I found a cave (near my country home. When I first
entered the darkness of this cave,I saw a pair of eyes looking at
me,and this frightened me.However,I soon discovered that it
was just an old goat()lying there to die.I brought most of
my guns and my gunpowder()to this cave to keep them safe.
The old goat died the next day,and I buried()him.I felt very
safe in my new cave. The savages(野籤人)would not find me
here! However,I still slept at my seaside house every night.
I was very happy on my island and would gladly have lived
there for the rest of my life.I only had one problem. It was a big
problem.I was afraid of the savages, who might kill and eat me.
One morning,I woke up very early and saw a fire on the
beach, about two kilometres away and on my side of the island.
No savages had ever been there before.I immediately loaded(
装子弹)my guns and got everything ready to fight if they found
me.I was worried that they might find my corn or my goats.I sat
in my house and waited, ready to fight.

One of my favourite inventions()in recent years is face
unlocking.Without needing to lift my fingers and type in the
numbers,I can get straight into my phone with just a look. Now
there is a new technology designed to replace()the password
靠
called the passkey!
Passkeys turn your phone into something a bit like a wallet,
which you can use to store membership()cards to all of your
apps and services. When you need to log in()to a website,
you'll just have to tap a button on your phone and your passkey
wallet will let you in without any worry. And how does it keep
this wallet safe?By using the same“biometric(生物统计的)”
check your phone uses-一a face scan(扫描)or a fingerprint that
cannot easily be forged(伪造).
Passkeys won't just save us from having to remember
passwords, but perhaps logging in with a passkey will actually be
much safer than typing a password. This is because it uses a
-343-
technology called“public key”cryptography(码学),which is
one of the building blocks (of the Internet-and is how
computers have safely communicated with other computers for so
many years.To put it simply,it works a bit like a key,instead of
a password.
With a password,the website has to keep a database(数据库)
of everyone's passwords to check agamst when you log m.But
with a passkey, when you create your account (on a
website,it will effectively create a new lock and key.The website
will keep the lock-and only your phone will have the key.
People choose to use the passkey because it's a really clever
idea and passkeys are going to make their digital lives even safer.
So,next time you're complaining that you can't remember your
password, don't worry too much.It won't always be like this!
)40.How does the technology make a passkey safer than a
password?
A.By keeping a database of people's passkeys to check
against when they log in.
B.By scanning people s faces and using their fingerprints.
C.By tapping a button on the phone and the phone's
passkey wallet will let the owner in.
D.By keeping the lock and its key created on the
website in different places.
)41.The writer probably agrees that
A.people like the passkey technology very much
B.passwords can't be replaced by passkeys in the
future
C.the passkey technology has a long way to go
D.“public key”is a real key
)42.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Safety of the Internet
B.The New Technology Called the Passkey
C.The Ways to Log in to a Website
D.The Invention of Face Unlocking

most easily for winds from one.direction,"says Shields. That
helps stop seeds from one head all going the same way.46.

powerful wind can blow off all the seeds at once.
A.And it may explain why the plants are so successful at
spreading
