Why do people cry? Scientists say the body produces tears because they need them. One kind of tears is for the eye, the other is for the heart. They both work as cleaners. If something else like dust(灰尘) gets into your eye, tears also come into the eye to clean it out. If you are hurt by something, your strong feelings produce some poisonous chemicals(毒素) in your body, and at the same time, tears come out with them. If these poisonous chemicals are not cleaned out of your body as soon as possible, they will do harm to the heart sooner or later.
In the United States men have heart problems more often than women do. Doctors say heart problems have something to do with the pressures(压力) of living and working now. Perhaps men suffer more from these illnesses because they do not cry enough. They need to cry more.

Nadia Comǎneci, a famous gymnast (体操运动员), was born in Romania in 1961.
When she was doing cartwheels (侧手翻) in the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics (体操).
After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. In 1975, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century.
In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the scoreboard showed 1.00!
Everyone was surprised. There wasn’t a sound for a moment. Then a voice came, “Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comǎneci…10!”
The audience (观众) cheered very loudly. So what happened? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10.00 was possible. The decimal point (小数点) was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits (数位) to show scores, such as 9.50 or 9.85 at that time.
In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comǎneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked upon as a hero. In 1984, she retired (退休的).
21. Nadia was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century in ________.
A. 1961 B. 1975 C. 1976 D. 1984
22. At first, the scoreboard showed Nadia got ________ in the Olympics in Canada.

B

根据后文“People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month.” F“In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States.”中的southern part对应后文的there,August对应后文的this month,符合语境。
前文提到“In the northeast and the middle west, it is very hot at some time and very cold at other time.”,选项D“People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.”

With the help of my teachers, I have ________ great ________ in English.
【答案】 ①. made ②. progress
The girls of Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team ________ ________ ________ in the Rio Olympics.
【答案】 ①. tried##did ②. their ③. best
题目设有三个空缺,应填tried/did;their;best。
Her heart ________ ________ ________ happiness.
【答案】 ①. is ②. filled/full ③. with/of
【详解】“充满”在英语中有两种常用表达: be filled with(被动语态结构,强调动作的结果);be full of(形容词短语结构,强调状态)。句子主语是Her heart(单数),时态为一般现在时,be动词用is。因此,两种正确填法为:① is ② filled ③ with或① is ② full ③ of。
We all want to ________ ________ ________ without ________.
【答案】 ①. live ②. a ③. life ④. regret##regrets
的生活”的常用表达是live a life,句中want to do sth. 故填live;a;life;regret/regrets。
Money doesn’t ________ happiness ________ most people.
【答案】 ①. mean ②. to
固定搭配sth. means sth. to sb(某物对某人来说意味着……),故填mean;to。

【详解】这是一篇给材料作文,以“A Role Model in My Daily Life”为主题,给我的笔友Peter 写信,介绍我日常生活中的榜样。 He is……,He teaches us how to……,Mr. Green sets a good example for……,I hope to be……
此处be friendly to, be patient with, try to do sth, teach sb sth, help sb do sth, be like, set a good example for sb, hope to do sth等这些词组的运用也让文章增色不少。
