Hi everyone,
My English teacher gave me this question for homework, but I don’t know the answer. Can anyone help me?
“On Mondays, I’m usually at work until / since 7 p.m.”
Which one is correct? Please help!
Thanks.
Maria
At 17:15, RedHarry replied:
The correct answer is until.
Use since to say when something that’s still happening now began.
e.g., I’m at work now. I’ve been working since 7 a.m.
Use until to say when something ends.
e.g., I start work at 7 a.m. and I don’t finish until 7 p.m.
I hope that helps!
Harry
At 17:33, KipJones replied:
You should be able to work out the answer from the tense of the sentence. With since, we usually use the present perfect (have / has + past participle) or present perfect continuous (have / has been + -ing). If the sentence was “I have been at work until / since 7 p. m.,” then the right answer would be since. But in your sentence you’re talking about regular action using the simple present tense (“I’m usually at work…”), so since isn’t possible.

Wang Tongyi, a visitor from Taipei, recently used AI to plan a wonderful tour to Shaanxi. By entering the visiting place, travel dates, cost, and personal interest into an AI app, he quickly got a 7-day travel plan. The plan introduced how to travel, where to visit and which hotel to stay at. It was Wang’s first visit to Shaanxi, and he felt a tour group was too expensive and not free enough. So he tried AI.
There were many places to see and different routes to choose. Based on Wang’s interest in ancient buildings and local food, the AI-planned tour suggested some less famous but cultural places and special food. “It has truly given me unexpected surprises,” Wang said. “The suggested places and routes perfectly fit my taste, giving me a deeper understanding of Shaanxi.”
As travelers want more fun and personal trips, AI “tour guides” have made travel better and easier. They bring new AI technologies to trip planning. For example, “DeepSeek’s 5-day Beijing plan” and “AI-made 2-day Yunnan trip” are popular, topping the list. Experts say AI guides will grow fast in 2026. With 5G and digital technologies, immersive (沉浸式的) experiences across time and space will become the main form of people’s travel.
During a trip, AI can also provide real-time tour guide services. The AI tour guide acts as a careful personal guide, giving explanations of the historical stories, cultural meanings, and special things about the place. In the future, AI tour guides are expected to play a bigger role, making trips even more fun.

In Guangzhou, 310 students from Yuyan Middle School enjoyed a five-day spring break in March. “Also, students can enjoy their spring breaks with their family. It can help bring family members closer together and reduce stress in studying,” said Xinhua.
“However, there are some challenges. Not all parents can take time off when their kids do, so some children may end up staying at home and playing on their phones. Schools also need to find a way to fit all their lessons into the new schedule. To make these breaks work well, the government, schools, parents and communities need to work together,” noted People’s Daily.

Has anyone ever told you that “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”? How about that you might be “jumping from the frying pan into the fire”? What do these sayings have in common? They’re both idioms!
What is an idiom? An idiom is “a group of words in a fixed (固定的) order that has a special meaning that is different from the meanings of each word on its own”. In other words, “Idioms mean something different from the single words.” For example, when someone says “it’s raining cats and dogs”, they don’t mean that there are real dogs and cats falling from the sky. It’s an idiom! The phrase means that it’s raining very heavily.
Why are idioms difficult? Idioms can be found in all languages and cultures in all parts of the world. Translating idioms into other languages can be challenging because some meanings may be lost. That’s why English learners find English idioms strange and hard to understand. You can only understand an idiom by inferring (推断) or asking someone to explain it to you.
Why do we use idioms? We use idioms daily for several reasons. They are not just for fun. They’re an important part of how we communicate: Idioms have been used for centuries to send a deeper, more meaningful message than just that of the words. They are used in everyday conversations and create a sense of fun and humor, making our languages richer and more powerful. The use of idioms can also help to better express thoughts and emotions. However, English idioms are quite common in daily conversations. Knowing their meanings can help you better express yourself and understand others.
Do you want to make up your own idiom? Think about situations you face. Is there something you’re always saying to explain this situation? Come up with a funny, or special saying that you could use!
71. What do the two sayings at the beginning have in common?
They are both _____________________.
72. Why do English learners find English idioms hard to understand?
Because some meanings may ___________________ when translated.
73. How can English learners understand English idioms?
They can infer or ask someone ________________ the idioms to them.
74. Which paragraph can best match the picture on the right?
It’s Paragraph _____________________.
75. Why do we use idioms in the daily life? (List at least one reason according to the text. )
Because we can ________________________________________ by using idioms.

In China, students usually have summer and winter vacations and public holidays. But now, thanks to a government action plan introduced in March, 2025, many schools are adding extra days off. The idea is that some primary and secondary schools could add spring and autumn breaks for students based on their own needs.
In Guangzhou, 310 students from Yuyan Middle School enjoyed a five-day spring break in March. They looked into history and science at sites like the Museum of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and Zhuhai Aerospace Land. “While others are stuck in classrooms, we’re out enjoying ourselves,” one of the students told Xinhua.
Yin Xianwen, Party Chief of the school, sees it as a great way to learn. “Watching plants grow is a lesson in nature, visiting historical sites is a history lesson, and traveling together is a lesson in social skills,” Yin told People’s Daily. “It offers students the chance to get the most precious growth experiences during the most beautiful season.”
28. Where did students from Yuyan Middle School visit during the spring break?
①Zhuhai Aerospace Land. ②Guangdong Science Center.
③The Museum of Dr Sun Yat-sen. ④The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ①②④ D. ②③④
29. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The disadvantages of bringing family members closer.
B. The government’s effort to offer students great breaks.
C. The challenges of the spring and autumn breaks.

51. What do the two sayings at the beginning have in common?
They are both ________________.
52. Why do English learners find English idioms hard to understand?

53. How can English learners understand English idioms?
They can infer or ask someone ________________ the idioms to them.
54. Which paragraph can best match the picture on the right?
It’s Paragraph ________________.
