Those simple words made Wang’s eyes wet—for most children, they are just common sentences after school. But for Beibei, it took more than four years of hard work to say them out loud.
Beibei was found to have autism when he was two years old. At that time, he never spoke, never looked at others, and even had no body language to show his feelings. He just stayed quietly in his own little world, like a lonely star in the sky.
To help her son, Wang made a big decision: she gave up her job and spent all her time on Beibei’s recovery (康复). Every morning, she took him to the hospital for treatment. Every afternoon, they went to the recovery center. On weekends, Beibei also had art training to open his heart.
Day after day, with Wang’s full love and patience, Beibei made slow but great progress. He began to speak simple words, learn to take care of himself, and even make a little eye contact with others. When he was four, he started to go to kindergarten for half a day. It was a small step for others, but a very important moment for Beibei and his family.
In China, children with autism are called “star children”. Now, more and more people care about them. Shenzhen has built special centers to help them, and the government also provides support for their growth and study. With love and care, these “star children” will surely shine in their own way.

Passage 10
Many students think learning is boring and has nothing to do with their lives. As a teacher, I try my best to change that. I bring my personal hobbies into class to make learning livelier. I love cars very much, so I often use cars to explain science knowledge.
Once, I took different tires to my science class. We did simple and interesting experiments to learn how friction (摩擦力) works. This way made the lesson fun and easy to understand. This way of teaching is part of our school’s idea—“Learning by Doing and Thinking Together”. It helps students get knowledge from real-life situations.
At first, I only hoped my students would love science. But a nice change took place. When I shared my love for cars, students who also liked cars talked with me more actively. They became much more active in class. Even students who didn’t care about cars felt closer to me. They found I was not just a strict teacher, but a real person with my own interests. We built a much better teacher-student relationship, and our classroom turned into a place for us to think and learn together.
Now, sharing my hobbies has become part of my teaching. It helps me teach better and makes students curious about new things. They clearly see how school subjects connect with real life. Most importantly, my passion encourages them to find their own hobbies and interests. This special teaching method helps students get useful knowledge and improve their thinking skills at the same time.
1. What is one problem the writer mentions about students?
A.They don’t think learning is interesting. B.They don’t like all school subjects at all.
C.They have no personal hobbies or interests. D.They refuse knowledge from real-life situations.
2. Why did the writer bring different tires to the class?
A.To teach students to drive cars. B.To give a lesson on making tires.
C.To show how friction works in life. D.To help students clean the classroom.
3. What does the underlined word “passion” mean according to the English dictionary?
A.[U] a state of being very angry
B.[U] a very strong feeling of sexual love
C.[C] a very strong feeling of liking something
D.[C, U] a very strong feeling of love, hatred, anger, etc.
4. What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To ask students to love cars. B.To tell a story of a teacher’s life.
C.To explain what friction means. D.To show how hobbies help teaching.
A 2. C 3. C 4. D

3. 最后一段“Now, sharing my hobbies has become part of my teaching...my passion encourages them to find their own hobbies and interests.”
Passage 11
My wife Hannah and I don’t usually keep houseplants. Anything in pots always ends up either over-watered or under-watered. But after I received bad news about my health, I began to want something green in our home to feel better.
At that time, my friend Mitch came to give me a plant called lucky bamboo. It stood straight in the pot. I fell in love with it at once and decided to take care of it. I put it by the window where sunlight could shine in. Every morning, I gave it a little water and gently cleaned its leaves.
For weeks, the bamboo thrived. Its leaves were soft and bright green and it grew taller and stronger every day. But gradually, thin yellow spots (斑点) began to spread along the edges of the leaves. I watered it more often and added special plant food, hoping it would be well soon. However, no matter what I did, the leaves stayed yellow. Each day, I stood quietly by the window for a long time, watching the weak plant, wondering if it and I would both be able to go through the difficulties.
One evening, Hannah noticed my silence. “You’ve cared for it with all your heart each day,” she said softly. “Sometimes growth takes time, and recovering (恢复) needs time too.”
Hearing her words, I was no longer worried. At that moment, the weak bamboo standing before me inspired me to keep moving forward, just as I was trying my best to help it recover.
I kept caring for it patiently. Slowly, new green leaves appeared. And the leaves danced gently in the wind. It seems to say that hope is returning slowly.

