This is a system that moves water from the rainy south to the dry north of China. The idea began in the 1950s, and construction (施工) started in 2002. How does it work? There are three main routes (eastern, middle, and western) that use canals, tunnels (隧道), and pipelines (管道) to transfer water over long distances. An amazing fact is that the middle route alone is about 1,432 kilometers long – that's longer than the distance from Beijing to Shanghai! This system provides water for millions of people, helps farms grow crops, and supports factories in northern cities. This project is extremely important because it solves serious water shortages in northern China. It shows how humans can use engineering to balance nature's resources.
