B This year I am living abroad in Germany and trying to learn as much German as possible. But one thing I didn’t realize was how many new words I would face every day. I see and hear new words everywhere: the notices in the train station; menus in restaurants; the local newspaper and of course from my German-speaking friends. New words are all around you when you are in a foreign country. At first, a lot of German words I didn’t understand gave me a headache. I kept on looking up new words, but by the end of the day I had forgotten most of them already. It upset me. A month later, I went to a shop and bought a small notebook. I set myself the goal of writing five new words a day into my little blue notebook. Since then, in my bag, I have always carried an important thing — my little blue word notebook. I don’t have any rules about which words I write down. Most days I write down words that I learn from my partners at work, or words that I have read. I have also learned the names of many fruits and vegetables from looking at their labels in the supermarket — a very unexpected way of learning words. And I have learned many words that I have heard on TV or on the radio. If I hear a word that I even don’t know how to spell, I write down how I think it is and look it up later. My little blue word notebook is now like my closest friend. We are like Batman and Robin; we go everywhere together. Setting the small daily goal has made me feel much more in control of my language learning and I am already seeing an improvement. I will continue to use it for the rest of my stay in Germany and also when I return to university at home in September. 24. What surprised the author when living in Germany? A. By selecting the hardest grammar rules. 26. Why did the writer compare her notebook to Batman and Robin? A. To show the notebook is as famous as superheroes. B. To express her deep love and dependence on the notebook. C. To suggest she wants to be a superhero in language learning. D. To prove that learning German is as exciting as superhero stories. 27. What is the best title for the passage? A. How I Adapted to Life in Germany. B. How I Mastered German Grammar. C. How I Learned German with a Notebook. D. How I Realized the Value of Languages. C The word “manifest” has been chosen as Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2024. Manifest isn’t a new word; it’s been used since at least the 1400s to mean “clear” or “obvious. ” But as time went on, it had different meanings. Its modern meaning — “to imagine achieving something you want, with the belief that imagining it will make it happen” — was first used in the early 1900s. This is the version (版本) of the word that’s become popular today. Cambridge Dictionary’s Wendalyn Nicols explained that the Word of the Year is chosen based on three things: how popular the word is during the year, how it relates to important events, and how interesting it is as a word. And “manifest” was certainly popular — the word was looked up over 130, 000 times on the Cambridge Dictionary website in 2024. The word “manifest” gained traction thanks to celebrities (名人) like singer Dua Lipa, US gymnast Simone Biles, and England soccer player Ollie Watkins, who all said “manifesting” helped them achieve their goals. “Manifesting is a big thing for me, ” Dua Lipa told Time in April. The 2024 year was a big year for the singer, as she headlined the legendary Glastonbury music festival in England in June. As she stood on the stage, she shared how she had “manifested” the moment. “I’ve written this moment down and wished for it and dreamed it and worked so hard,” she said to the crowd. But not everyone is a fan of manifesting. Dr. Sander van der Linden, a psychologist from Cambridge University, believes manifesting is just “magical thinking” with no scientific proof that it actually works. “However, it is necessary to understand the difference between the power of positive thinking and moving reality with your mind — the former is healthy, while the latter is an unfounded belief,” he said. 28. What can we infer from paragraph 2? A. More people tend to dream big. B. Language can change over time. C. Homan imagination knows no limits. D. The meaning of a word matters most. 29. What does the underlined part “gained traction” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Got popular. B. Became clear. C. Remained important. D. Looked new. 30 What does Dua Lipa’s experience suggest? A. She is proud of her confidence. B. She enjoys every moment on stage. C. She credited her success to manifesting. D. She believed 2024 was a lucky year for singers. 