C 【解析】 【原文】These days, a quiet trend is spreading among young people stepping away from digital devices. More and more teenagers are choosing to put down their phones, tablets and laptops, not forever, but for a few hours a day or even a whole weekend. At first, stepping away feels uncomfortable. Without the constant sound of messages, many people feel uneasy or even anxious. However, after a short period, something interesting happens. They start reading books again, go for walks or have real conversations with family and friends. Many report that they sleep better and feel less stressed. Why is this practice growing? One reason is that people are realizing being always connected does not mean being happy. The endless stream of information leaves them tired and unable to focus. Another reason is that young people are beginning to value deep thinking over quick reactions. They want time to think, to create and to simply be. Stepping away, even briefly, gives our brains a chance to rest. It helps us notice the world around us, the smell of rain, the sound of laughter, the feeling of doing one thing at a time. This trend is not about rejecting technology. It is about learning to use it without letting it use us. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply turn off the screen and look up. 1. How do people feel at first when they step away from their digital devices? 2. Why do more people choose to step away from digital devices? 3. What does the author suggest doing? 听下面一段对话,回答以下小题。【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 10. A. How to predict the weather by clouds. B. How to catch fish at sunrise. C. How to drive a boat safely in the ocean. D. He is always rushing and needs to relax. 12. A. Have a short trip soon. B. Save money for a long journey. C. Stay at home and rest. D. Ask the man to take her there. 【答案】10. A 11. D 12. A 【解析】 【原文】W: Hey Ben, I heard you just got back from a trip. How was it? M: It was amazing. I went to a small fishing village by the coast. No big hotels, no crowds, just the ocean and the locals. W: That sounds so peaceful. What did you do there every day? M: Mostly walking along the beach and talking to the fisherman, one of them even took me out on his boat at sunrise. W: Wow, that must have been beautiful. Were you nervous being out on the open water? M: A little at first, but the fisherman was so calm and experienced. He showed me how to tell the weather just by looking at the clouds. W: That’s such a useful skill. Did you catch any fish? M: Not a single one, but honestly, I didn’t even mind just being out there watching the sun rise over the water. That was enough. W: I love that attitude. It sounds like you really connected with nature. M: Exactly. And I realized something I spent so much time planning and rushing that trip taught me to slow down. W: I think I need that too. Lately I’ve been feeling really tired from work. M: You should go sometime. It’s not far and it’s cheap. The hardest part is just deciding to go. W: You’re right. Maybe I’ll plan a short trip next month. M: Let me know if you do. I can give you the fisherman’s number. W: That would be great, thanks Ben. I’m already feeling excited just thinking about it. M: You won’t regret it. Sometimes the best trips are the simplest ones. 1. What did the man learn from the fisherman? 2. What did the man realize from his trip? 3. What will the woman probably do next? II. How AI and Social Media Contribute to ‘Brain Rot’ Last spring, Shiri Melumad, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, gave a group of 250 people a simple writing assignment. They needed to share advice with a friend on how to lead a healthier lifestyle. To come up with tips, some were allowed to use a traditional Google search, while ____13____ could rely only on summaries of information generated automatically with Google’s artificial intelligence. ____14____ (use) AI-generated summaries, people wrote advice that was common, obvious and largely unhelpful — eat healthy foods, drink enough water and get lots of sleep! Compared with the AI users, the traditional Google users shared ____15____ (detailed) advice, including physical, mental and emotional health. The tech industry tells us that chatbots and new AI search tools will greatly improve the way we learn, and that anyone who ignores the technology ____16____ (leave) behind. But Dr. Melumad’s experiment found that people ____17____ rely heavily on chatbots and AI search tools for tasks like writing essays and research are generally performing worse than people who don’t use them. Welcome to the era of “brain rot”, the term to describe a poor mental state where people find themselves ____18____ (trap) by engaging with low-quality Internet content. When we write with ChatGPT, are we even writing? The most well-known study this year about AI’s effects ____19____ the brain came out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Researchers ____20____ (seek) to understand how tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT could affect how people write. The study, which involved 54 college students, had a small sample size, but the results raised important questions about ____21____ AI could prevent people from learning. In an age where AI and social media offer great convenience, we should not let them take the place of our own ability ____22____ (think). Only by staying active in mind and avoiding low-quality online content can we prevent “brain rot” and truly grow as learners. 