Leaves will soon make their gradual change to vivid colors of yellow, orange and red as we head through the fall months, but when you can usually expect peak color to arrive depends on where you live.
When Will Fall Leaves Peak For You?
— Late September or Early October: The Rockies, the northern parts of Minnesota through Michigan and a stretch from upstate New York to northern New England see peak color first.
— Mid to Late October: Potential for peak fall color advances through the Midwest into the Appalachians and much of the Northeast in mid to late October. Most other areas in the western region, including valleys, see fall’s brightest color by this time of year as well.
— November: Much of the mid-Atlantic coast and the South are the last holdouts to see peak color in November.
Why Do Leaves Change Color?
A shorter amount of daylight is the primary factor for the color of the leaves to begin to change. As nights grow longer and cooler, production of the green pigment (色素) slows and eventually stops. This allows the yellow and orange pigments to shine through, revealing the many beautiful colors of fall.
What Makes A Good Colorful Season?
Location matters:
Higher altitudes and northern latitudes cool first, causing earlier color changes.
Weather’s role:
The perfect recipe includes warm, sunny days paired with cool nighttime temperatures.
Soil moisture (湿度):
Sufficient soil moisture through spring and summer can help increase the chances of the colorful leaves.
Wind warning:
If a strong windstorm affects an area that’s near peak color, then it can tear off leaves from trees to some extent, reducing the display of peak color.
So grab your camera, plan your trip, and get ready for nature’s colorful delight!
21. When can you enjoy peak fall color in valleys of the western region?
A. Late September. B. Early October. C. Late October. D. Mid November.
22. What mainly causes the change of leaf colors?
A. Rainy nights in autumn. B. Reduced daylight hours.
C. Uncovered pigments. D. Rising temperature.
23. What may ruin the full display of peak color?
A. The wet soil. B. The tree species.
C. The hot summer. D. The severe storm.

