Dear Diary,
Mom always packed delicious food for my lunch, but someone kept stealing something from my lunchbag. I felt down and tried many ways to stop the thief, like writing a false name on the bag or hiding my favorite snacks carefully in the bag. However, nothing worked.
Later, inspired by Mr. Fridley’s words “You need a burglar alarm (防盗警报) on your lunchbag”, I went to a store and bought what was needed to make an alarm lunchbox. I put everything into an old black metal lunchbox and connected the wires (金属线) carefully. When the box was opened, the bell would ring loudly. Mom helped me test it at home, and it worked perfectly! How exciting!
The next Monday at lunchtime, I opened my lunchbox in the dining hall. BZZZZ! The alarm made a terrible noise. Everyone looked at me, which made me embarrassed (尴尬的) . Then I had to show how my invention worked. Finding that my invention was inspiring others, I felt like a hero.
With other kids starting making their own alarm lunchboxes, the dining hall was full of ringing bells. I was pleased to see that my invention had made such a big difference. However, the fad (风尚) did not last long.
Now I still had no idea who the thief was. At first, I was curious. But later, I thought to myself, “Maybe that kid just had no good food at home. He might have his own trouble.” After all, I still had to go to school with that person. I realized that sometimes it was better not to know and the lunchbox alarm had solved my problem.

Have you ever looked at Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting The Starry Night and felt like the sky was moving? It turns out your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. There’s a scientific reason. A team of researchers has found that the swirling (旋动的) patterns in van Gogh’s great work are actually very similar to the real movement of air in the sky!
The researchers used clever methods to study van Gogh’s brushstrokes. They found that these patterns match two important ideas in the study of how water and gases move. Don’t worry if these words sound abstruse—let’s explain them in an easy way.
One of these ideas, called Kolmogorov’s law, describes how energy moves from larger to smaller parts in a moving fluid (流体). Imagine a big swirl breaking down into smaller and smaller ones. This is what happens in the sky and oceans…and amazingly, it’s exactly what van Gogh’s brushstrokes show in The Starry Night.
Finding this pattern in a painting is uncommon, which makes the discovery even more exciting. “It shows that van Gogh had a deep and natural understanding of nature,” says Yongxiang Huang, the head of the study. The research also creates new chances for art and science to connect with each other. It tells us that beauty and science can go hand in hand instead of being opposite.
So, the next time you look at The Starry Night, keep in mind that it is more than a wonderful artwork. It shows the active moving air around us, a great combination of art and science.
23. Why does the writer start the passage with a question?
A. To make ideas easy to understand. B. To attract the readers’ interest.
C. To guide the readers to take action. D. To deepen readers’ understanding.
24. What does the word “abstruse” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Easy to explain. B. Interesting to learn.
C. Hard to understand. D. Important to remember.
25. Which of the following best shows Kolmogorov’s law?
A. B. C. D.
26. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Van Gogh: A Lover of Natural Rules
B. The Starry Night: Art Shows Sky’s Secret
C. The Starry Night: Beauty Meets Scientific Truth
D. Van Gogh: A Talented Artist and Natural Scientist
B 24. C 25. A 26. C

