The Chinese Zodiac (生肖) is a 12-year cycle. It follows the lunar calendar, and each year has a special animal symbol. Different from the Western calendar, which begins the new year on January 1st and is based on the sun, the Chinese New Year comes on a different day every year. This is because the lunar calendar is based on the moon’s cycles.
Each year has a different zodiac animal. Every animal has its own special personality traits (特征). People born in that year are thought to have these traits. These traits can help us know about their advantages and future lives. That is probably why people usually talk about their own zodiac animals.
No one knows the exact date that the Chinese Zodiac was created, but ancient texts show that it is over 2,000 years old. It has such a long history that any Chinese kid can tell you a few stories about it. The most famous story about its origin (来源) is “the legend (传说) of the Great Race”.
The result of the Great Race decided the Chinese Zodiac order. The kind Ox was supposed to be the No.1, but the smart Rat got the first place with its quick thinking. The brave and powerful Tiger arrived after the Ox. Although the horse was good at running, it got the seventh place in the race. The lucky Pig knew it was slow, so it started late. Even so, it still got the last place in the zodiac cycle.

①More than 100,000 people cheered at the exciting moment when 3,000 drones (无人机) flew over Chaotianmen on New Year’s Eve. The 15-minute drone show had 300 million views online.
②In fact, drones are easy to control. People send orders to the control system. Rotors (旋翼) push against the air to make the drone rise or stay in the air. By changing the angle (角度) and the speed of different rotors, the drone flies in all directions.
③Drones can complete difficult and special tasks in a quick and useful way. After an earthquake, drones can fly over blocked roads to look for lost people or record any possible danger. Reaching the mountain village by road may take several hours, but drones provide information in just a few minutes. For weak wildlife populations, drones can show where poachers are hiding and if they are carrying guns. At night, drones with cameras can easily find them in the dark.
④Drones also bring convenience to the public. For example, at a sports event, drones are used to give a view from above or help coaches see how their players are doing.
⑤In a word, drones have been widely used in environmental protection, transportation, farming, and so on, with more fields on the way.
⑥Drones are cheaper, more useful and less dangerous than planes, so flying drones has become an important part of developing the low-altitude economy (低空经济). DJI is a famous leader in this field. And now more new and creative companies are coming out as well. At the end of last year, there were nearly 1.27 million registered (注册) drones across the country. The drone industry is believed to be full of chances and possibilities.

Nowadays, reading has become a very important part of many people’s lives. Here is some useful information about reading. Nine out of 10 people love books that they choose by themselves, and these people read more. Besides, rereading helps improve people’s reading ability and understanding.
Should you read a book more than once? Some like new books, while others love rereading old ones. Books are just like people. Some you meet once and that’s enough. Some you want to get to know better, and whenever you are with them you will discover more about them. Last week, we surveyed 1,000 readers on this question. 72% said yes to rereading books, and 28% said no. Here are different opinions.
Fu Xing, a student
Books aren’t like films or songs. Reading a book takes time. Why waste time reading books you have already read? If you keep reading the same book, you may lose the chance to learn new or different stories. Even worse, you won’t make progress as a reader.
Amy, a teacher
People notice new details and understand the themes differently every time they read a book again. People get more pleasure when rereading, especially as they get older. Reading something at the age of 10 is different from reading it at the age of 15.
John, a writer
Instead of rereading something, it’s a good choice to give your book to someone, so they can enjoy it for the first time. You can discuss it later and see what they thought. You might think about the book differently after hearing a fresh opinion.
Wei Guo, a blogger (博主)
Many people find it hard to choose books that interest them. Because of this, it’s better for them to reread the same book than to give up reading. Book lovers say that rereading can bring more comfort and joy. So it doesn’t matter if you’re reading it for the first time or the fifth.
