Reading for Writing
Write a page in a wellness book
A high school class has a wellness book in which they exchange ideas about health and fitness.("介词(in)+关系代词(which)"引导的定语从句,修饰a wellness book。) Read what Kayla wrote and answer the questions.
GOING POSITIVE②
I always wanted to look like the slim③ girls on TV even though I knew that it was impossible(even though引导的让步状语从句,其中包含一个that引导的宾语从句,作knew的宾语。).I worried about my weight and tried every new diet I read about online.I tried no-fat,low-fat, 5∶2④ ,only bananas, no bananas—I almost went bananas⑤ ,(省略了关系代词that的定语从句,修饰every new diet。)
Then I read an article that said instead of asking "Am I fat?" I should be asking "Am I fit?" I had no idea⑥ a letter could make such a difference⑦ !Once I started thinking about fitness rather than⑧ weight(Once意为"一旦",引导时间状语从句。), things began to change. Instead of saying "I want to lose three kilos",I would say "I want to run two kilometres in eight minutes" or "I want to be able to do 30 push-ups⑨".Rather than cutting out⑩ the foods I enjoyed, I added healthy foods to my meals. I could still have a burger now and then⑪ , but I would add a salad or an apple.
Finally,I stopped comparing myself with⑫ actresses and models and looking for things that were wrong with⑬ my face or body.(that引导的定语从句,修饰things, that在从句中作主语。) Instead, I made a list of⑭ the things I liked about myself. By being positive about myself and my body(by doing... , I became both happier and healthier(系动词,后面的形容词短语作表语。).

The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the field day in elementary school. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports lover, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The field day, which focused on individual(个人的) skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit went to my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch.
Once I got to sixth grade and switched to a private school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of the Committee of Games. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. And at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. During the break time, magazines were also quite popular with us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force(RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when I had no spare money to use to join a gym.
So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation(基础) developed in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered important even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I'm concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.

Dealing with Stress in Sports
Sports are a great way to have fun and stay fit. Sports also teach important life lessons like working as a team. 1 . Having a healthy attitude to sports and learning to deal with the stress that comes with competing can help you perform your best.
Competing always leads to some stress. And that can be good. 2 . But too much stress can take the fun out of a sport and make it hard for people to perform well. If you think there might be too much stress around the competition, talk to your parents and coach. Making some changes can help. If you have too much going on, think about limiting practice time or only doing one sport or activity per season.
3 . So it's important to know how to deal with it. Trying different ways during practice helps you know what will work best for you during competition. You can try to take a deep breath and hold it for about 5 seconds, and then release(释放) it slowly. Repeat the process five times. You can also think positively and develop the positive self-talk, like saying “I learn from my mistakes.” “I'm in control of my feelings.” “I can make it!” to help keep the negative(消极的) thoughts away.
Keep stress levels down when you aren't competing. 4 . Besides, doing something fun and relaxing is great, such as taking a break from competing and going for a walk, riding a bike, seeing a movie or hanging out with friends.
Finally, don't forget that no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes in sports. It is part of the game. 5 ?
Whether you play on the school team or in a weekend pick-up game, the point is to have fun. By making that a priority, you can learn to deal with the stress that is a natural part of the competition.
A.There will always be some stress in sports
B.A little stress helps the body face the challenge
C.Why not be quick to forget mistakes and move on
D.If you have too much going on, think about doing more exercise
E.It is best to eat well and get enough sleep, especially before games
F.Aren't sports about staying active, developing as a player and making friends
G.But it's not always easy to hold together when it feels like winning is everything
