There will be plenty of flowers, food, and a disco if you feel like dancing. We might also have time for a quick game of golf, but if it rains, there is a pool table we could use. Because instead of being real life, it is impression management, a way of marketing yourself, carefully choosing and filtering (过滤) the picture and words to put your best face forward. Online “friends” made through social media do not follow the normal psychological progression of friendship. You share neither physical time nor emotional conversations over the Internet. You simply communicate photographs and catchy posts to a diverse group of people whom you have “friended” or “followed” based on an accidental communication. This is not to say that your social media friends can’t be real friends. They absolutely can, but the two are not the same. Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered photos on our social media pages because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely authentic (真实的) and we would be vulnerable (易受伤的) with some of our “friends” with whom trust has yet to be built. Social media can certainly be an escape from the daily routines, but we must be cautious about the negative effects on a person’s psychological well-being. As humans, we are eager for social connection. Scrolling (滚动) through pages of pictures and comments, however, does not provide the same degree of content as face-to-face communications do. Also, we tend to idealize others’ lives and compare our failures to their greatest achievements, ending in feelings of loneliness and lack of confidence. Social media can lead to unhealthy pursuit for perfection. Some people begin to attend certain events or travel to different places so that they can shoot that “perfect” photo. However, pictures and posts should be byproducts of life’s treasured moments and fun times, not the planned and calculated image that one is putting out into cyberspace in an attempt to fill insecurities or unmet needs. In conclusion, social media has increased our ability to connect with various types of people all over the globe. It has opened doors for business and allowed us to stay connected to people whom we may not otherwise get to follow. However, social media should feel like a fun experience, not one that contributes to negative thoughts and feelings. If the latter (后者) is the case, increasing face to face time with trusted friends and minimizing time scrolling online will prove to be a reminder that your real social network is much more rewarding than any “like”, “follow” or “share” can be. 28. How does social media affect our life ? A. It may improve our physical appearance. B. It may make us feel lonely and insecure. C. It may filter our negative impressions on others. D. It may enhance our communication skills. 29. Why do people always post filtered photos on social media? A. They do not want to lose their followers. B. They are eager to become famous overnight. C. They do not find all their online friends trustworthy. D. They want to avoid offending any of their audience. 30. What do humans tend to do on social media according to paragraph 4? A. Have more face-to-face communications. B. Exaggerate (夸大) their own achievements. C. Learn lessons from other people’s failures. D. Paint a rosy picture of other people’s lives. 31. What does the author advise when online experience becomes unpleasant in the last paragraph? A. Stay connected to online friends for suggestions. B. Strengthen ties with real-life friends instead of online friends. C. Connect with various types of people all over the globe. D. Avoid negative thoughts and feelings through online pages 【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. 根据第一段“Why does social media cause feelings of loneliness and lack of confidence? Because instead of being real life, it is impression management, a way of marketing yourself, carefully choosing and filtering the picture and words to put your best face forward.(为什么社交媒体会让人感到孤独和缺乏自信?因为这不是真实的生活,而是一种印象管理,一种推销自己的方式,仔细选择和过滤图片和文字,把你最好的一面展现出来。)”和第二段“Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered photos on our social media pages because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely authentic and we would be vulnerable with some of our “friends” with whom trust has yet to be built.(一般来说,我们的社交媒体页面上不会出现未经处理的照片,因为完全展现真实的自我可能会让人感到不安全,而且对于那些尚未建立起信任关系的“朋友”来说,这样做也会使我们处于不利地位)”可推知,社交媒体可能会让我们感到孤立和不安全。 根据第二段“Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered photos on our social media pages because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely authentic and we would be vulnerable with some of our “friends” with whom trust has yet to be built.(一般来说,我们的社交媒体页面上不会出现未经处理的照片,因为完全展现真实的自我可能会让人感到不安全,而且对于那些尚未建立起信任关系的“朋友”来说,这样做也会使我们易受伤害)”可推知,人们在社交媒体上有选择性地发布照片,是因为他们并不认为所有的网友都值得信赖。 根据第四段“Also, we tend to idealize others’ lives and compare our failures to their greatest achievements, ending in feelings of loneliness and lack of confidence.(此外,我们往往会将他人的生活理想化,并将自己的失败与他们的巨大成就进行对比,最终导致产生孤独感和缺乏自信的情绪)”可知,人们往往将别人的生活描绘一幅美好的画面。 