Momo ☆☆☆☆☆ May 1, 2026 22:46:30 Fujian 3719
It’s amazing that the actors are not famous, but they really did a great job! The story is quite close to Minnan Culture. It reminds me that my family used to receive lots of “qiaopi” — letters that overseas Chinese sent home with money.
Berrycat ☆☆☆☆☆ May 8, 2026 9:31:38 Shanghai 4308
I remember one line that says, “The sea is wide, but as I miss you so much, it’s not far anymore.” In this fast-developing world, it tells us that handwritten letters can still carry strong feelings. That is why I love this story.
Pancake ☆☆☆☆☆ May 12, 2026 16:32:40 Guangdong 3126
I was greatly touched by the love story between Musheng and Shurou. Besides, it shows many Chaoshan traditions like the Gongfu tea and Yingge Dance. I’m so proud of being a local!

In a community garden, a group of students were exploring. Ollie looked around and asked, “This place is beautiful, but what does it have to do with our mission (任务)? The vegetables are growing well, right?”
“But look over there,” Jamal said seriously. “Those bags are full of food scraps (食物残渣) collected from nearby homes and restaurants. People throw away fruit skins, old vegetables and unfinished meals every day.”
“Why is that a problem?” Ollie asked.
“When food waste is sent to landfills (垃圾填埋场), it can produce greenhouse gases,” Jamal explained. “Also, throwing food away wastes the water, land and energy used to grow and carry it.”
“But food scraps can still be useful,” Kiki added quickly, remembering what she had learned at school. “They can be turned into compost (堆肥) and help plants grow.”
As the tour went on, they reached a small composting area. A garden worker told them that the community garden collected some food scraps every week and used them to make compost. Kiki touched Ollie’s arm lightly and said quietly, “This must be where our mission is!”
With Jamal leading, they walked closer to a wooden box. Inside, old leaves and food scraps were slowly turning into dark soil.
“Compost is very helpful,” Jamal continued. “It gives plants nutrients (营养) and helps reduce waste. But this garden alone cannot solve the problem of food waste.”
“We need to help fix it,” Ollie said, his eyes bright with excitement.
That afternoon, they got straight to work: Ollie made signs to show which food scraps could go into the compost box, Kiki filmed a short video about how composting worked, and Jamal searched for information about reducing food waste at school. Later, they shared their ideas with their classmates and asked the school to set up a small corner in the dining hall for collecting food waste.
Weeks later, more students began to use the compost box and waste less food, showing that small actions could make a real difference.
19. Where were the students at the beginning of the story?
A. In a food factory. B. In a nearby restaurant.
C. In a school dining hall. D. In a community garden.
20. According to Jamal, why can food waste be a problem?
A. It makes vegetables grow too fast. B. It wastes water, land and energy.
C. It helps produce useful compost. D. It keeps students away from lunch.
21. Which of the following shows the story in the correct order?
A. ②①③④ B. ②①④③ C. ④①②③ D. ④②①③
22. What might be the students’ mission?
A. To help reduce food waste. B. To make videos for restaurants.
C. To build a new dining hall. D. To sell vegetables from the garden.

For many years, pandas have been China’s most famous animal ambassadors (大使). Now another Chinese animal is beginning to appear in zoos around the world: the golden snub-nosed monkey (金丝猴).
Golden snub-nosed monkeys live mainly in mountain forests in China. They are easy to recognize because of their golden-orange fur (皮毛), blue faces and small upturned noses. To survive cold winters, they grow thick fur. They eat fruit, flowers, seeds and tree bark, and they often live in groups.
These monkeys also have a long history in Chinese culture. They have appeared in paintings, stories and local traditions for many years. However, they are now endangered. Only about 8,000 to 15,000 golden snub-nosed monkeys are left in the wild. The main problems they face are losing places to live, people cutting down forests and illegal hunting (非法捕猎).
China protects the monkeys carefully. Because they come from China, they cannot be sent to other countries without the government’s agreement. This is similar to the way China has protected and shared pandas with other countries.
Recently, a few golden snub-nosed monkeys were sent to zoos in Europe. Some went to France, and others went to Belgium. They will stay there for ten years. Their new homes include trees, ropes and climbing areas, so the monkeys can move in more natural ways.
Supporters say the program can help people in other countries learn about the monkeys and care more about protecting them. It may also support scientific research and international cooperation. However, some scientists worry that long journeys and new environments may bring stress to the animals. They believe the monkeys’ health should always come first.
It is still unknown whether golden snub-nosed monkeys will become as famous as pandas. But their journey shows that animal protection is not only about one country. It can also be a way for people around the world to learn, work together and protect rare animals.
23. What makes golden snub-nosed monkeys easy to recognize?
A. Their black fur and round faces. B. Their long tails and big eyes.
C. Their golden fur and blue faces. D. Their small ears and white noses.
24. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. What the monkeys often eat in forests. B. How the monkeys can finally travel to Europe.
C. Where the monkeys mainly live in China. D. Why the monkeys are important and in danger.
25. Why do some scientists worry about the program?
A. Because the monkeys may become too famous.
B. Because new places may make monkeys nervous.
C. Because European zoos have no climbing areas.
D. Because people may care less about pandas.
26. What does the monkeys’ journey show us?
A. Animal protection needs world efforts. B. Pandas are no longer famous animals.
C. Rare animals should be kept at home. D. Zoos can solve every animal problem.

Screens are part of daily life. We use them to study, talk with friends, watch videos and play games. Screens can be fun and useful, but spending too much time on them may make us miss out on other important things.
Health experts suggest that children and teenagers should not have more than two hours of screen time a day. This gives them time to read, exercise, talk face to face and sleep. The key is not to stop using screens completely, but to use them in a smart way.
Why is screen time so tempting? Psychologist Jonathan Haidt says many apps and games are designed to hold people’s attention. Bright colours, notices and rewards can make users want to keep watching or playing. When something feels exciting, the brain may want more of it. That is why ten minutes of short videos can easily become an hour.
However, not all screen time is bad. Some screen time can be helpful. For example, if you are chatting with family, looking up information for homework or learning something new, screens can support your life. The problem comes when screens take over your time and stop you from doing things that are good for your body and mind.
Emily, a 12-year-old girl, has made rules for using screens. She sometimes reads instead of watching screens. She also likes going for walks, because she can enjoy the scenery and get exercise at the same time. Her example shows that screen time can be balanced with real-life activities.
To make good choices, you can set a timer before using a screen. You can also keep your phone away while doing homework or before going to bed. Most importantly, use technology as a tool. Do not let it use you. When you control your screen time, you will have more time for learning, friendships and the world around you.
27. What does the underlined word “tempting” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Safe to use without any worry. B. Easy to finish in a short time.
C. Hard to stop using or enjoying. D. Boring to watch or play with.
28. How do many apps and games hold people’s attention?
A. By helping users make study plans. B. By asking users to take more walks.
C. By teaching users to sleep earlier. D. By giving users notices and rewards.
29. Why does the writer mention Emily?
A. To show a girl’s daily reading habit. B. To give an example of screen balance.
C. To prove children dislike using phones. D. To show walking is the best activity.
30. What does the sentence “Do not let it use you” mean?
A. People should stay in control of technology.
B. Technology should be kept away from schools.
C. People should use phones only for calling.
D. Technology can solve every daily problem.