I’m Thomas from the United Kingdom, working in Beijing, and I’m a shopping addict (迷). The main source of my addiction is Taobao, China’s massive online shopping platform — a place for everything from clothes to books, and everything in between. It makes Amazon look like a corner shop.
My favorite is mostly books and different kinds of water bottles. My cupboard has a shelf full of them, many of which my size will no longer allow me to crowd into.
What’s worse is that the app’s very clever algorithms (算法) track what I look through, so every time I open it on my phone, I am greeted by an advertisement inviting me to dip deeper into my digital wallet. I don’t even have to open the app. They are available to purchase with just a tap of my finger.
Once you make an order, you need to wait. The shipping gives your heart a little hit. Then there’s another little rush of endorphins (内啡肽) when the delivery person picks it up. You watch your package edging its way up the map to Beijing. When the app tells you it’s on the delivery bike, the same excitement as a kid on Christmas morning takes hold as you wait for the knock at the door. Much like a little dog waiting for its master to return home from work.
The packaging is eagerly removed, exciting another hit of happiness. An hour later, the buyer’s regret comes. To make yourself feel better, you start using the app once more and the cycle starts all over again.
I could blame (责备) my addiction on Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, Taobao’s parent company, or point a finger at Liu Qiangdong, founder of JD, a similarly addictive domestic shopping app. I could even blame Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who started all this e-commerce.
“Surely, Thomas,” I hear you ask, “instead of blaming poor billionaires, you should take responsibility for your own sudden desire and lack of willpower.”
24. Why is Thomas crazy about Taobao?
A. It helps bring in money. B. He prefers online platforms.
C. It offers multiple item options. D. Amazon is too distant to access.
25. How can Thomas’s phone know what he prefers?
A. His digital wallet pays for it automatically.
B. He searches online when he opens the phone.
C. He communicates with the Taobao business owner.
D. The app’s algorithms follow his digital footprints.
26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The author’s expectation of the purchased item. B. The challenges of online shopping.
C. The long journey of a purchased item. D. The accuracy of the shopping app.
27. What does the author want to convey in this passage?
A. We should say no to e-commerce. B. We should blame Taobao.
C. We should be responsible for our purchasing. D. We should admire billionaires.
C
Winter is over, so chances are you’re ready for some major spring cleaning or cleansing. Whether you plan to clean your bedroom or wipe the windows, don’t forget to tidy up the kitchen! According to a study, a messy cooking space can lead to overeating.
As part of the study, 101 female students were put in standard kitchen and messy kitchen environments and were asked to write about a time when they felt in control or out of control. Next, they were given cookies, crackers and carrots. Students in the “messy kitchen” who wrote about feeling out of control ate about twice as many cookies as the people in the in-control situation.
The researchers found that a messy environment can actually make people more likely to eat unhealthy foods, but the person’s mindset (思维倾向) within that environment can either trigger or protect against overeating. In the messy kitchen, women who wrote about a time when they felt in control consumed fewer cookie calories than the women who wrote about being out of control.
As the researchers pointed out, our mindset affects whether we will overeat unhealthy foods while in a messy kitchen. If we go into the kitchen with an “in-control” attitude, we might not eat as many cookies. But then again, why not try out cleaning up the kitchen and see what it does?
Everything that feeds you doesn’t come on a plate such as your relationships, physical activity, and spirituality. Your home environment is also a big part of that nourishment (营养). So whether you tidy up your kitchen or your living room, paying attention to your living space (just like your diet!) can have a positive effect on health.
28. Why were the students asked to write if they were feeling in control or not?
A. To make them stay long in the kitchen.
B. To see the effect of the mindset on eating.
C. To learn if they could choose the right amount of food to eat.
D. To find out the relationship between the environment and mindsets.
29. What does the underlined word “trigger” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Break up. B. Hold back. C. Set off. D. Depend on.
30. What suggestion does the author give?
A. Keeping your living space clean.
B. Staying away from unhealthy food.
C. Finding suitable ways to stay healthy.
D. Protecting yourself against overeating.
31. What is the passage probably taken from?
A. News story B. Research report
C. Government document D. Advertisement
D
Do you often use the words “tapestry”, “delve” or “testament” in English? Many of us would say no. These words aren’t among the “Top 500 spoken words” — a list of the most common English words. However, these words are becoming more common in some written content, as a study in 2024 found that five percent of all articles published on a research site used the word “delve”. In 2022, it was less than one percent.
Since ChatGPT was released to the public in November 2022, we’ve seen that artificial intelligence (AI) favors certain words. Why does ChatGPT prefer these words? The answer is actually very human. While ChatGPT seems to think for itself, what it really does is analyze a very large amount of human-generated (生成) information, and use the data to spit out answers to our enquiry (询问). It doesn’t actually understand what it’s telling us.
The process of rating AI responses, as part of training the software, is called “reinforcement (强化) learning from human feedback (反馈)”, and this provides the first clue about why ChatGPT favors certain words. It’s not cheap to employ a lot of testers to rate thousands of responses from AI. So, big companies outsource (外包) these jobs to lower-income countries, often places where English is not the first language. One such country that offers cheap labor is Nigeria, and in Nigerian English, “delve” is a common word in professional settings. So, when Nigerian testers tell AI which responses sound natural, their own language use preferences come through.
As AI-generated content becomes more common, will it also affect the way we speak to each other? In some ways, AI has already left its mark. Of course, language is a living thing, often affected by current events and by new technology. The point is that language is always updating itself, and how we use language is affected by the people we talk to and by the media we consume. As AI-generated media spreads, it is possible, even likely that AI will affect the development of our own vocabulary.
32. What can we know about the word “delve”?
A. It is created and popularized by AI users. B. It is widely used in daily spoken English.
C. It is listed in the “Top 500 spoken words”. D. It has become more popular in written content.
33. Why does Chat GPT prefer certain words?
A. It is trained based on human feedback.
B. It understands the real meaning of the words.
C. It is designed to use difficult words on purpose.
D. It learns these words mainly from native English speakers.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards AI’s influence on language?
A. Objective B. Doubtful C. Uncaring D. Critical
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Development of AI Technology B. AI Is Reshaping Human Language Use
C. The Popularity of Spoken English Words D. AI Training Affects Reinforcement Learning

