A report shows that each year we produce about 150 million tons of city waste in China. Where does the waste go? People usually burn or bury it. We also receive waste from some developed countries. We get useful materials from it. What about the useless part? Still burned or buried. But is it a proper way?
Waste pollutes the environment, harms people’s health and causes animals to die. It also gets in the way of green and sustainable development. We can’t make money at the cost of the environment. We should leave clean water and green mountains to our next generations.
China is getting really serious about waste now.
We are importing less waste from developed countries. From January 2018, China started to stop 24 kinds of waste coming into our country. And more laws and rules about dealing with waste have been made. Anyone who breaks the law will be punished.
China also tries to put waste into good use. One example is the waste-to-energy factories. They burn waste to make electricity in a green way. No harmful gases or wastewater will be released into the environment.
The Chinese government is encouraging people to separate waste into different groups. Cities like Shanghai, Chongqing and Beijing have their own sorting systems. More will join them soon. More and more people are developing the habit of separating their waste.

Can dogs and cats get along well in the same home? People who are thinking about getting a dog as a friend for their cat are worried that they will fight. A study finds that if the cat is taken back home before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly possible that the two pets will get along well. In two-thirds of the homes cats and dogs have a good relationship.
However, it wasn’t all sweetness and light. There was coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression (好斗) and fighting were found in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different. For example, when a cat turns its head away it means aggression while a dog doing the same means submission (顺从).
In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers found something surprising. They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “Dog”, and dogs can learn how to talk “Cat”.
What’s interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to become smarter. They can learn to read each other’s body languages, showing that the two may have more in common (共同的) than we thought. Once they understand each other’s body language, cats and dogs can play together, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa.
The importance of this research on cats and dogs may go more than pets-to people who don’t get along well, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even countries. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, why can’t people do?
32.Some cats and dogs may fight when ________ .
A.they are cold to each other B.they look away from each other
C.they don’t understand each other’s body languages D.they are introduced at an early age
33.What is found surprising about cats and dogs?
A.They eat and sleep together. B.They watch each other’s behaviors.
C.They learn to speak each other’s language. D.They know something from each other’s voices.
34.According to Paragraph 4, cats and dogs ________.
A.have common interests B.are less different than we thought
C.have a common body language D.are not so smart as was expected
35.What can we learn from cats and dogs?
A.We should learn to get along well with others B.We should know more about animals.
C.We should live in peace with animals. D.We should learn more body languages.

One night, when I was eight, my mother asked me a question I would never forget. “Sweetie, my company wants to promote me but needs me to work in Brazil. This is like your teacher telling you that you’ve done well and allowing you to skip (跳) a grade, but you’ll have to leave your friends. Would you say yes to your teacher? ” She gave me a hug and asked me to think about it. I was lost in thought. The question kept me wondering for the rest of the night. I had said “Yes” but for the first time, I realized the difficult decisions adults had to make.
For almost four years, my mother would call us from Brazil every day. Every evening I’d eagerly wait for the phone to ring and tell her everything that happened during the day. A phone call, however, could never take her place and it was difficult not to feel lonely at times.
During my fourth-grade Christmas break, we flew to Rio to visit her. Looking at her large empty apartment, ▲ It was then I started to understand the difficult decisions she had to make. She needed to think about both family and work. Faced with difficult decisions, she used to tell me, you wouldn’t know whether you made the right choice, but you could always make the best out of the situation, with a positive (积极的) attitude.
Back home, I reminded myself that whatever my mother could do, I could do too. If she could live in Rio all by herself, I, too, could learn to be independent. I learned how to take care of myself and make high but achievable plans.
My mother is now back with us. But I will never forget what the experience has really taught me. I’ve learned a lot because of this separation (分离). There are lots of difficult decisions that we have to face in our life. We need to have a positive attitude no matter what happens.
36.What’s the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.The writer missed her mother and felt lonely.
B.The writer waited for her mother’s phone every evening.
C.The writer’s mother stayed in Brazil for almost four years.
D.The writer was happy to tell her mother everything that happened.
37.Which of the following sentences can be put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 3?
A.I thought my mother might regret her decision.
B.I thought my mother might want to go home with us.
C.I realized how lonely my mother was in Brazil by herself.
D.I realized my mother had a happy time in Brazil herself.
38.What does the writer most probably want to tell us?
A.Keep a positive attitude towards the separation.
B.Don’t be afraid of making decisions.
C.Try to stay negative no matter what happens.
D.There are always two sides to everything.

