has begun已经开始;has started已经开始;had been on已进行;began开始。根据“The film…for ten minutes when we got to the cinema.”

It was a stormy night in November when I first met “Old Jack” at the homeless shelter. He sat in the corner, silently reading a worn-out copy of Moby Dick. Unlike others who often complained or slept, Jack carried himself with a quiet dignity. I was a volunteer then, young and idealistic, believing that a warm meal and a bed could solve everything. Jack taught me otherwise.
One evening, he pointed to a sentence in the book: “It is not down in any map; true places never are.” He said, “That’s where I’ve been living my whole life—in places no map shows.” I didn’t understand then. Over weeks, I learned that Jack had been a literature professor at a small college until a family tragedy 41 him into depression and eventually onto the streets. He never begged; he never asked for sympathy. What he 42 was not money or food, but someone to listen to his interpretations of Melville or Whitman. The shelter manager thought he was crazy. I thought he was the sanest person I knew.
One day, the city announced a plan to tear down the shelter for a luxury apartment complex. The residents were 43 —where would they go? Jack surprised everyone. He wrote a letter to the city council, quoting from legal texts and historical preservation acts, arguing that the building itself had been a haven for a century. His words were so 44 and well-structured that the council delayed the demolition. A local newspaper picked up the story. People donated funds, and the shelter was saved. When asked how he knew all that, Jack simply smiled and said, “I used to teach rhetoric. 45 you know how to use language, you can fight anything.”
For the first time, I saw the other residents look at Jack with respect, not pity. He became an unofficial leader, organizing reading circles and even teaching basic literacy to those who wanted to learn. He never tried to leave the shelter, even when offers of housing came. “I’ve found my ‘true place’,” he told me. “It’s not about four walls. It’s about being 46 to someone who needs a story.”
Months later, I finished my volunteer term and moved away. Last year, I heard that Jack had passed away peacefully in his sleep. The shelter named its library after him. Whenever I feel lost or 47 , I recall Jack’s weathered face and the fire in his eyes when he spoke of Ishmael’s journey. He taught me that every person carries a universe inside them, often hidden beneath layers of hardship. We are so quick to 48 based on appearances, yet so slow to listen. Jack never wanted to be saved; he wanted to be seen. And in seeing him, I learned that compassion is not about fixing others but about 49 their reality without judgment. That night, I had thought I was giving him a meal. In truth, he was feeding my soul. Some gifts are never 50 on any receipt.

根据前文“He never begged; he never asked for sympathy”及后文“not money or food, but someone to listen to his interpretations”可知,此处表达他内心真正渴求的事物,craved(渴望,渴求)符合语境;deserved(应得)、lacked(缺乏)、offered(提供)均无法体现他对被倾听的强烈向往,不符合语境,故排除。

根据“or”连接的并列关系,与“lost”并列的应是消极情绪,discouraged(沮丧的,灰心的)符合语境;thrilled(激动的)、ashamed(羞愧的)、guilty(内疚的)均与“迷茫”的情绪不匹配,不符合语境,故排除。

根据前文“he wanted to be seen(他想要被看见)”可知,此处表达同情的核心是正视他人的真实处境,witnessing(见证,正视)符合语境;questioning(质疑)、changing(改变)、escaping(逃避)均与“不带评判地看见”的含义不符,不符合语境,故排除。

What do you want to say to your future self?
Liu Yixin Posted 2 hours ago
I want to tell my future self: don’t give up playing the piano! I started when I was seven. Life may get busy, but music makes life rich. I also hope I get into my dream school. But if I don’t, that’s okay too. Happiness and health matter more than anything. Give yourself a big hug!
Li Zhaoyan Posted 1 hour ago
I hope my future self still writes songs. Music helps me feel better when life gets noisy. I don’t want to live a meaningless life. I also hope I am happy. Life may have challenges, but I need to accept who I am and cherish what I have. Remember: no one is perfect!