31. What is Dr. Sander van der Linden’s attitude towards manifesting? A. Doubtful. B. Hopeful. C. Unconcerned. D. Surprised. D Tourists visiting La Gomera and EI Hierro in the Canary-Islands can often hear locals communicating over long distances by whistling-not a tune, but the Spanish language. The locals are communicating in Silbo, a whistled Spanish language. Whistled languages are almost developed in rough, mountainous regions or in thick forest. That’s because whistled speech carries much farther than ordinary speech or shouting. As a result, whistled speech can be understood up to 10 times as far away as ordinary shouting. That lets people communicate even when they cannot easily approach close enough to shout. On La Gomera, for example, a few traditional shepherds (牧羊人) still whistle to one another across mountain valleys that could take hours to cross. Whistled languages work because many of the key elements of speech can be produced in a whistle, says Meyer. We distinguish(区分) one speech sound from another by small differences in their sound frequency patterns. A long e, for example, is formed higher in the mouth than along o, giving it a higher sound. To language scientists, such languages are more than just a curiosity. By studying whistled languages, they hope to learn more about how our brains get meaning from the complex sound patterns of speech. Whistling may even provide a chance to know one of the most dramatic jump forward in human evolution(进化): the origin of language itself. Despite their interest to both language experts and casual observers whistled languages are disappearing rapidly all over the world, and some, such as the whistled form of the Tepehua language in Mexico, have already disappeared. “...now you still find whistled speech only in places that are very, very remote, that have had less contact with modernity and less access to roads,” Meyer says. Fortunately, there is still hope. UNESCO, the UN cultural organization, has listed two whistled languages, Silbo, and a whistled Turkish, as the world’s cultural heritage. Such attention can lead to conservation efforts. 32. What led to the development of whistled languages? A. Geographic inaccessibility. B. Rapid increase in tourism. C. Greater information capacity. D. Interest of language experts. 33. Why are a long “e” and a long “o” mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To show what key elements speech has. B. To explain the differences between speech sound frequency patterns. C. To prove the popularity of whistled language in the world. D. To compare whistled languages and ordinary languages. 34. What might be a reason for the disappearance of whistled languages according to Meyer? A. Construction of cities. B. Lack of attention. C. Expansion of other cultures. D. Modernization. 35. Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A. Why People Used Whistled Languages B. When Whistles Languages Disappeared C. How Whistled Languages Developed D. Why Whistled Languages Matter 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Tips for Floodwater Safety Floodwater can be a hotbed for bacteria (细菌) which carry diseases. ____36____ You should avoid floodwater whenever possible. At a national park. B. At a diving center. C. At a school. 18. How did the speaker mostly contact her family? A. By writing letters. B. By posting blogs. C. By making phone calls. 19. What was the speaker’s unexpected challenge? A. The language. B. The food. C. The weather. 20. What is the speaker’s opinion on taking a gap year? A. Beneficial. B. Difficult. C. Necessary. 