David, a primary school student, worked as a volunteer at the soup kitchen in his community park. It was another Saturday, and David was busy working alongside other volunteers, distributing food to the homeless. Towards the end of the volunteer shift, Jack — the head volunteer, sighed, “Without more donations, we might not have enough to feed them next month.” When David heard this, his heart tightened. A heavy sense of worry settled in him as he wondered what he could do to help the homeless. Suddenly he spotted dozens of aluminum (铝) cans thrown near the soup kitchen. A brilliant idea flashed through his mind: “What if I collect and sell these cans to the scrap (废弃的 )metal dealer to raise money for the soup kitchen?”
Upon finishing his work, David hurried home. Excitement mixed with determination grew inside him as he rushed to share his idea with his parents. To his delight, they were both quick to support him. The next day, David started visiting businesses near his home - cafes, shops and offices with a big smile, politely asking for any spare aluminum cans to collect for charity fundraising. Surprisingly, most businesses agreed. And by the end of the week, he had collected hundreds of cans and piled them up in his family’s garage (车库)!
The following Saturday morning, as David sorted through the cans, a new worry washed over him. They took up far more space than he’d expected, like a mountain. The garage was already crowded, and there was simply no room for more. He frowned, deep in thought, “How could I make them smaller to save space?” Kicking an empty can in frustration, he watched it roll toward his dad’s car. Just then, he remembered that once, by accident, how a car tire had crushed (挤压) a can completely flat.
“That’s it!” he breathed, a warm light of hope returning to his eyes.
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;

B.He thinks they are all predictable.
C.He dislikes the way they are presented.
【答案】11.B 12.B 13.C
W: So, Richard, tell us about what got you started as an independent filmmaker.
M: From an early age, I enjoyed watching films and was fascinated by directing and photography. But it never occurred to me that I could do it myself until one day I picked up my father's camera and started recording what was happening around me every day. I then worked at a local video shop that had a section of unclassifiable films. These films made up their own rules and always left me feeling as if something inside me had changed. They also proved that the medium of film could change someone's views of the world, and that made me more determined to pursue filmmaking.
W: And yet you claim that you don't make art films.
M: Even though I want to make this type of film, it is easy to produce a bad one. More importantly, I just want to express my message through understandable films using pictures and music, but not some abstract art concepts. By the way, I am not interested in art films that follow a predictable pattern.

M: World sleep day was organized since 2008. It is held on March 21st every year. It aims to highlight the importance of good sleep and raise awareness of how sleep determines our everyday lives.
Now, a world first study from the University of South Australia shows that increased physical activities during the day improve sleep quality and reduce tiredness, emphasizing the importance of exercise for a good night’s rest. The study found that children and adults with higher levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity have less troubled sleep and better sleep quality.
In general, adults are thought to need at least eight hours of sleep a night, but a recent survey found that on workdays, only 21% of them really get a full eight hours of sleep. For teenagers, a healthy amount is about eight to nine hours per night. However, 27% of people throughout the world have sleep problems. Now, there are over 80 kinds of sleep disorders, and most people know little about their danger. So, for our good life and work, it’s necessary for us to realize the importance of sleep and try to have a good sleep.