第二段“Don’t worry if these words sound abstruse—let’s explain them in an easy way.”
第三段“energy moves from larger to smaller parts...a big swirl breaking down into smaller and smaller ones”指出,Kolmogorov定律描述的是大涡旋分解成小涡旋的过程。
C项“The Starry Night: Beauty Meets Scientific Truth”准确概括了这一主题。
D
Sara liked to think that her doll, Emily, could understand her. Sometimes it even looked like a doll was about to speak, but Emily never said anything. One night, cold and hungry, she felt lonely and needed someone to talk to.
“I can’t bear this,” said the poor girl, shaking. “I know I’m going to die. I’m cold and wet and starving. I’ve walked miles and miles today. Miss Minchin was in a terrible mood, and I saw some girls making fun of my old clothes. Everybody in the kitchen has scolded (训斥) me from morning until night.” Emily said nothing.
Sara continued to tell the doll about her bad day. The cook had sent her to buy all the things on the list. But Sara couldn’t find the last thing. So the cook refused to give Sara any supper.
“And some men were watching me when my old shoes made me fall in the mud,” Sara went on. “I was covered with mud and they laughed at me. I’m still covered with mud, Emily. Do you hear me?” Emily just stared straight ahead with her glass eyes and unchanging expression.
Suddenly, Sara was filled with anger. She lifted a hand and knocked Emily to the floor. Then she burst into tears, sobbing (抽泣) loudly. This was rare for Sara—the girl who never cried! “You’re nothing but a doll!” shouted Sara. “You’ve never had a heart, you don’t care about anyone!” Sarah hid her face in her arms and sobbed. But after a while, she lifted her face and looked around. Emily was still lying upside down on the floor. Sara picked up the doll. “You can’t help being a doll,” Sara said. “You do your best.” Sara kissed Emily and put the doll back. “I’m very sorry, Emily.” Meanwhile, Sara kept hoping that someone would move into the empty house next door.
“It would be so nice to see someone pop up from the attic (阁楼) window one day,” she thought. “I could begin by greeting the person and then all kinds of good things might happen!”
—Adapted from A Little Princess
27. Why didn’t the cook offer supper to Sara?
A. Sara failed to buy all the things. B. Sara said a bad word about others.
C. Sara lost all her money on the way. D. Sara’s shoes were broken and full of mud.
28. Which of the following best shows the changes in Sara’s feelings?
A. Angry→Sad→Surprised→Happy B. Lonely→Afraid→Angry→Happy
C. Angry→Sorry→Moved→Hopeful D. Lonely→Angry→Sorry→Hopeful
29. Which of the following is the correct order of the story?
a. Sara knocked Emily to the floor. b. Sara kissed Emily and put it back.

A. c-d-a-b B. c-a-d-b C. d-a-b-c D. d-c-a-b
30. What can you infer (推断) from the story?
A. Emily would have a heart and speak to Sara.
B. Miss Minchin and the girls treated Emily well.
C. The house beside Sara’s was empty at that time.
D. Sara expected to make friends with new neighbours.
A 28. D 29. B 30. D
根据第三段中的“The cook had sent her to buy all the things on the list. But Sara couldn’t find the last thing. So the cook refused to give Sara any supper.”
根据第一段中的“One night, cold and hungry, she felt lonely and needed someone to talk to.”可知,起初Sara感到了孤独;根据第五段中的“Suddenly, Sara was filled with anger. She lifted a hand and knocked Emily to the floor.” Sara kissed Emily and put the doll back. ‘I’m very sorry, Emily.’”可知,发泄完后Sara冷静下来,向玩偶表达了歉意;根据第五段最后一句“Meanwhile, Sara kept hoping that someone would move into the empty house next door.”以及最后一段“…and then all kinds of good things might happen!”
根据第四段中“when my old shoes made me fall in the mud…and they laughed at me”可知,首先发生的事情是Sara摔倒在泥泞中并被嘲笑;根据第五段第一、二句“Suddenly, Sara was filled with anger. She lifted a hand and knocked Emily to the floor.”可知,接下来发生的是Sara气愤地将Emily推到地板上;根据第五段“Sarah hid her face in her arms and sobbed.”可知,紧接着Sara用手捂脸并抽泣起来;根据第五段“Sara kissed Emily and put the doll back.”
根据最后一段中“‘I could begin by greeting the person and then all kinds of good things might happen!’”

