The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.
Man has been polluting the earth. The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people, when the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, man moved to another place. But this is no longer true. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.
Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water, noise pollution makes us angry more easily.
Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air.
Pollution by SO₂ is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. It is sure that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.
The earth is our home. We must take care of it. That means keeping the land, water and air clean. And we must take care of the rise in population at the same time.
21.________, our world is becoming much smaller.

C.it makes our rivers and lakes dirty D.it’s bad for all living things in the world
25.Which of the following is NOT true?
A.Many countries are making rules to fight against pollution.
B.The pollution of the earth grows as fast as the world population does.
C.The problem of pollution is not so serious because there are not so many people
D.If people could go to work by bus or bike instead of car or motorbike, it would against the problem of SO₂.

A new, large-scale study finds that rising temperatures from the climate crisis are reducing people’s sleep across the globe. Researchers studied sleep data from wristbands (手环) of 47,000 people over 7 months, covering 68 countries. The result shows that higher night-time temperatures make people around the world lose about 44 hours of sleep every year.
However, lost sleep affects some groups much more than others. The sleep loss per degree of warming is about 25% higher for women than men, twice as high for those over 65 years old and three times higher for those in less affluent nations, since they have fewer ways to cool down.
Higher temperatures are already known to harm health, causing more heart problems, mental health issues and accidents. Poor sleep leads to similar health risks, and researchers believe poor sleep is a main reason why heat damages people’s health. They also find people cannot get used to hotter nights.
Lead researcher Kelton Minor says this study proves warmer temperatures cut sleep worldwide, and the real situation may be worse. He advises policymakers to design heat-adapted towns and buildings to protect public health. However, the study’s data mostly comes from rich countries, with fewer poor people included. More research is needed in hot, low-income areas.
26.Which is NOT mentioned about the study in Paragraph 1?
A.How the data was collected. B.How many respondents were involved.
C.The duration of the study. D.The purpose of the study.
27.What does the underlined word “affluent” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Peaceful. B.Poor. C.Rich. D.Equal.
28.How do increasing temperatures harm people?
A.They cause car accidents. B.They reduce people’s sleep time.
C.They result in extreme weather events. D.They limit people’s adaptation ability.
29.What can be learned from Kelton Minor’s words?
A.The study adopted a new research method.
B.Some cities have taken firmer action to fight the heat.
C.Policymakers have doubts about the study.
D.Heat’s impacts may be worse than predicted.
30.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us about the study?
A.Its findings. B.Its limitations. C.Its applications. D.Its significance.

根据后文“since they have fewer ways to cool down (因为它们冷却的方式更少。)”
根据第一段rising temperatures from the climate crisis are reducing people’s sleep across the globe. Poor sleep leads to similar health risks, and researchers believe poor sleep is a main reason why heat damages people’s health.
根据第四段Lead researcher Kelton Minor says this study proves warmer temperatures cut sleep worldwide, and the real situation may be worse.
However, the study’s data mostly comes from rich countries, with fewer poor people included. More research is needed in hot, low-income areas.

An internship is more than just a summer job — it is a great chance to learn new skills, explore your career interests, and build professional connections. For high school and college students, a good internship can open doors to future jobs.
First, set clear goals before starting. Do you want to learn how to use certain software? Or practice communicating with clients? Writing down your goals will help you stay focused and make the most of your time.
Second, be proactive. Don’t just wait for tasks to come to you. Ask your supervisor (主管) for more work when you are free. Offer to help colleagues with small projects. This shows you are hard-working and eager to learn.
Third, take notes and ask questions. You will learn a lot of new things every day, so keep a notebook to write down key skills and important information. If you don’t understand something, ask for help — most supervisors are happy to guide interns who show interest.
Finally, build your network. Talk to your coworkers and ask about their career paths. Connect with them on professional social media like LinkedIn. These relationships may help you find job opportunities later.
Of course, internships also have challenges. You might feel nervous at first or make small mistakes. But these experiences are part of learning. By the end of your internship, you will grow into a more confident and capable young professional.
31.What is one of the benefits of an internship according to the passage?
A.It guarantees a full-time job after graduation.
B.It helps students build professional connections.
C.It allows students to skip school classes.
D.It only teaches students how to use software.
32.What should you do before starting an internship?
A.Buy expensive professional clothes. B.Set clear learning goals.

33.The underlined word “proactive” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A.waiting for others to give you work B.being lazy and unwilling to learn
C.taking action before being told to do so D.refusing to help colleagues
34.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Making mistakes in an internship is a bad thing.
B.Supervisors dislike interns who ask questions.
C.Networking with coworkers is useless for future jobs.
D.Internships help students become more confident.
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Internships are only for college students.
B.How to succeed and get the most from an internship.
C.Internships are more tiring than full-time jobs.
D.Why students should avoid internships.

C.Make a travel plan for the summer. D.Ask for a high salary.
