A lot of people play sports, but very few people become sports professionals (专家). If sports aren’t going to be your future, then why should you play them? Why should you train every day? Why should you work hard and feel sore (酸痛的) the next day? Wouldn’t it be better to forget sports and only study? In fact, there are a lot of advantages (优点) of playing sports.
First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong. It also helps you stay in a good condition. When you exercise, your body makes endorphins (内啡肽) which give you more energy and make you feel happier.

Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sport, he or she may have fewer problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.
Another advantage of sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, a lot of people spend too much time watching television and playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.

It is a hot and sunny summer day. A grasshopper is lying under the grass with nothing to do. At the same time, many ants are busy carrying food back to their home.
The grasshopper doesn’t understand why the ants are working so hard. So he says to the ants, “Come under the grass and relax for a while.” The ants don’t listen to him and keep on working hard. “Why are you carrying food?” The grasshopper asks. “It will be winter soon. We must be prepared, or we will not have enough food to eat in winter.” one of the ants answers. The grasshopper laughs. “Winter is far away. There is lots of food everywhere. Stop working. Let’s sing, dance and play together.” The ants do not say anything and walk away.
When winter comes, the grasshopper looks everywhere for food in the cold. But he cannot find anything to eat. He is freezing and starving. So he has to come to the ants’ house and knocks at the door. An ant opens the door in surprise. The grasshopper tells the ants that he hasn’t eaten food for a long time and hopes the ants can give him some food to eat. But the ants close the door and say “If you are lazy enough to relax all summer, then you must go to bed hungry in winter.”

The Blue Ocean: Our Amazing Home
The ocean covers more than 70% of Earth’s surface and is home to millions of living things. It is not just a big body of water — it is a beautiful and important landscape.
The ocean has different parts. Near the coast, the water is shallow and bright. Sunlight reaches the seabed, so colorful coral reefs grow here. They are like underwater forests, home to fish, crabs, and sea turtles. Further out, the ocean becomes deeper and darker. Some strange and wonderful animals live there, like the anglerfish with a glowing light on its head.
The ocean also helps our planet. It makes the air we breathe and keeps the Earth’s temperature just right. But now, the ocean is in trouble. People throw too much plastic into it, and some sea animals mistake plastic for food. We must work together to keep the ocean clean and beautiful.
Next time you visit a beach, take a moment to look at the blue water. It is not just water — it is our amazing home.

38. Which animal is mentioned as living in the deep ocean?

C. Anglerfish. D. Dolphin.
39. Why is the ocean important to our planet?

Last Saturday was a perfect day for outdoor activities—sunny, warm, and breezy. Amy, Daniel, and their classmates from Sunshine Middle School decided to visit Forest Hill for a day trip.
As soon as they arrived, they headed straight to the open space near the lake. Daniel held his brand-new kite tightly. It was like a giant bird with bright blue and yellow stripes. With the help of the strong wind, the kite soared into the sky quickly. Soon, it looked like a tiny dot among the white clouds.
While Daniel was busy with his kite, Amy prepared for the picnic. She laid a checkered mat under a large oak tree. The group shared delicious homemade sandwiches, crispy cookies, and fresh orange juice. After lunch, they didn't just sit around; they played hide-and-seek in the woods. It was challenging because the trees provided excellent cover.
Before leaving, the students showed great responsibility. They spent twenty minutes picking up litter and putting it into different bins to keep the park clean. Though they were exhausted on the bus ride home, nobody regretted the trip. They promised to come back next month.
