“Please don’t kill me.” This is what a girl said recently when she was attacked by a sea lion in California, US. Usually considered a friendly animal, many believe the sea lion went crazy because it was poisoned (毒害) by algae (海藻).
The “criminal” is a kind of poison from a harmful algae. According to the US National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries), more than 100 calls are made every day reporting sea lions and dolphins influenced by this poison.
John Warner, CEO of the Marine Mammal Care Center in Los Angeles, told the BBC that these animals don’t really attack people. “These animals are reacting to the fact that they are sick,” he said.
The harmful algae grow fast when deep ocean water moves up to the surface. This brings nutrients (营养) that help the algae grow. Fish eat the algae and get the poison, and when dolphins and sea lions eat those fish, they get sick.
However, according to NOAA Fisheries, the harmful algae showed up earlier than usual. Climate change is a big reason for this, noted The Guardian. Warmer weather and changing ocean conditions make it easier for the algae to grow. Moreover, some scientists also think wildfires in Los Angeles might play a role. Large wildfires have caused the ocean near the beach to have more nutrients.
5. Why does the story begin with a girl being attacked by a sea lion?
A. To explain what to do in such situations.
B. To warn people to stay away from sea lions.
C. To criticize humans for polluting the ocean.
D. To show how poison can make sea lions act dangerously.

A. Many sea lions and dolphins are affected by poison.
B. The poison only affects sea lions and dolphins.
C. The harmful algae are being dealt with.
D. Scientists found a new poison from algae.
7. How does climate change affect the outbreaks of the harmful algae?
A. It makes them grow deeper underwater.
B. It causes genetic changes in the algae.
C. It decreases nutrients in the water.
D. It causes the algae to appear earlier.
8. What can be predicted about sea animals in California, according to the passage?
A. They may continue to face health problems.
B. They may cause climate change to be worse.
C. They may stop eating the algae very soon.
D. They may grow healthier as the ocean gets warmer.
【答案】5. D 6. A 7. D 8. A

When people think about movies, they often talk about what they see. However, what they hear also plays an important role. The voices behind the characters help to bring them to life. Lyu Yanting, the voice actor of little Ne Zha in Ne Zha 2, uses her voice to bring to life a great character who fights against fate (命运).
“Dubbing (配音) is very similar to acting,” said Lyu. Voice actors will get the script (剧本) before they start. After reading it, they will have their own understanding of the story and character. During the dubbing process, she needs to show the character’s feelings. Also, she has to match her voice perfectly with the scenes. “The director plays an important role. He will explain the story and scenes on set. With his guidance, we work together to give our best performance.” Lyu believes it is very important to keep improving as a voice actor. “We need to improve our understanding, experience more in life and develop different views. With these things and our professional skills, we can successfully act out different roles.”
Lyu is thankful for being part of this great project. She could show everything she had learned in the past. But she also believes that getting such a chance needed some luck. It is always hard to find roles that completely fit her. “You can’t depend on just one perfect role throughout your whole career (职业生涯),” she added. “As a voice actor, you need to be able to adapt to all kinds of roles.”
For young people who want to enter the voice acting industry, Lyu offered her advice: “If you truly love it, give it your all. You may not know what the future holds, but you can make the most of the present.” Borrowing a line from Ne Zha 2, she said, “Who you are is only for you to decide.”

句意:按照她的建议,我决定试一试。根据“At her suggestions, I decided to have ... try.”

AI in Our Life
As we all know, AI changes our lives greatly. In daily life, AI is everywhere. For example, smart voice assistants like Siri can help us set reminders, play music and answer various questions just by voice commands. AI-powered recommendation systems on shopping apps can analyze our browsing and purchase history, then suggest products we might like.
I once used an AI-based translation app when traveling abroad. It could translate languages in real-time. When I couldn’t communicate with local people in English, this app came to my rescue. I typed what I wanted to say, and it gave accurate translations, making my trip much smoother.
I think the arrival of the AI era is a great thing. It makes our life more convenient and efficient. However, we should also be aware of its potential problems, like privacy issues. We need to use AI wisely to make the most of its benefits while minimizing the negative impacts.

6. What can we learn from the US NOAA Fisheries?

①Chopsticks (or kuaizi in Chinese) are a kind of common tableware in the world, they are widely used in Asia and overseas Chinese Community. Chopsticks are also one of the symbols of Chinese food culture.
②There are many stories about who may have invented them. About 4000 years ago, our ancestor called Dayu who helped people fight against floods. He was always busy and often ate in the wild. To save time, he used two branches (树枝)to get the food. He found this way was more convenient than using hands. People followed him to use chopsticks to eat.
13. In what way are voice actors similar to other actors, according to Lyu Yanting?
A. They also need to move.
B. They need other actors’ guidance.
C. They need to create scenes.
D. They need to understand their characters well.
14. What does Lyu think is important for voice actors to handle different roles?
A. Being patient and careful. B. Listening to different views.
C. Having rich life experience. D. Reading more scripts.
15. What does the underlined word “adapt” in Paragraph 3 most likely mean?
A. 模仿。 B. 适应。 C. 创造。 D. 记忆。
16. What advice does Lyu give to young people interested in voice acting?
A. Always believe in yourselves.
B. Keep up with market development.
C. Choose roles carefully.
D. Love what you do and try your best.
