二、阅读理解
Last Saturday, China held a press conference (新闻发布会) for the Shenzhou-23 manned spaceflight mission, which was launched at 11:08 pm on Sunday, May 24th. The three-member crew included commander Zhu Yangzhu (spaceflight engineer), pilot Zhang Zhiyuan, and payload specialist (载荷专家) Lai Ka-ying. Lai became the country’s first astronaut from Hong Kong to carry out a spaceflight mission.
Li was born in Hong Kong in November 1982. Before being chosen as a payload specialist in China’s fourth batch (批) of astronauts in June 2024, she worked as a superintendent (警司) in the Hong Kong Police Force. When the opportunity came, Li seized it with both hands. In 2022, China opened astronaut selection to Hong Kong and Macau for the first time. Matching all the requirements, Li didn’t hesitate to sign up for it. She fought off all the challenges and became an official astronaut two years later. Much tougher training followed, including 72 hours without sleep and 48 hours of desert survival.
On the Shenzhou-23 mission, Li will join in completing in-orbit crew rotation, space science experiments, and extravehicular activities. Her journey shows that dreams have no boundaries. As she encourages young people: “The space station might be far away, but your dreams aren’t.”