【答案】17. B 18. B 19. C 20. A 【解析】 【原文】 W: I’m glad to be here to talk about my gap year, which took place over two decades ago. I decided to go to the island of Bali. I really wanted to volunteer at a national park, but I was too late to apply so I went for a job at a diving center. This turned out to be better than what I considered, like helping in a school. When it comes to packing, obviously you need your travel documents, your phone and charger. Then think about any medicine you might need. How did I stay in touch with family? When I first arrived, I wrote a letter every week. They took at least four weeks to arrive though. Then, when I met someone else who had a blog, I realized that that’s the thing to do. A phone call is nice, but the time difference can make that difficult. There are lots of things you’ll need to adapt to when you’re in another country. The language of course. But luckily, so many people speak English. And I knew I’d struggle with the hot food. I hadn’t realized the effect the climate would have on us, though. Generally speaking, I really enjoyed my time away. It’s a good way to make friends, and you gain confidence too. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 A Four of the World’s Disasters The following four disasters destroyed cities around the world. A. The high cost of living in Germany. B. The difficulty of learning German grammar. C. The new German words she encountered daily. D. The unfriendliness of local German speakers. 25. How does the author choose words for the notebook? A. By asking friends to dictate words. B. By noting down any unfamiliar words. C. By copying restaurant menus entirely. D. 【答案】24. C 25. B 26. B 27. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者在德国学习德语时,通过记录生词来提高语言能力的经历。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“But one thing I didn’t realize was how many new words I would face every day. (但我没有意识到的一件事是,我每天会遇到多少新单词)”可知,作者在德国生活时,每天都会遇到很多新的德语单词,这让她感到惊讶。故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“I don’t have any rules about which words I write down. Most days I write down words that I learn from my partners at work, or words that I have read. (我没有规定要写哪些单词。大多数时候,我会写下从工作伙伴那里学到的单词,或者读到的单词)”可知,作者没有特定的规则来选择要记在笔记本上的单词,而是记下任何不熟悉的单词。故选B。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“My little blue word notebook is now like my closest friend. We are like Batman and Robin; we go everywhere together. (我的蓝色小单词笔记本现在就像我最亲密的朋友。我们就像蝙蝠侠和罗宾;我们走到哪里都在一起)”可知,作者将笔记本比作蝙蝠侠和罗宾,以此表达她对笔记本的深厚感情和依赖。故选B。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段中“At first, a lot of German words I didn’t understand gave me a headache. (起初,大量我不懂的德语单词让我头疼不已。我不断地查阅新单词,可到了一天结束时,大部分单词我已经忘得差不多了。这让我很沮丧。一个月后,我去了一家商店,买了一本小笔记本。我给自己定下目标,每天在小蓝本上记五个新单词。从那以后,我的包里总是装着一件重要的东西——我的蓝色小单词笔记本)”和第四段中“Setting the small daily goal has made me feel much more in control of my language learning and I am already seeing an improvement. (设定这个小目标让我感觉更能掌控自己的语言学习,而且我已经看到了进步)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者在德国学习德语时,通过每天记录五个新单词的方法来提高自己的语言能力。因此,选项C“How I Learned German with a Notebook (我是如何用笔记本学习德语的)”最能概括文章的主旨,可以作为最佳标题。故选C。 C The word “manifest” has been chosen as Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2024. D. Looked new. 30. What does Dua Lipa’s experience suggest? D. Surprised. 【答案】28. B 29. A 30. C 31. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要解释了“manifest”一词被选为2024年《剑桥词典》年度词汇的原因,包括其历史含义、现代含义、流行程度以及与名人和重要事件的关联,同时还提及了不同人对“manifesting”现象的看法。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Manifest isn’t a new word; it’s been used since at least the 1400s to mean “clear” or “obvious. ” But as time went on, it had different meanings. Its modern meaning — “to imagine achieving something you want, with the belief that imagining it will make it happen” — was first used in the early 1900s. This is the version (版本) of the word that’s become popular today.(Manifest并不是一个新词;至少从15世纪开始,它就被用来表示“清楚的”或“明显的”。但随着时间的推移,它有了不同的含义。它的现代含义是“想象实现你想要的东西,并相信想象会使它实现”,在20世纪初首次使用。这是这个词今天很流行的版本)”可知,从本段可推断语言会随着时间而改变。故选B项。 