I used to measure my life by likes, views and shares—my phone was my third eye. When my parents announced a family trip to Iceland, my inner algorithm (算法) immediately jumped to the likes and comments this trip could bring.
The first few days of the trip were perfect. I photographed famous glaciers and waterfalls. Each post performed well. But on the fifth day, my father pointed to an unmarked place on the map. “There’s a waterfall here,” he said. “No tourist buses go there. We’ll walk.”
“Three hours to see a waterfall that’s not even on the tourist map? Unknown, no signal (信号) and such a waste of time,” I complained.
“This one is different,” he simply smiled.
Unwillingly, I followed him, my phone dying in my pocket. The walk felt long with nothing to film. Before we saw anything, the powerful sound of rushing water reached us. Suddenly, there it was—a huge white wall of water.
With nothing to do, I dropped onto a rock and stared at my dead phone. At first, the silence was painful. Slowly, the sound of the rushing waterfall filled the emptiness. I finally felt at peace. Watching the mist (雾气) rise over the green rocks, I felt cool water on my face—real, not fake, the kind of beauty no screen could truly show.
Time felt slow. My worry about likes and post plans felt small and silly against this ancient power. Here was something beautiful, with no one watching, never getting shared or liked. Its value wasn’t in being seen; it was simply in being.
The walk back felt lighter. I didn’t take a single photo.
Back home, something felt different. When a breathtaking sunset painted the sky, my first thought was not to take a photo, but to say to my sister, “Look!”
My algorithm had been quietly rewritten. It no longer asked “Is this shareable?” Instead, it asked “Is this meaningful?” The trip gave me something far more valuable: the ability to be present in my own life, to find worth that no screen could ever measure.
59.What did the writer focus on in the first few days of the Iceland trip?
A.Learning about Iceland geography.
B.Planning the best way to the waterfall.
C.Exploring unmarked places with his father.
D.Posting life moments for online popularity.
60.How did the writer finally feel at the unmarked waterfall?
A.Calm. B.Excited. C.Painful. D.Unwilling.
61.What does the writer learn from his experience?
A.Praise brings happiness.
B.Travelling offers relaxation.
C.Sharing comes before the sights.
D.True experience teaches presence.

Have you ever written letters? Letter writing is a traditional way to make friends who live far away feel closer. Letters can cross time and space. They build up a relationship that’s hard to find in today’s digital world. On 8 September, 2024, Jin Xiaoyu held a book sharing event for The Letters of Walter Benjamin. The book has over 300 letters from Walter Benjamin, a famous writer from Germany. These letters show deep friendship between Benjamin and his friends. The Letters of Walter Benjamin reminds us of the importance of keeping in touch with others through letters.
In the past, sending or receiving letters by horse or by bird was usual. However, this form of communication seems less common today. Now children can hardly enjoy this kind of joy. A group named ReachOut provided teenagers with chances to write letters about their feelings and experiences. Linda Williams, a worker of ReachOut, said, “Letter writing can help us express feelings. And it also helps us keep in touch with others.”
Dr Maria Nicholas from Deakin University said, “Handwriting is still an important part of the school course. It is good for children’s learning, reading and memory.” Also, she advised children to write letters to friends, family, or their favorite writers. The experiences are useful for children. They make children express their feelings more often through writing.
All in all, letter writing is a special way to connect with others and express ourselves. It’s a tradition worth continuing, especially for young people. As Dr Nicholas said, letter writing in schools is good for children’s learning. Let’s encourage children to experience the joy of writing letters.
62.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By telling a story. B.By asking a question.
C.By showing a fact. D.By singing a song.
63.Which of the following would Linda Williams most probably agree with?
A.Letter writing is bad for friendship.
B.People can communicate by writing letters.
C.Letter writing can help children improve speaking skills.
D.Writing letters wastes time.
64.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Handwriting. B.A letter. C.The school course. D.An email.
65.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.A Book Sharing Event. B.The History of Writing Letters.
C.The Importance of Letter Writing. D.Explore life.

根据文章第一段第一句“Have you ever written letters?”(你写过信吗?)
63.根据第二段中Linda Williams说的话“And it also helps us keep in touch with others.”(它也能帮助我们与他人保持联系)可知,她认为写信是一种沟通方式,有助于人们保持联系。
64.根据第三段“Handwriting is still an important part of the school course.”(书写仍然是学校课程的重要组成部分)以及“It is good for children’s learning...”(它对孩子们的学习……

