artworks online actively.“Labubu reminds me of childhood in a creative way,” says one of the Labubu fans. “Now my friends and I even design our own monster characters!”
Labubu's success shows how creativity connects people worldwide. Though the joy of opening blind-boxes brings great delight(喜悦), it's important to enjoy them wisely and avoid overspending or compulsive(冲动的) collecting. After all, the real value lies in admiring the art, not just collecting.

A. Why is it important to be creative? B. How do blind box toys become popular?
C. Labubu: Small monster, big creativity D. Kasing Lung: The artist behind popular dolls

No matter who we are, where we are, or what we do, we cannot live without water. It is the source (源泉) of all life and we need it every day. But in truth we’re facing serious water problems.
Although water covers 71 percent of earth’s surface, “We can only use a very small amount of it. Only about 3 percent of the world’s water is fresh water (淡水). A survey from the United Nations shows that there are over 663 million people living without a safe water supply close to home.
To remind people of the importance of water, the UN first established World Water Day in 1993. It is held on March 22 each year. In 2017 the UN raised a theme—“Wastewater”.
According to the UN, wastewater problems make water shortages (短缺) even more serious. Most of the wastewater from our homes, cities and industries goes directly back to nature. Instead of letting it pollute the environment, the industries need to treat it first.
China takes action to deal with water problems, too. From March 22 to 28 is the China Water Week. During this period, the Chinese government starts a “river chiefs (负责人)” project.
Just as every province, city and county (县) has a leader, every river in China will have a chief, too. Local government heads will be river chiefs. They will be responsible for all the rivers and lakes in their places. They need to make sure that industries have already treated the wastewater. And they also need to clean up the polluted waters before they go into nature.
13.Why does the writer mention the survey from the United Nations?
A.To speak highly of the importance of the survey.
B.To tell people we need to make more fresh water.
C.To prove there isn’t much drinking water on earth.
D.To show many people walk a long way to get water.
14.What similar steps have China and the UN taken to solve water problems?
A.Stopping industries from pouring dirty water directly.
B.Doing more surveys about how to save water.
C.Letting governments deal with water problems.
D.Starting World Water Day to stop wasting water.
15.How is the text organized? (①= Paragraph 1,②= Paragraph 2,……)
A. B. C. D.
16.What is the main idea of this text?
A.Most countries fail to solve water problems. B.Countries have taken steps to protect water.
C.China calls on other countries to save water. D.Industries are the main cause for wastewater.

Shi Guangyin is one of the winners of the July 1 Medal (“七一”勋章). He's from a county(县) which lies on the side of the Maowusu Desert. In the past, many local people had to leave the county to keep away from the terrible sandstorms.
In the late 1960s, Shi started planting trees to fight sandstorms in the Maowusu Desert. To buy young trees, he sold almost all his things. He also encouraged villagers to go into Maowusu for a greener future.
However, it was not an easy thing. Nearly 90% of the trees they planted died at first. The villagers were sad and lost heart. But Shi said he would never give up.
In the following years, Shi and his team asked for suggestions from many experts and tried new ways to take care of the young trees. Finally, their hard work paid off. More than 80% of trees grew well in the hostile(恶劣的) environment. The yellow desert gradually turned into green forests. They’ve finally built a “Green Great Wall” of more than 50 kilometers in the desert. Now, the forest coverage in the county has risen from 3.8% in 1980to about 30% today.
“We plan to improve forest quality in the next five years,” Shi said. “By following scientific plans, we will see a more beautiful and greener countryside.”
Shi’s story is more than just planting trees. It's about a man who refused to give up, bringing hope and a green future to his home. His “Green Great Wall” is a symbol of human courage and love for nature. It shows that with great effort, even a desert can bloom and life can be better for everyone.