Teen mental health has become one of the hottest social topics in 2026. Today, teenagers are facing more stress than before. Heavy study pressure from endless exams and homework makes more and more teenagers feel worried, stressed and lonely. Some even lose interest in their favorite things and stay in bad moods for a long time. Luckily, teachers, parents and the whole society are working together to help teenagers keep a healthy mind and live a happy life.
Nowadays, nearly every middle school has professional (专业的) mental health teachers. They are patient and well-trained to listen to students’ problems. Students can safely talk about their worries, exam stress, friendship or family problems with these teachers in a safe and private (私密的) environment and get useful, warm advice in private. This safe way lets them speak out their feelings freely, so they don’t have to face difficulties alone. These teachers may advise them to join in some meaningful activities to relax, such as stress-relief games and small psychological lectures Through these activities, students can learn to know their feelings better.
What can teenagers themselves do? First, it’s important to keep a healthy daily routine-sleep at least 8 hours each night and exercise for 30 minutes every day. Good rest and daily exercise build strong bodies and clear minds, which help us fight against bad feelings. Second, talk to parents or close friends when feeling upset. Don’t keep bad feelings to yourself. Sharing true feelings can take away much pressure and make your heart much lighter.
A new survey in 2026 shows that about 78% of teens feel more positive after trying these ways. Asking for help is not a shame (羞愧), but a brave and wise choice for every teenager. Mental health is as important as physical health. With care from families, schools and society, as well as our own good habits, teens can stay away from negative moods and grow up happily and healthily.
43.Who works together to help teenagers keep healthy and live happily?
44.How do mental health teachers help students besides listening to and talking with them?
45.What is a brave and wise choice for every teenager?
46.What other ways can you think of to help solve mental health problems? Write 30 words or more.

A./'dɪveləpmənt/ B./dɪ'veləpmənt/ C./də'veləpmənt/ D./dəvelə'pmənt/

A
An old man walked slowly with a cane (手杖) into the restaurant. His old jacket, worn-out shoes and warm personality made him different from the usual crowd.
A young waitress watched him move toward a table by the window. She ran over to him and said, “Here, sir…let me help you with that chair.”
Without saying a word, he smiled and nodded (点头) a thank you. She pulled the chair away from the table and helped him sit. Then she put his cane against the table.
“Thank you, Miss,” he said kindly.
“You're welcome, Sir,” she said.
After he had finished his breakfast, the waitress brought him the change (零钱) from his bill. He left it on the table. She helped him up and walked with him to the front door.

28.The writer starts the passage by ________.
A.telling stories B.making comparisons C.raising questions D.giving suggestions
29.The underlined word “sustainable” in Paragraph 2 means “ ________ ” in Chinese.

31.The structure of the passage may be ________.
A. B. C. D.
【答案】28.C 29.B 30.D 31.A

29.根据第二段“It also gets in the way of green and sustainable development...green mountains to our next generations.”
30.根据第三段“China is getting really serious about waste now.”

【答案】32.C 33.C 34.B 35.A
第二段指出“One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different. For example, when a cat turns its head away it means aggression while a dog doing the same means submission.”,猫狗打架的一个原因是它们无法理解彼此不同的肢体语言。
33.第三段指出“In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers found something surprising. They are learning how to talk each other’s language.”,研究里令人惊讶的发现是它们会学习对方的交流方式。
34.第四段指出“showing that the two may have more in common than we thought”,more in common代表二者差异比我们想象得更小。
35.最后一段指出“If cats and dogs can learn to get along well, why can’t people do?”,文章借猫狗能学会和睦相处,启示人类也要学会和他人友好共处。

【答案】36.A 37.C 38.A
根据第二段“Every evening I’d eagerly wait for the phone to ring and tell her everything that happened during the day. A phone call, however, could never take her place and it was difficult not to feel lonely at times.”
37.根据前文“Looking at her large empty apartment”和后文“It was then I started to understand the difficult decisions she had to make.”
38.根据文章结尾“There are lots of difficult decisions that we have to face in our life. We need to have a positive attitude no matter what happens.”及文中母亲的教导“you wouldn’t know whether you made the right choice, but you could always make the best out of the situation, with a positive attitude”可知,作者最想传递的核心观点是面对生活中的困难(包括与家人的分离),要始终保持积极的态度,对应选项A。

42 It’s also a great way to explore new cultures, meet new people and open our minds to the world around us. By working with local people on community projects, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the places you visit and learn some valuable life skills.

A.It’s important to do your research.
B.But volunteer travel isn’t just about helping others.
C.If so, volunteer travel could be a good choice for you.
D.It’s a great way to make new friends around the world.

E项“It can last anywhere from a few days to several months.”

B项“But volunteer travel isn’t just about helping others.”