Whenever you are stuck in different moods, a great poem can be there for you to warm your heart. It can help you process sadness, anger or fear. Or it makes you feel happy or excited. Some poems make you want to stand up and shout them from the roofs. But if you haven’t read poetry in a while, these feelings may be hard to experience. ____36____
Don’t treat poetry like a classroom task. In school, poetry is often taught as something to analyze (分析)—students must understand every line, find hidden meanings, and write articles. ____37____ So relax as you read a poem—there’s no quiz at the end!
____38____ How does the poem have an influence on you? When you speak the words out, you notice rhythm, tone, and emotion. Try reading the same poem in different ways: slowly, as if enjoying each word; or clearly, as if explaining it to someone else. It may help further your understanding of the poem.
Don’t worry about “getting it”. People often feel pressured to unlock a poem’s true meaning. Don’t do that. ____39____ Ask yourself some simple questions: What impression does it leave? What thoughts come to mind? These questions help you shape your experience.
Picture the poem in your mind. A poem might offer visual (视觉的) imagery—or may not. If not, use your imagination to fill in the details. ____40____ What colors would you use? What kind of setting is there? If there’s light, what kind of light would it be? These brain pictures can enrich your connection to the poem.
A. Try to read it out loud.
B. Instead, pay attention to your own feeling.
C. Try to find the poem’s main idea before you read it again.
D. Think of the poem as a movie or a play and you’re the director.
E. Here are some tips to help you meaningfully connect to a poem.
F. That keeps them from developing personal relationships with poetry.
E 37. F 38. A 39. B 40. D

E“Here are some tips to help you meaningfully connect to a poem.”
第二段前文提到在学校里诗歌常被当作分析任务——学生必须理解每一行、找出隐藏含义、写文章,后文说“So relax as you read a poem—there’s no quiz at the end!”。选项F“That keeps them from developing personal relationships with poetry.”
第三段后文提到“When you speak the words out, you notice rhythm, tone, and emotion.”以及“Try reading the same poem in different ways”,说明本段的核心是朗读。选项A“Try to read it out loud.”
第四段前文提到“Don’t worry about ‘getting it’.”和“Don’t do that.”,后文说“Ask yourself some simple questions: What impression does it leave? What thoughts come to mind?”。选项B“Instead, pay attention to your own feeling.”中的“Instead”与前文的“Don’t do that”形成转折呼应,同时“pay attention to your own feeling”与后文“问自己感受和想法”形成逻辑衔接。
第五段前文提到“Picture the poem in your mind.”和“use your imagination to fill in the details”,后文问“What colors would you use? What kind of setting is there?”。选项D“Think of the poem as a movie or a play and you’re the director.”
Lu Yulong, born in 1995 in Jiangxi Province, is a young Chinese scientist and the founder of Shenzhen Yulong Aerospace (航空航天工业) Technology Company. He has set a shining example for millions of teenagers who deeply fall in love with science and exploration.
Lu showed a strong interest in science at an early age. At the age of nine, he started trying simple chemistry experiments (实验) by himself. When he was twelve, an explosion (爆炸) happened during one risky experiment and hurt him badly. However, he never gave up his scientific dream. After the accident, he turned his attention to physics and electricity.
He won plenty of national science competitions and received offers from top key universities. Unexpectedly, he chose to give up a smooth college life and follow his dream of developing civilian liquid rockets
Up to now, Lu Yulong has made great breakthroughs in aerospace research. In February 2026, his team successfully sent up the “Shenzhen Pioneer” liquid rocket in Qinghai. The rocket reached 3.7 kilometers in height. His 5-person team designed and built it in just 15 days, and they used mostly civilian parts to cut costs by over 90%.
Lu’s story tells us that nothing is impossible if we have courage and persistence. As long as we keep moving forward, we can go further.

Happiness from Teamwork
Happiness doesn’t always come from personal success, and it often hides in warm teamwork moments. I’ve experienced such a sweet teamwork story recently that fills my heart with joy.
Last month, our class joined the school poster design competition. We assigned tasks based on our strengths. Some focused on drawing, some hunted for materials and the rest worked out slogans. We exchanged ideas after class and improved our work little by little. With our joint efforts, we won first prize in the end.
I find true happiness from teamwork lies in the warmth of classmates’ help, the joy of overcoming difficulties side by side and the pride we share as a whole class. These sweet feelings fill our school life with sunshine.

Dear Diary,
Mom always packed delicious food for my lunch, but someone kept stealing something from my lunchbag.