【答案】13. others 14. Studies show that common sets of behaviors can be ____24____ in animals living in urban environments around the world. For example, many squirrels in New York and ibises in Sydney have ____25____ humans without fear. This behavioral similarity comes with a lack of species diversity as cities expand. In other words, while a few bold species survive, many others quietly disappear from these same landscapes. Urban wildlife have learned that people are a source of food. Because people ____26____ don’t harm them, city animals lose their fear. This affects how they ____27____. Human activities have led to the survival of bolder animals, which pass on their traits. The majority of studied urban species now show some form of behavioral adjustment. Urban birds, for instance, have adapted by singing at higher frequencies to avoid traffic noise — a ____28____ solution to a noisy problem. In fact, light pollution alone has been shown to ____29____ migrating birds and break the hunting patterns of bats. The loss of behavioral diversity has consequences. Having lived in Kenya all his life, he felt deeply rooted by the country’s culture and way of life, and this was reflected in how he connected with other people wherever he went. However, arriving in South Africa made him rethink his usual way of leading and being. Any of us who have experienced a geographical move or immersion in a different culture have felt the challenge of needing to figure out how things are done — confidence and familiarity in one place doesn’t directly translate to the new context. This was not always easy, and he spent a lot of time managing cultural conflicts. But Antony also arrived in South Africa with an important mindset taking formation. Shortly before he moved in 2018, he participated in CSCLeaders as part of his work with Unilever, and here he was thrown into an experience with diverse peers from across the world. He sometimes found it hard to know how to act or what to say, and this made him feel anxious. At times it was daunting but learning to understand context and lived experience before jumping to judge a person or situation proved incredibly helpful when he did make the shift to South Africa. Since the programme, he makes it his mission to understand as much as he can about the people he works with, and the context and culture he’s operating within. He is truly dedicated to learning more about the people and the place that is integral to his work — he even took a three-day course that detailed South Africa’s entire history back to 1280! Now, Antony’s constant learning and his deeply considered work at Unilever has been so successful that he is moving to Uganda to head up a new role there. Given his dedication to leading with deep cultural intelligence, I’ve no doubt he will thrive as he moves into this next big leadership transition. 43. What was the main challenge Antony faced when he first arrived in South Africa? A. He struggled to learn the local language. B. He missed the food and weather in Kenya. C. His previous ways were no longer effective. D. He couldn’t find a job that matched his skills. 44. The word “daunting” in paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to ________. A. boring and repetitive B. frightening and challenging C. exciting and promising D. simple and straightforward 45. What can we infer about Antony’s attitude towards learning about new cultures? A. He believes it is a waste of time and energy. B. He thinks it is only important for business leaders. C. He sees it as an essential part of working effectively with others. D. He feels it is something he can do after he has settled in a new place. 46. What is the main idea of the passage? A. The history of South Africa from 1280 until now. B. Antony’s happiness of working at a big company. C. The cultural differences among three African countries. D. The impact of cultural learning on Antony’s leadership. 【答案】43. C 44. B 45. C 46. D 【解析】 【导语】文章主要讲述了安东尼移居南非后遭遇文化差异带来的挑战,过往的学习经历让他重视文化认知,不断学习当地文化也助力他的工作与职业发展。 【43题详解】 细节理解题。根据原文第一段“However, arriving in South Africa made him rethink his usual way of leading and being.(然而,来到南非后,他不得不重新审视自己以往的处事和领导方式。)” 可知,安东尼初到南非面临的主要挑战是他以往的行事方式不再适用。 【44题详解】 词句猜测题。根据原文第二段 “He sometimes found it hard to know how to act or what to say, and this made him feel anxious. Summary Writing (6分) 55. Directions: Read the following paragraph. Summarize its main idea in no more than 30 words. Use your own words as far as possible. Ask someone if they have regrets, and very few people will say: “I wish I had spent more of my life commuting.” The time spent travelling from home to work and back again tends to be neither relaxing nor productive. So when people are surveyed about their perfect commute time, the unsurprising answer tends to be “shorter”. On average people around the world spend roughly an hour a day commuting. Long journeys can impose costs on employers as well as commuters, leading to increased staff turnover (员工流失). Time spent travelling can also hurt productivity. No one wants to spend more of their life commuting. However, even long journeys can have benefits. In a study, people were asked what was the maximum commute length they were prepared to tolerate. The result was more than the length of their current commute, which suggests some awareness of the upsides to tolerating long travel times: lower housing costs, better local facilities close to home and a greater choice of employer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Although commuting is generally disliked and harmful to productivity, people tolerate long commutes for benefits like lower housing costs, better local facilities and better job choices. 【解析】 【导语】本文主要介绍了通勤普遍不受欢迎且会带来负面影响,但人们仍会为了一些益处而忍受较长的通勤时间。 【详解】1.要点摘录 ①Ask someone if they have regrets, and very few people will say: “I wish I had spent more of my life commuting.” The time spent travelling from home to work and back again tends to be neither relaxing nor productive. ②Time spent travelling can also hurt productivity. ③However, even long journeys can have benefits. ④The result was more than the length of their current commute, which suggests some awareness of the upsides to tolerating long travel times: lower housing costs, better local facilities close to home and a greater choice of employer. 2.缜密构思 将第①②两个要点进行重组,将第③④要点进行整合。 3.遣词造句 Although commuting is generally disliked and harmful to productivity, people tolerate long commutes for benefits like lower housing costs, better local facilities and better job choices. 【点睛】【高分句型1】Although commuting is generally disliked and harmful to productivity, people tolerate long commutes for benefits like lower housing costs, better local facilities and better job choices. In fact, light pollution alone has been shown to ____29____ migrating birds and break the hunting patterns of bats. The loss of behavioral diversity has consequences. During the trip, volunteer travelers often provide ____35____ like teaching, cooking, animal caring, and cultural activities. (A) When Antony moved to South Africa, the world he knew was completely changed. 43. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ V.