Passage 12
① This weekend, tickets for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles became available to everyone. But they are not cheap at all: tickets for popular events like swimming and basketball already cost thousands of dollars. Even the cheapest “local” tickets are much more expensive than those sold during the city’s last Olympic Games in 1984.
② Many people think the tickets are too pricey and can’t afford them. However, high ticket prices may not be the biggest problem for the 2028 Games. There is a more serious thing that worries people all over the world.
③ Rising temperatures are the biggest worry. In the 1980s, the highest temperature in Los Angeles in August was 40.5℃, and the average temperature over those ten years was 35.7℃. Even back then, the heat made athletes feel worried.
④ Today, such hot weather is very common and happens more often. This March, Palm Springs — a city near Los Angeles — had a serious heat wave that lasted for several days, with temperatures reaching 42℃. This change shows that the weather there is getting hotter every year. It will probably be even hotter in 2028.
⑤ This is bad news for the 2028 Olympic Games. Extreme heat is harmful to athletes. It makes them feel tired easily and they may easily lose lots of water and get heat stroke (热射病). This is especially true for athletes in long-duration events, like long-distance running and cycling, which require them to keep moving for a long time.
⑥ As climate change makes temperatures higher and higher, competing in such hot weather is becoming normal. The last two Summer Olympics, in Tokyo and Paris, were among the hottest ever. People are worried that the 2028 Los Angeles Games will be even hotter and bring more troubles to athletes.
1. What do we know about the 2028 Olympic Games?
A.There will be more popular events. B.The host city is mainly in Las Vegas.
C.The temperatures will be comfortable. D.The tickets cost more than those in 1984.
2. What does the underlined phrase “This change” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Los Angeles had the highest temperature in the 1980s.
B.Heat waves seldom appeared in Los Angeles in the past.
C.The weather in Los Angeles is getting hotter year by year, as shown by the serious heat wave in Palm Springs this March.
D.More athletes may suffer from heat stroke in hot weather.
3. Which of the following athletes would be most harmed by extreme heat?
A.A high jumper doing a single quick jump.
B.A cyclist competing in a two-hour-long race.
C.A swimmer finishing a short-distance program.
D.A table tennis player playing a fast-paced match.
4. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Athletes need to prepare well for different Olympic events.
B.People are looking forward to the coming Olympic Games.
C.The 2028 Olympic Games will be more exciting than ever.
D.Hot weather may bring big trouble to the 2028 Olympic Games.
D 2. C 3. B 4. D
第一段提到“Even the cheapest ‘local’ tickets are much more expensive than those sold during the city’s last Olympic Games in 1984.”,这直接说明2028年奥运会的门票比1984年的更贵。
2. 第四段提到Palm Springs出现的严重热浪现象,引出了“This change shows that the weather there is getting hotter every year.”,这里的“This change”指代的是“当地天气逐年变热的趋势”。
3. 第五段说明原因“This is especially true for athletes in long-duration events, like long-distance running and cycling, which require them to keep moving for a long time.”,因此耗时最长、持续运动的自行车比赛运动员受极端高温影响最大。
Passage 13
I’ve always believed in sports, but I simply didn’t get along. I just hated sports. In school, I was known to be often secretly “sick” on sports day. My mom was my partner, writing notes (假条) about my “bad foot” to get me out of PE.
Then came the invitation. A close friend asked me to his birthday football game. “Absolutely not,” a voice shouted from the bottom of my heart. But it was his birthday. So, with a heavy heart, I went — fully planning to stand safely at the side and just watch.
But something unexpected happened the moment I stepped onto the grass. I found myself following the ball. I even kicked it once, passing to a teammate, and we both started laughing. When someone scored, I cheered without thinking. I was… having fun.
When my mother heard about it, she was surprised. “Football? Really?” she asked, remembering all her old notes. “In fact, it was pretty good,” I said.
Now, every Sunday finds me in the football field with friends. Why do I keep going back? It’s more than exercise or friendship. It’s the simple joy of doing something just because it’s fun.
The best part? My mom, who used to be my note-writer, saw me putting on my football shoes one day and said, “Well, if you can try something new, maybe I can too.” Soon after, she joined a local walking group!
Looking back, I never imagined kicking a ball could change something. But it did. It taught me that joy often waits on the other side of “I can’t”. Why not give something you hate a chance, too?
1. Why did the writer avoid PE?
A.He was busy with homework. B.He had a real foot problem.
C.He wanted to meet his friends. D.He disliked doing sports.
2. How did the writer feel after the birthday football game?

第一段中提到“I just hated sports.”以及“My mom was my partner, writing notes about my ‘bad foot’ to get me out of PE.”,这说明作者逃避体育课是因为他不喜欢运动。
My mom... saw me putting on my football shoes... she joined a local walking group!”,这说明“最好的部分”是妈妈也尝试了新事物。
Passage 14
Can you believe it? Middle school textbooks are leaving classrooms and showing up in the most amazing places—like the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and Big Ben in London! This fun trend is called a “treasure hunt” and it’s getting popular online. Chinese travelers take their old textbooks to the famous spots printed on the book covers, and then hide them in secret corners for the next lucky person to find.
A traveler named Xiao Jiayu recently joined the game. She followed the information online and found a small stone hole near the pyramids. Then she brushed the sand off it with a stick carefully. Finally, she found a history book! When she pulled the history book from the small stone hole, she felt really excited! It was the same kind of book she used to read in middle school. She didn’t know who left it, but lifting that book in front of the ancient pyramids felt really special.
In London, another visitor had a bigger surprise—she found six textbooks near Big Ben in just one morning, with sweet handwritten notes like “Keep trying, you’re great!” and “Travel to other places, and find your true self.” These little messages made her day!
People who join this treasure hunt are very careful with the books. They put waterproof covers on them and leave new pens to help the “textbook relay” go on. For the players, this isn’t just a game—it’s a wonderful experience. Old textbooks are like a bridge between their childhood dreams and adult life, and the handwritten notes make a special connection between strangers who speak Chinese. As one popular comment says, “We use English to travel around the world, but Chinese is the language that connects our hearts.”

C(Cheered her up and made her feel happy)。
3. 根据文章第四段“They put waterproof covers on them and leave new pens to help the ‘textbook relay’ go on.”

As one popular comment says, “We use English to travel around the world, but Chinese is the language that connects our hearts.”
