Hi,it's Zack!Greetings from Paris!Today we're exploring some amazing treasures
in one of the largest museums on Earth-the Louvre!Let's go!
Now,right behind me is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. It looks like she just
flew down from the sky and landed on a ship. Her head and arms are missing, but you
can imagine she's raising her arms in joy after an ancient war.Look how the wind blows
her dress!I can't believe she's made of stone.Amazing,isn't it?
Okay,I'd better move on.Next up is the one and only Mona Lisa. The painting is a
lot smaller, and is protected by glass. But from here I can get a good view to show you.
When I look into her eyes, she seems to have a mind of her own!One moment she
seems to be laughing at me,but then again I catch a sense of sadness in her smile
Perhaps that's why she attracts so many visitors every day

There wasn't a single person on the beach who hadn't heard of CrazyClaws. He
was the greatest enemy of toes on this side of the ocean.Every year,a careless
tourist would get a big pinch from him and never come back again.Scared swimmers
often tried to catch him,but every time they thought they had succeeded, another pinch
told them they had caught the wrong crab.
CrazyClaws was clever but unkind.Unlike other crabs,he would hide in the sand
and prepare his attack. He always got cross easily. As a baby crab,he was stepped on by
a child and lost a leg.It grew back but was shorter than his other legs.Whenever he
looked at it,anger and sadness quickly rose in him.
One day,he noticed a big fat shiny toe hardly moving."Easy!"he thought. He
remembered the pinching steps:come out,move forward,pinch,release,go back,and
disappear into the sand again.Go and get it!"
初三毕业班适应性训练英语第4页(共10页)
Something went wrong, however. He failed in the fourth step and couldn't release
the toe.His pinch was so strong that he broke through the skin-but there was no
blood.It was a trick!
"No one can be that clever!"CrazyClaws cried as always.
The false toe belonged to a girl named Vera. She also lost her leg in an accident
when she was little. She didn't realize her toe was pinched until she came out of the
water.
"Oh,you poor thing!"Vera said.She freed him,but he didn't run away-he was
scared to death.Vera noticed his shorter leg and felt sorry for him,so she wanted to help.
She made him a wonderful little house with rocks and brought him small animals to eat.
"Lovely girl,"CrazyClaws thought that night."I'd like to be just as nice as her.If
only I didn't have this little leg..."
It was at that moment he realized that Vera's leg had never grown back like crabs
She only had one leg,yet she was still kind.He could certainly be a happy crab even
though he had been through very difficult times.
The very next day and every day after that summer,CrazyClaws attacked Vera's
toe again-but just to play.Together they learned to turn pinches into tickles, and
anger into laughter.

(D)
Hi,I'm Arno.I'm one of the aquanauts who love water and make sure there is
enough water for everyone in space!
During our space travel, water is needed for many purposes. Our astronauts need
about 3 litres of water every day for drinking and preparing food, and another 4 litres
for personal cleaning, such as hand washing.Water is also used for cooling machines
down and producing electricity.Once we travel further and stay longer there,we need
water to do something more than usual-grow crops and other kinds of food.
However,we can only carry a certain amount of water to space.Using water in
space becomes a great challenge. We can't afford to waste even a drop of it.That's why
we've been working with astronauts to find ways to fully use it.One good example is
growing vegetables in space. As you can imagine, this is quite difficult, because crops
behave differently in low gravity. They take in water in a different way.To solve this,
we use special bags. These bags stop the water from floating away,so plants can easily
take in the water they need. This method works well for leafy vegetables.
What other ways can we get water in space?Well,we've found a way to collect
water from the shower, the astronaut's sweat, breath and even urine().All collected
water passes through several filters to clean out harmful materials.A special machine is
also used to clear away the dirt that remains. Then, other machines check whether the
water is clean enough. If not,it should be cleaned again. Each day,the International
Space Station produces 136 litres of safe drinking water.Scientists say this water is
even cleaner than tap water on Earth.Isn't it amazing?
These are what being an aquanaut is all about. We find new ways to live with the
water we have. Our great effort will help astronauts reach Mars and beyond. One day,
the same ideas might help people on Earth too. After all, water connects us all, whether
we are at home or floating among the stars!
37.What is the special use of water on long space trips
A.Drinking and making meals.
B.Cooling machines and producing power.
C.Washing hands and body cleaning.
D.Planting crops and vegetables.
38.Why are special bags used in space?
A.To help plants get water.
B.To help plants grow differently
C.To clean the water for planting.
D.To change the gravity in space.
39.How do aquanauts help get water for astronauts in space?
A.By producing water.
B.By recycling dirty water.
C.By collecting Earth water.
D.By searching for water.
初三毕业班适应性训练英语第7页(共10页)
40.What's the purpose of this passage?
A.To encourage space vegetable planting
B.To explain the full use of water in space.
C.To improve the aquanauts'work in space.
D.To call on people to find more fresh water.

In 2013,Honghe Hani Rice Terraces became a UNESCO
World Heritage Site. These beautiful lands have hidden deep
in the Ailao Mountains of Yunnan for a long time.41
Honghe Hani Rice Terraces spread across a large
mountain area. The height changes greatly from the bottoms
to 2,000 meters high.42 There are silver mirrors in
spring,bright green in summer,gold in autumn,and soft
white mist in winter.
43 Ancient forests at the mountain tops catch cloud and rainwater, then
send it down through bamboo pipes to waiting farmers below. The villages in the
middle sit peacefully between sky and earth. The golden rice fields below feed Hani
people while giving homes to birds, fish, and frogs that eat harmful insects.44
Everything can find its place here.
But long ago, when Hani people first came to this mountain area, farming was very
difficult. There wasn't enough flat land. The mountain soil was thin and rain was heavy.
However,Hani people were real geniuses.45 Then they cut the land into
terraces, built walls, and let the rich water from the forests run into the fields. In this
way, more spaces were created.More water and soil could be kept in the flat steps.
Today,Hani people continue to keep their traditions alive.Parents teach children
how to care for the terraces, just as their grandparents taught them.
A.Nothing is wasted.
B.They finally catch people's eyes.
C.They amaze people with their changing beauties.
D.They watched the land and weather very carefully.
E.The terraces show perfect balance between people and nature.

参考范文1:
A problem I solved
Last term,I often found it difficult to remember new words shortly after learning them. This
made me feel worried, especially before English tests.
To solve it,I turned to my English teacher for help. She told me unless I fully understood and
used a word correctly,I couldn't really master it.So,I started to explain new words in my own words.
For some difficult ones,I also imagined a picture in my mind to help memorize them better. After all,a
picture is worth a thousand words.Besides,my friend and I made a fun game.Every day,we used the
words we learned to create a short story and wrote it on small cards.
Thankfully,I remember new words much better now.My vocabulary grew quickly and I become
more confident in English tests.I learned that learning is not just about working harder, but working
smarter. When facing difficulties,we should bravely find ways to solve them.
参考范文2:
A problem I solved
Last month,my classmates and I had a big problem. We were busy preparing for the school art
festival, but our group leader got sick and couldn't continue. All of us felt worried and didn't know
what to do next.
To solve this problem,we decided to work together as a team.We had a short meeting to share
the tasks instead of depending on the leader, and then we made a new plan. Some were responsible for
the music, some took care of the dancing, and I helped with the costumes. We practised together every
day after school and encouraged each other when someone made mistakes.
In the end,our performance was a great success. From this experience,I learn that teamwork is
the key to success. As long as everyone does their part,a difficult problem can be solved easily.
