Passage 2
“Life is not easy for any of us. We must have perseverance, and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for 1 and that this thing must be 2 .” — Marie Curie. I believe this 3 is true. In some cases life can be difficult to persevere because you may 4 at any moment. Some people don’t like to make their ways forward and keep going. Sometimes it is most comfortable to 5 . These people often turn in the wrong direction. I 6 that as long as they persevere, they can get through the challenges and 7 reach their goal.
When in Grade 8, I was assigned to 8 a literary essay on each Friday. The task was very challenging, and I couldn’t find time to both read books and write an essay about it. I 9 wish I would have tried harder and put as much 10 into the essay as possible. I always seemed to be close to writing a successful essay. However, I 11 consult related materials needed and often made it harder on myself. The essay I wrote first was a 12 . This made me realize that what I had done was not enough and I must change my 13 and try my very best. Before writing I’d looked through a lot of books related to my essay. Gathering materials in the library was very 14 , but I never gave up. Because I made good preparations, my essay was well written. For that I was 15 by my teacher.
I see perseverance in many 16 people around me. They have abilities to complete tasks on time, regardless of how much they 17 them. I hope that in the future I will be able to persevere more frequently and 18 . I believe working hard will pay off. Now I’m on my way to becoming a writer. I know realizing my goal isn’t 19 , and it takes determination and effort. However, I believe if I keep up my 20 and persevere, I’ll probably make it come true.

Looking back, I may have joined for fitness and fresh air, but I stayed for the people. For a lot of people, becoming a millionaire is a 1 of success and they set this as their 2 goal. But do all millionaires get the sense of success they were looking for after they 3 their goals? Some continue to worry about money when they become 4 . However, there are people who have turned their 5 on their millions and found other forms of success in their lives. Jason Harley is one example.
Sixteen years ago, Jason was a college professor with a huge house and a 6 of two million dollars. Today he lives in a small dormitory room with only second-hand furniture. There are certainly no 7 that Jason is a rich and successful man
But Jason 8 this change. He is pleased to give up the 9 of a rich man. He was tired of being regarded as living a successful life, as a person who had 10 while many people had nothing. He made the choice to 11 all his money.
“What I want is to live simply and be 12 to others. A few years ago, I was a millionaire, but I knew millions of people 13 hunger every year, and there were places with no schools and no teachers. They didn’t have the chance to learn and 14 in life. This worried me a lot and I felt very 15 being a rich man without doing anything.”
16 he gave away all his money to charities. “It was a real sense of success that I had never felt before,” said Jason. “Many people think that ‘success’ means having a 17 job or millions in the bank. But I think my sense of 18 comes from helping others and finding true meaning in life.”
Most people believe when they are earning enough money, they will have no worries. However, most people never feel they have earned enough. Jason Harley decided to 19 this kind of lifestyle. “Success is not 20 by how much money you have but by how you understand the true meaning of life.”