C 22. B 23. D

C 25. D 26. A 27. C
根据第一段“The main source of my addiction is Taobao, China’s massive online shopping platform — a place for everything from clothes to books, and everything in between. It makes Amazon look like a corner shop.(我上瘾的主要来源是淘宝,中国庞大的在线购物平台——从衣服到书籍,应有尽有。它让亚马逊看起来像一家街角小店)”可知,Thomas对淘宝如此着迷是因为淘宝提供了多种多样的商品选择。
25. 细节理解题。根据第三段“What’s worse is that the app’s very clever algorithms (算法) track what I look through, so every time I open it on my phone, I am greeted by an advertisement inviting me to dip deeper into my digital wallet.(更糟糕的是,这款应用极其精明的算法会追踪我的浏览内容。因此,每次我在手机上打开它,都会看到一个广告,邀请我进一步掏空我的数字钱包)”可知,应用程序的算法会跟踪Thomas的数字足迹,从而知道他的偏好。
26. 段落大意题。根据第四段“Once you make an order, you need to wait. Much like a little dog waiting for its master to return home from work.(一旦你下了订单,就需要等待。发货过程会让你的心跳微微加速。当快递员取件时,内啡肽又会带来一阵小小的兴奋。你看着自己的包裹在地图上一点点向北京移动。当应用提示它已在派送途中时,你会像圣诞早晨的孩子一样兴奋,等待着敲门声响起。就像一只小狗等待主人下班回家)”可知,本段主要描述了Thomas对所购商品的期待和兴奋心情,从下单到等待送货的整个过程都充满了期待。
27. 推理判断题。根据最后一段““Surely, Thomas,” I hear you ask, “instead of blaming poor billionaires, you should take responsibility for your own sudden desire and lack of willpower.”(“当然,托马斯,”我听到你问,“与其责怪那些可怜的亿万富翁,不如为你自己突然的欲望和缺乏意志力负责。”)”

B 29. C 30. A 31. B
根据第二段中“As part of the study, 101 female students were put in standard kitchen and messy kitchen environments and were asked to write about a time when they felt in control or out of control. (作为研究的一部分,101名女学生被安排在标准的厨房和凌乱的厨房环境中,并被要求写下她们在控制或失去控制时的感受)”和“Students in the “messy kitchen” who wrote about feeling out of control ate about twice as many cookies as the people in the in-control situation. (在“凌乱的厨房”中,那些写下感觉失控的学生吃的饼干大约是处于控制状态的学生的两倍)”可知,实验通过让学生记录“控制感”或“失控感”来观察心态对进食行为的影响。故选B项。
29. 词义猜测题。根据画线词的下文“In the messy kitchen, women who wrote about a time when they felt in control consumed fewer cookie calories than the women who wrote about being out of control. (在凌乱的厨房里,那些描述自己处于控制状态的女性比那些描述自己处于失控状态的女性摄入的饼干卡路里要少)”可知,“控制感”或“失控感”两种不同的心态对应不同的进食行为,因此人的心态是既可以触发暴饮暴食,也可以防止暴饮暴食,画线词意思应该是“触发”,与Set off“引发”意思一致。故选C项。
30. 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Your home environment is also a big part of that nourishment (营养). So whether you tidy up your kitchen or your living room, paying attention to your living space (just like your diet!) can have a positive effect on health. (你的居家环境同样是这种营养的重要组成部分。因此,无论是整理厨房还是打扫客厅,关注你的生活空间(就像关注你的饮食一样!)都能对健康产生积极影响)”可推知,作者的建议是保持生活空间整洁。故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“According to a study, a messy cooking space can lead to overeating. (根据一项研究显示,杂乱的厨房环境可能会导致暴饮暴食)”可知,文章围绕一项科学研究展开,描述了实验过程,引用了研究数据,并给出结论分析,建议读者整理生活环境来促进健康。因此,文章应该出自研究报告。故选B项。
D 33. A 34. A 35. B
根据第一段中的“However, these words are becoming more common in some written content, as a study in 2024 found that five percent of all articles published on a research site used the word “delve”.(然而,这些词汇在一些书面内容中变得越来越常见。2024年的一项研究发现,在一个研究网站上发布的所有文章中,有5%使用了“delve”这个词)”可知,“delve”这个词在书面语中的使用频率有所增加。
33. 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The process of rating AI responses, as part of training the software, is called “reinforcement (强化) learning from human feedback (反馈)”, and this provides the first clue about why ChatGPT favors certain words.(在对人工智能的回应进行评级的过程中(这是软件训练的一部分),这一过程被称为“基于人类反馈的强化学习”,这为了解ChatGPT偏爱某些特定词汇提供了第一个线索)”可知,Chat GPT会倾向于使用某些特定的词汇是因为它是根据人类的反馈进行训练的。
根据最后一段中的“In some ways, AI has already left its mark. Of course, language is a living thing, often affected by current events and by new technology. The point is that language is always updating itself, and how we use language is affected by the people we talk to and by the media we consume. As AI-generated media spreads, it is possible, even likely that AI will affect the development of our own vocabulary.(在某些方面,人工智能已经留下了其印记。当然,语言是一种鲜活的事物,往往会受到当前事件和新技术的影响。关键在于语言总是在不断更新,而我们使用语言的方式也会受到与我们交流的人以及我们所消费的媒体的影响。随着由人工智能生成的媒体的传播,有可能(甚至很可能会)人工智能会影响我们自身的词汇发展)”可知,作者对于人工智能对语言的影响持客观态度。
35. 主旨大意题。根据第二段“Since ChatGPT was released to the public in November 2022, we’ve seen that artificial intelligence (AI) favors certain words. Why does ChatGPT prefer these words? The answer is actually very human. While ChatGPT seems to think for itself, what it really does is analyze a very large amount of human-generated (生成) information, and use the data to spit out answers to our enquiry (询问). It doesn’t actually understand what it’s telling us.(自2022年11月ChatGPT向公众发布以来,我们发现人工智能(AI)倾向于使用某些特定的词汇。