根据最后一段“However, social media should feel like a fun experience, not one that contributes to negative thoughts and feelings. If the latter is the case, increasing face to face time with trusted friends and minimizing time scrolling online will prove to be a reminder that your real social network is much more rewarding than any “like”, “follow” or “share” can be.(然而,社交媒体应当是一种令人愉悦的体验,而非会引发消极想法和情绪的媒介。如果情况恰恰相反,即社交媒体让你感到沮丧,那么增加与可信赖朋友的面对面交流时间,并减少上网浏览的时间,将会提醒你,你真正的社交网络所带来的乐趣远胜于任何“点赞”、“关注”或“分享”所能带来的)”可知,当社交媒体让人产生了消极的感受时,作者建议人们加强与现实生活中的朋友而不是网上朋友的联系。故选B。 D For all the incredible advances in virtual reality devices, the worlds they generate still feel more virtual than real. That’s because much of the current development has focused on how those worlds look and sound. But humans experience the real world through many other senses--importantly touch. HaptX has spent more than a decade developing a haptic (触觉的) glove that simulates (模拟) the vivid sense of touch in the virtual world. The haptic glove applies advanced “microfluidic” technology. It starts with packed air, which is pushed into a device called an air controller. When a user interacts with an object in a virtual space, this controller sends air to specific points on the glove. The air fires actuators (促动器) housed inside the glove that press against the user’s palm and fingertips, providing haptic feedback that simulates “touching” the object. A “muscle system” also generates a resistive force that copies the virtual object’s size and shape. HaptX gave people the opportunity to try the device at a show in Las Vegas. In one demo, people used one hand to pet a cat and the other to touch a tree that was grown in a pot. The glove was able to provide discrepant feelings for each hand at the same time. The cat was smooth and continuous, while the tree stung people’s hands with thin sharp points. While the technology has a wide range of applications, the biggest one is training. The training opportunities include teaching pilots to fly planes, surgeons to perform surgery, and technicians to perform tricky repairs. If paired with a large language model AI, such simulated environments could help professionals like physical specialists improve the hands-on and social aspects of the job at the same time. Another area HaptX is exploring is the field of robotics. A robot equipped with skillful, human-like hands could be sent onto a site that is too dirty, dangerous, or distant for a human. It could work more precisely. If the operators were equipped with the glove, they could feel what the robots feel during their work while also keeping them safe. Looking ahead, HaptX plans to fine-tune its current development kit to make it more effective. “What’s real, and what’s virtual? That’s where we’re going,” HaptX’s chief officer concluded. 32. Why does the current virtual reality technology still feel virtual? A. It lacks interaction with the users. B. It fails to present high - quality scenes. C. It is limited to vision and sound senses. D. It suffers a delayed reaction to touch. 33. How does HaptX’s glove copy the feel of touch? A. By using air to activate haptic feedback. B. By guiding the users’ fingers and muscle. C. By using electricity to excite hand nerves. D. By controlling the airflow in the haptic glove. 34. What does the underlined word “discrepant” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Various. B. Different. C. Uncomfortable. D. Pleasant. 35. What could HaptX’s gloves be applied to do following their further application? A. Help robots protect people’s safety. B. Enhance people’s ability to do dangerous work. C. Develop people’s communication skills. D. Improve the quality of robots’ work. C 33. A 34. B 35. 根据文章第一段“That’s because much of the current development has focused on how those worlds look and sound. But humans experience the real world through many other senses—importantly touch.(这是因为当前的大部分开发都专注于这些世界的外观和声音。但人类通过许多其他感官来体验真实世界——最重要的是触觉)”可知,现在的虚拟现实技术仍然感觉很虚幻是由于它局限于视觉和听觉感官。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“It starts with packed air, which is pushed into a device called an air controller. When a user interacts with an object in a virtual space, this controller sends air to specific points on the glove. The air fires actuators (促动器) housed inside the glove that press against the user’s palm and fingertips, providing haptic feedback that simulates “touching” the object.(它从压缩空气开始,这些空气被推入一个叫做空气控制器的设备中。当用户与虚拟空间中的一个物体进行交互时,这个控制器将空气发送到手套上的特定点。安装在手套内的空气致动器会按压用户的手掌和指尖,提供模拟“触摸”物体的触觉反馈)”可知,HaptX的手套可以通过使用空气来激活触觉反馈来复制触摸的感觉。故选A。 根据划线词下文“The cat was smooth and continuous, while the tree stung people’s hands with thin sharp points.(猫是光滑的,连续的,而树用细尖刺人的手)”可知,手套可以同时为每只手提供不同的感觉。 根据文章倒数第二段“Another area HaptX is exploring is the field of robotics. A robot equipped with skillful, human-like hands could be sent onto a site that is too dirty, dangerous, or distant for a human. It could work more precisely. If the operators were equipped with the glove, they could feel what the robots feel during their work while also keeping them safe.(HaptX正在探索的另一个领域是机器人领域。 Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public and got laughed at? Say, have you accidentally knocked over the water when you were talking with someone? ___36___ And it’s okay — you should even have a laugh about them. ___37___ Most of us have insecurities, or feel bad about ourselves because of past misfortune. Although my parents were not wealthy, they always tried to turn special occasions into beautiful memories with each other. I was about to leave for school when my mother stopped me. “Wait a minute! We have something special for you!” my mother announced and offered me a shoebox. My eyebrows raised in surprise. This gift was surprising because the box looked like one of my favourite brands. When I lifted the lid, I screamed in delight. “Happy birthday, baby!” my mom said as I grabbed the popular basketball shoes and tried them on.“I got them from Mr. Byrne’s thrift shop (旧货店), but they look pretty new, right?” “I don’t care where they came from, Mom. They are amazing! Thank you so much!”I held them fondly. “I can’t wait to show them off at school!” Of course, I received lots of praise at school. Suddenly, Brandon, one of my classmates, shouted, “Look! There’s something written here!” I looked carefully and saw the words “To my dearest boy…” on a sole (鞋底). “Your mom probably wrote them,” Brandon stated. I shook my head. “My mom’s handwriting is not like this. It must be from the old owner.” I wondered about the words the rest of the day. Someone had really loved my sneakers, and maybe these shoes held much meaning to someone else. After school, I walked to Mr. Byrne’s store and asked around. The older man said, “Oh, they were brought in by a kid named Samuel. He lives in a red house nearby. Mrs. Gherkins’ son, I believe.” “Do you know why he sold them?” “Most people bring stuff here because they need money,” Mr. Byrne stated. I walked out of the store, thinking about how sad the boy probably was. I wanted to know what happened, so I looked around that street and soon spotted the red house. I walked up to the front steps and knocked on the door. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I returned home barefoot (赤脚的) and my parents were surprised. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: I walked up to the front steps and knocked on the door. Out came a kid, calling himself Samuel. After greeting, I came straight to the point, asking why the shoes went to the thrift shop. From Samuel’s hesitant words, I knew the fact that his family needed money badly because of his father’s sudden illness. Thus, Samuel had to give up the precious birthday gift. Moved by what he said, I took off the shoes and handed them to Samuel without hesitation, wishing his family all the best. Tears in eyes, Samuel thanked me again and again. Paragraph 2: I returned home barefoot and my parents were shocked. Before they could say anything, the whole story came pouring out. “The amazing shoes have been back to the owner, Samuel! There’s special meaning to him!” I asked my parents to forgive me for my immediate action without referring to their opinions. Instead of scolding (训斥) me, my parents went over and hugged me tightly, praising me for what I had done. Later on, I got another special pair of shoes for my birthday. Such a “small” but beautiful memory inspired me to be a better person. 放弃:give up/abandon ②. 责备:scold/blame ③. 拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①. 感动:moved/touched ②. 感谢:thank/show his appreciation/show his gratitude 【点睛】[高分句型1]. As humans we are eager for social connection. D. Avoid negative thoughts and feelings through online pages D For all the incredible advances in virtual reality devices, the worlds they generate still feel more virtual than real. Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public and got laughed at? Say have you accidentally knocked over the water when you were talking with someone? ___36___ And it’s okay — you should even have a laugh about them. ___37___ Most of us have insecurities, or feel bad about ourselves because of past misfortune. However, it’s normal to be imperfect. You should stop worrying about having to convince others of your worth or maintaining an ideal image of yourself. You should be honest with yourself about who you. are and accept yourself despite your weaknesses. You won’t be able to laugh at yourself without first accepting yourself. Being a little sceptical about yourself actually helps to promote your confidence. ___38___ And optimistic people tend to be more successful. This is because making fun of ourselves contributes to our mental health and helps lift our mood in the face of difficulties or embarrassment. More importantly, it helps us realize our own weaknesses so we know which areas to do better in. When you laugh at yourself, people will probably like you more because you’ re being real. While laughing at someone else may hurt their feelings even if you didn’t intend to, laughing at yourself does not — you might even bring a smile to their faces. ___39___ People actually appreciate it when you laugh at yourself. Laughing at yourself shows that you are being real about your imperfections. Just remember: it is human to make mistakes, and you have to accept yourself just as you are. ___40___ A. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