【29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据后文“thanks to celebrities (名人) like singer Dua Lipa, US gymnast Simone Biles, and England soccer player Ollie Watkins, who all said “manifesting” helped them achieve their goals.(由于歌手杜瓦·利帕、美国体操运动员西蒙娜·拜尔斯和英格兰足球运动员奥利·沃特金斯等名人,他们都说“manifest”一词帮助他们实现了目标)”可知,由于名人的推广,所以manifest这个词得到了广泛的关注,推知gained traction为“广为人知”之意,和A项意思相近。故选A项。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““Manifesting is a big thing for me, ” Dua Lipa told Time in April. The 2024 year was a big year for the singer, as she headlined the legendary Glastonbury music festival in England in June. As she stood on the stage, she shared how she had “manifested” the moment. “I’ve written this moment down and wished for it and dreamed it and worked so hard,” she said to the crowd.(“manifesting对我来说是件大事,”Dua Lipa在四月接受《时代》杂志采访时表示。2024年对这位歌手来说意义重大,因为她在6月担任了英国传奇格拉斯顿伯里音乐节的头牌艺人。站在舞台上,她分享了自己是如何“manifested”这一时刻的。“我把这个时刻写下来,许下愿望,梦想着它,并为此付出了巨大努力,”她对观众说道)”可知,Dua Lipa把自己的成功归功于manifesting。故选C项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“But not everyone is a fan of manifesting. Dr. Sander van der Linden, a psychologist from Cambridge University, believes manifesting is just “magical thinking” with no scientific proof that it actually works. “However, it is necessary to understand the difference between the power of positive thinking and moving reality with your mind — the former is healthy, while the latter is an unfounded belief,” he said.(但并不是每个人都喜欢manifesting。剑桥大学的心理学家Sander van der Linden博士认为,manifesting只是“神奇的想法”,没有科学证据证明它确实有效。他说:“然而,有必要了解积极思考的力量和用头脑改变现实之间的区别——前者是健康的,而后者是毫无根据的信念。”)”可知,Sander van der Linden博士认为,manifesting只是“神奇的想法”,没有科学证据证明它确实有效,所以是怀疑的。故选A项。 D Tourists visiting La Gomera and EI Hierro in the Canary-Islands can often hear locals communicating over long distances by whistling-not a tune, but the Spanish language. Despite their interest to both language experts and casual observers, whistled languages are disappearing rapidly all over the world, and some, such as the whistled form of the Tepehua language in Mexico, have already disappeared. Why Whistled Languages Matter 【答案】32. A 33. B 34. D 35. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要介绍口哨语言的优势,特征,形成的原因和现状。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Whistled languages are almost developed in rough, mountainous regions or in thick forest. That’s because whistled speech carries much farther than ordinary speech or shouting. As a result, whistled speech can be understood up to 10 times as far away as ordinary shouting. That lets people communicate even when they cannot easily approach close enough to shout. (口哨几乎是在粗糙的山区或茂密的森林中发展起来的。这是因为吹口哨的讲话比普通的讲话或叫喊要远得多。因此,吹口哨讲话的理解力是普通叫喊的10倍。这让人们即使在无法轻易靠近大喊大叫的情况下也能进行交流。)”可知,人们在沟通时,地理位置的不便促进了口哨语言的发展。故选A。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“We distinguish(区分) one speech sound from another by small differences in their sound frequency patterns. A long e, for example, is formed higher in the mouth than along o, giving it a higher sound. (我们通过声音频率模式的微小差异来区分一种语音和另一种语音。例如,长e在口腔中形成的位置比沿着o的位置高,从而发出更高的声音。)”可知,文中提到长e和o是为了证明声音频率模式的不同。故选B。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段““...now you still find whistled speech only in places that are very, very remote, that have had less contact with modernity and less access to roads,” Meyer says. (迈耶说:“……现在,你仍然只能在非常、非常偏远的地方发现吹口哨的情况,这些地方与现代性的接触较少,道路也较少。”)”可知,在迈耶看来,现代化是口哨语言消失的原因。故选D。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段“Whistled languages are almost developed in rough, mountainous regions or in thick forest. That’s because whistled speech carries much farther than ordinary speech or shouting. (口哨几乎是在粗糙的山区或茂密的森林中发展起来的。这是因为吹口哨的讲话比普通的讲话或叫喊要远得多。)”和第五段““...now you still find whistled speech only in places that are very, very remote, that have had less contact with modernity and less access to roads,” Meyer says. (迈耶说:“……现在,你仍然只能在非常、非常偏远的地方发现吹口哨的情况,这些地方与现代性的接触较少,道路也较少。”)”可知,这篇文章讲述了口哨语言从发展起来到如今衰落,由此可知,文章主要介绍口哨语言的发展。故选C。 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Tips for Floodwater Safety Floodwater can be a hotbed for bacteria (细菌) which carry diseases. ____36____ You should avoid floodwater whenever possible.
