But do you know some animals could beat the best human players in some events? Let’s find out some of the real competitors who could take home an Olympic gold medal! Arctic Hare Speed skaters go about 56 kilometers an hour. Me? I can run 64 kilometers an hour on ice and turn directions in such a rapid way! These are good things for me to avoid danger. So, quick turns? No problem at all! Figure skaters do jumps and draw fantastic shapes without falling over. A piece of cake for me! I got the name “Perfect Walker”. When walking in the snow, I leave just one clean line. I can also jump up to 2 meters high — about four times my body height. With exact moves and cool jumps, I’m sure to get perfect scores! Red Fox Mountain Goat Players climb up a mountain, then rush down. I do this in the wild every day. My special feet can hold rocks closely to help me climb without difficulty. Going down? I just go down the hill on parts of my body such as feet, sides and so on. Nothing else needed! Skiers sometimes race over 48 kilometers in just one event. That’s only a warm-up for me. I travel about 1,200 kilometers every year to get food in winter and safe places for my babies in spring. I must be the final winner! Caribou 21. What animal is good at changing directions? A. Where can you read the passage probably? A. An animal magazine. B. A travel guide. C. A sports announcement. D. An education notice. B Chao Ziyi and Chao Ziwei are brothers from Henan province. More than 20 years ago, making large bowls was their job. If someone told them they would one day become artists, they would just laugh at it as a joke. But you can never predict what life will bring you next. Today, they both teach at a university, and their works are shown at home and abroad. They learned every step of making ceramics (陶瓷) on their own from a young age, and this gave them something even more valuable — a deep love for their material. Artists and teachers later led them into the world of ceramic art. Although receiving no professional art training, the brothers gradually developed a style — use ceramics, an old Chinese material, to express modern ideas and personal memories. Their most fascinating artwork is a huge ceramic tractor (拖拉机) called Dongfanghong. It is over two meters long and weighs two tons, with no support inside. Different thicknesses and thin parts let the clay break easily. They worked day and night, trying special materials and changing the heat levels again and again. The artwork finally looked like real metal through their years of efforts. Thanks to their efforts and new ideas, the brothers have won many prizes, and their artworks are kept in famous museums. Their story shows us that with patience and strong mind, even the most common journey can lead to something amazing. 26. What did the brothers do in the past? A. They decided to be artists. B. They taught at a university. C. They lived by making big bowls. D. They worked in foreign countries. 27. How did artists and teachers help the brothers? A. By telling them teaching methods. B. By giving them professional training. C. By asking them to produce ceramics. D. By guiding them into the world of art. 28. What do we know about the ceramic tractor? A. It seems like real metal. B. It needs months of work. C. It is nearly two meters high. D. It has strong support inside. 29. Which of the following best describe the brothers? A. Caring and cool-minded. B. Patient and well-educated. C. Talented and warm-hearted. D. Creative and hard-working. 30. What would be the best title for the passage? A. A deep love for the past. B. An amazing turn in life. C. A modern style of clay bowls. D. An unexpected art class. C It may sound like a magic story that plants can actually sense sounds around them. A new study by scientists at MIT found that rice seeds (种子) can “hear” the sound of raindrops and use the information to “decide” when to grow. It’s not completely new. Earlier studies have already shown some plants could respond to (反应) the environment. They can sense the sounds when caterpillars eat leaves, and when bees fly past. The new study shows that plants are even smarter than we thought. To make sure the seeds respond to sound instead of water, scientists did a test. They chose to focus on rice seeds because rice is usually planted in water. Thousands of rice seeds were put in water. By this way, all of the seeds could get enough water to grow. Some stayed in quiet water, while others sensed man-made raindrops. The result was surprising. The seeds that “hear” raindrop sounds grew 30 to 40 percent faster than the ones in quiet water. This faster growth helps seeds live better in nature. Scientists also found out why this happens. Falling raindrops create clear vibrations in the water. Inside rice seeds, there are tiny parts called statoliths keeping balance. These parts move quickly when they feel the vibrations, which tells the seeds to start growing earlier. The scientists believe that sensing rain sounds may help seeds make sure they’re in a good place to grow. They think this special ability is not just for rice. 31. What can we learn from paragraph 1? A. Plants have “mouths”. B. Rice seeds have “ears”. C. Bees have sense of taste. D. Insects have magical power. 32. Why did scientists put all seeds in water? A. To test their quality. B. To count their number. C. To set them in the same condition. D. To keep them in quiet environment. 33. Which picture could show the result of the scientific test? A. B. C. D. 34. What does the underlined word “vibrations” probably mean? A. Shakes. B. Scenes. C. Shapes. D. Smells. 35. What will be probably talked about next? A. How plant seeds keep perfect balance. B. Why rice seeds live better in some places. C. How scientists carry out the rice seeds test. D. Whether other plant seeds share the ability. 第二节 补全语篇(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。 Have you ever felt bored or down in your life? Keeping yourself positive is about having a feeling of happiness and life satisfaction. It is also linked to health. 36 ● Love and accept yourself. 37 You should not care too much about changing yourself. Use active self-talk by thinking or telling yourself things like, “I love who I am. I accept everything about myself right now. How I am right at this moment is completely fine.” ● Think from the brighter side. Your own thoughts will greatly influence how you feel. Many people think they don’t achieve what they want. If you are part of them, it’s hard for you to feel satisfied. Positive people don’t look for other materials or experiences to keep happy. 38 ● Do activities that lift your spirits. Being active is connected with happiness levels. 39 Some examples are watching TV, painting and listening to music. Doing exercise like swimming and hiking also helps. Do whatever that can help you. ● 40 Do not depend on others to tell you what you want. Hold true to your own beliefs. If you want to be a driver, start to study traffic rules. If you dream of becoming a writer, begin to write daily. Every step towards your dream is a success — even the smallest one. A. Be independent. B. Set your own goals. C. Focus on what you are now. D. Their main goal is to work in places built for people and help with everyday tasks. Different from traditional factory robots, which only work in factories, humanoid robots are produced to live and work with humans. They can open doors, use tools and talk to people. Today, humanoid robots have become real, not just in movies, because of fast growth in AI and robotics. How do they work like humans? First, their body shape is similar to ours. They have human-like bodies with arms, legs, heads and sensing parts. Special machines let their body move freely. Cameras and sensing parts help them see things and hold objects. Next, AI gives them “brains”. It helps them understand the environment, learn new skills and answer human orders quickly. Many Chinese companies are making huge progress in developing such robots. In the future, we can always see them in many places at any time. They will be good helpers in homes, hospitals, schools and workplaces. They will also do more challenging or boring jobs for humans around the clock. With better technology, they will certainly have a great influence on how we work, study and live.