Imagine a huge, beautiful island that has just become ____56____ special “shopping and business park” for the whole world. This is ____57____ happened to the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), the world’s largest FTP by area. On December 18, 2025, island-wide special customs operations ____58____ (launch) officially. Don’t let the big words confuse you — this doesn’t mean the island is closed. It actually means Hainan is now ____59____ (open) to the world than ever before.
Think of it like this: the island is now a unique “world” with two “lines”. The “First Line” is between Hainan and foreign ____60____ (country). Here, most goods from overseas can enter Hainan with zero tariffs (关税). The “Second Line” is between Hainan and the Chinese mainland. This line ____61____ (make) sure that the special tax-free goods stay in Hainan’s “world” and are managed properly.
This smart system, ____62____ (describe) as “freer access at the First Line and regulated access at the Second Line”, allows goods, money, and people to move more freely. This helps businesses save a lot of money and grow ____63____ (sustainable).
Why is this so important? At a time when some nations are creating more trade barriers, China is opening a huge door wider. Hainan, ____64____ the full support of China’s vast market, aims to be a leading gateway for China’s opening-up in the new era. It’s not just about doing shopping; it’s about establishing a stable, transparent and predictable institutional system ____65____ (attract) high-end resources from around the world in the future.
56. a 57. what 58. were launched 59. more open 60. countries

故填a。
故填what。
故填were launched。
根据句中的than ever before 可知,此处应用形容词的比较级形式,open的比较级为more open。故填more open。
的支持下”,应用介词with,with the full support of为固定搭配,表示“在……的全力支持下”。故填with。
故填to attract。

72. According to the expert, the building has a long history ________ (date) back to the early Tang Dynasty.
73. Children, when ________ (accompany) by their parents, are allowed to enter the stadium.
74. Traffic lights are there to guide traffic in an ____ (order) way.
故填orderly/ordered。

David rushed to find his dad and begged him for help. “Dad, can you use your car to crush the cans? They take up too much space!” His father nodded, and together they headed for the garage. David set about sorting the cans into neat piles, and then his dad drove slowly over each pile to flatten them. After packing all the cans, they drove to the scrap metal firm to sell them. With the$100 from the dealer, David felt a genuine satisfaction and asked his dad to drop him off at the community park.
Holding the $100 he’d earned, David hurried to the soup kitchen. Pushing open the door, David stepped inside and headed directly towards Jack who was busy distributing food. He held out the money and said, “Jack, I’ve collected cans to raise $100 for our charity.” Jack stepped forward in surprise, hugged him and took the money gently. “It’s so kind of you, David! Your help will make a real difference to the homeless!” Surrounded by the volunteers’ admiring looks, David felt his chest well with warmth. It turned out to be another fulfilling Saturday for him.
