Recently, a 14-year-old middle school student named Xiezhao Yutong from Zhengzhou, Henan Province, has caught many people’s attention online. He turned his small bedroom into a “private (私人的) museum” named “Yutang Museum”.
Although Xiezhao Yutong’s bedroom is only around ten square metres, it is filled with his collections, including ancient books, copper coins and pottery (陶瓷). The only space left is his bed. At first, he collected them just because the cultural relics (文物) looked nice. But as his historical knowledge grew, he began to explore the special stories behind each piece. Whenever he talks about the stories behind these relics, he can talk a lot and people are always surprised by how much he knows.

▲处位于第二段与第三段之间,第三段开头讲“He got into reading when he was 3 or 4 years old”以及6岁时与母亲参观博物馆的经历,说明他的爱好从小就开始了。C选项“His hobby started from an early age”正好起到承上启下的过渡作用。

C
In a hospital in Langfang, Hebei Province, Wang Ming looks at the phone beside his table. He cannot move to pick it up. For patients like Wang Ming, a new technology called Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) (脑机接口) offers a light of hope.
BCI is a new technology that can help people who have lost the ability to move their bodies. It acts as a bridge between the brain and a computer. When a person wants to move, their brain sends out a signal (信号). The BCI reads the signal and sends it to a machine, such as a robotic hand. In this way, the person can control the machine just by thinking.
China is making rapid progress in this field. Chinese scientists have developed very small BCI devices (设备). Some of them can even be placed inside the brain. These devices can read brain signals correctly and quickly. The progress brings new hope to many patients.
This technology offers great hope to patients and their family. Many sick people have lost control of their arms and legs. They hope BCI can help them perform simple tasks. For example, they want to drink water or use a phone by themselves with the help of BCI. Even a small improvement can make a big difference in their lives.
However, there are still many challenges. Patients must go through strict checking before surgery (外科手术), as the surgery may bring some risks. Also, not every patient is appropriate for the technology. Doctors need to choose the right patients carefully. The high cost is another big problem for many families.
The future of BCI remains bright. Scientists are working to improve it further. They hope it will help with more difficult actions one day, such as speaking. With continued efforts, this technology may help more people in the years to come.

12. What does the underlined sentence “It acts as a bridge between the brain and a computer.” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. It can turn people’s thoughts into written words.
B. It can build a real bridge between hospitals and labs.
C. It can help the brain work better than a computer.
D. It can connect the brain to a computer and pass signals.
13. Which of the following can take the place of “is appropriate for” in the text?

15. What does the writer think of the future of BCI?
A. It is hopeful. B. It is uncertain. C. It is worrying. D. It is dark.
C 12. D 13. B 14. C 15. A
第一段提到:“Wang Ming looks at the phone beside his table. He cannot move to pick it up.”(王明看着桌边的手机,但他无法移动去拿。)
第二段中画线句子“It acts as a bridge between the brain and a computer.”(它充当大脑和电脑之间的桥梁。)结合后文解释:“The BCI reads the signal and sends it to a machine”(脑机接口读取信号并将其发送到机器),因此这句话的意思是“它可以连接大脑和电脑并传递信号”。
文中提到:“not every patient is appropriate for the technology. Doctors need to choose the right patients carefully.”,结合后文“医生需要仔细选择合适的病人”可知,只有“适合”该技术的病人才会被选中。因此,“is appropriate for”在文中的意思是“适合”,与“is suitable for”同义。
第四段提到挑战:“Patients must go through strict checking before surgery, as the surgery may bring some risks.”(患者在手术前必须接受严格检查,因为手术可能带来风险。)
最后一段第一句:“The future of BCI remains bright.”(脑机接口的未来依然光明。)

Growing Up
Hold fast to your dream, let it guide your way,
Shine bright like____46____ sun at break of day.
Face every challenge, stand strong ____47____ tall,
With courage inside, you’ll never fall.
The best time of youth ____48____ a gift so dear,
It helps you move on, and it helps you see clear.
Always be true to the voice ____49____ your heart,
Let passion (激情) and hope be your brightest art.
When troubles come knocking and try ____50____ break you,
Grow through the pain, and let your light break through.
46. the
47. and 48. is
49. in##of##from
50. to
此处缺少谓语动词,主语“The best time of youth”为单数概念,时态为一般现在时,应用be动词is。
“try”后接动词时,应用动词不定式作宾语,即try to do sth.,表示“试图做某事”,所以填to。
(Two students are talking in the classroom after class.)
A: I have read an excellent book these days. It brings me a lot of new ideas.
B: ________51________. I wonder which book you have finished reading.
A: Its name is Robinson Crusoe. The story is full of courage and hope.
B: I have heard of it before. ________52________?
A: Of course. The main character lives alone on an island. He tries his best to live a good life.
B: That must be hard for him. _________53_________?
A: I learn to be strong when I meet problems. _________54_________.
B: I really want to read it soon. Good books always help us grow.
A: Exactly. _________55_________.
B: I totally agree with you.
51. Sounds great/...
52. Could you tell me more about the story/...
53. What do you learn from this book/...
54. I also learn to never give up/...
55. Reading good books is really a meaningful thing for us/...
根据下文“I wonder which book you have finished reading.” 故此处应填表示赞叹或感兴趣的句子,如“Sounds great.”,以此承接上文A说的“It brings me a lot of new ideas.”。
A回答了“Of course.”并接着描述了主角独自生活在岛上“He tries his best to live a good life.”,说明B在此处提出了一个请求或询问,希望了解更多细节。故此处应填类似“Can you tell me more about the story”的句子,起到承上启下的作用。
根据答语“I learn to be strong when I meet problems.” 故B的问题应该是询问A从书中学到了什么,如“What do you learn from this book”,直接引出A关于“be strong”的感悟。
B紧接着说“I really want to read it soon.”,表明B被A的描述打动了。故A在此处应该是向B讲述自己其他的收获,如“I also learn to never give up”,顺理成章地引出B想读的愿望。
B最后说“I totally agree with you.”,说明A在此处发表了一个观点,且这个观点与B刚才说的“Good books always help us grow.” 故此处可填类似“Reading good books is really a meaningful thing for us”的句子,作为对话的总结,得到B的最终认同。

Although Xiezhao Yutong’s bedroom is only around ten square metres, it is filled with his collections, including ancient books, copper coins and pottery (陶瓷). The only space left is his bed. He said, “My bed is for resting my body, while everything else in this room is for my spirit.” He spent almost all his lucky money and saved pocket money on these items.