Changing our lives
COVID-19 has made people think harder about their relationship with nature. It has also raised questions about urban (城市的) lifestyles. The sharing economy (共享经济), working in open offices, living in crowded apartments and the food industry’s use of reusable products have made the perfect storm for a pandemic (大流行).
Although the sharing economy might be good – it’s cheaper to rent than to own – sharing spaces and objects are great ways to spread the virus. How does one do “social distancing (和他人保持安全距离)” when they are expected to share cars, bikes, apartments and even the same offices?
The trend (趋势) of using open offices, which can save space, is working against us. In this type of office, workers don’t have their own desk – everything is shared. Sometimes, computers and chairs are also shared, which is not hygienic (卫生的). Fortunately, more workers are working from home during the pandemic, but that won’t last forever.
Reusability (循环利用) is a common practice in the restaurant industry. Reusable cups and chopsticks are often used. Unfortunately, reusable products increase the chance of spreading disease. For example, Starbucks recently stopped refilling (重新装满) customers’ reusable cups in order to stop the spread of the virus.
People like to be social. But the virus has made this more dangerous. We have to be careful about how we interact (交往) with others for now. Perhaps we need to rethink about our lifestyles to reduce the spread of future pandemics.
66.The paragraph (段) 3 is mainly about ________.
A.how working at home won’t last long B.how shared offices can save space
C.the hygienic problems of open offices D.the sharing economy trend
67.According to the author (作者), restaurants can spread the virus easily because ________.
A.everything is shared in many restaurants
B.they use too much disposable tableware
C.many restaurants have poor hygiene
D.cups and chopsticks are often reused
68.The author probably agrees that _____________.
A.we need to change some of our lifestyles
B.the sharing economy won’t last forever
C.no one can stay out of the sharing economy
D.we shouldn’t stay away from shared products
【答案】66.C 67.D 68.A
文中提到“Sometimes, computers and chairs are also shared, which is not hygienic”办公桌、电脑、椅子的分享是很不卫生的。
根据短文第四段“Reusability (循环利用) is a common practice in the restaurant industry. Reusable cups and chopsticks are often used. Unfortunately, reusable products increase the chance of spreading disease.”
短文最后作者提到“Perhaps we need to rethink about our lifestyles to reduce the spread of future pandemics.”“也许我们需要重新思考我们的生活方式,以减少未来大流行病的传播”,A选项“我们需要改变一些生活方式”与作者的观点相同,故选A。

What do you think of being 80 years old? For Cai Gao, it is still the perfect age to explore new possibilities!
On April 13, Cai became the first Chinese picture book artist to receive the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest international children’s book award. The night she received the news, Cai’s thoughts were not on the prize or herself, but on the people and the land that shaped her.
Born in 1946 in Changsha, Cai was deeply influenced by the folk stories her grandmother shared with her. They became her earliest inspiration to draw. “She loved life, and made our daily life feel like a celebration,” Cai says. “Thanks to my grandmother. Art is not such a big deal for me because it is never far from life,” she says.
To many people’s surprise, Cai never had the opportunity to attend art school and didn’t start drawing picture books until her 30s. However, Cai considers her childhood experiences—playing in the yard, listening to her grandmother’s nursery rhymes, and watching theater plays—as the “best education”. “I’m lucky to have had all of that,” she says.
In her 20s, Cai first worked as a teacher in a village school. Although there are many challenges, she still found beauty in her life and never gave up her passion for art. At the age of 36, Cai finally became an art editor (编辑) for children’s books. Now, in her books, you can still sense the beauty, just like the world in the eyes of kids.
“I never aim too high. I just let everything happen step by step naturally,” Cai once said in a speech. There’s no need to rush. As long as you keep loving what you do, your dream will bloom in its own time—even at 80.
69.What first inspired Cai Gao to start drawing?
A.The theater plays she watched in her 20s.
B.The art books she read at school.
C.The folk stories told by her grandmother.
D.The children she taught in a village school.
70.What is the right order of the following events?
①Cai worked as an art editor for children’s books.
②Cai’s grandmother told folk stories and nursery rhymes to her.
③Cai received the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
④Cai became a teacher in a village school.
A. ④→②→③→① B.①→③→②→④
B. C.③→②→④→① D.②→④→①→③
71.What does the “best education” mean?
A.Going to a top art school is not important at all.
B.The life she lived as a child teaches her a lot about art.
C.She regrets not getting a better education when she was young.
D.Only children can truly understand what art really is.
72.Which words can best describe Cai Gao according to the passage?
A.Passionate and thankful. B.Proud and impatient.
C.Cold and careless. D.Talented but uninterested.

根据原文第三段“Born in 1946 in Changsha, Cai was deeply influenced by the folk stories her grandmother shared with her. They became her earliest inspiration to draw.”
71.根据原文第四段“However, Cai considers her childhood experiences—playing in the yard, listening to her grandmother’s nursery rhymes, and watching theater plays—as the ‘best education’.”

I’m taking a walk with Mr. Wang. I see some students over there on the playground. They run away quickly, leaving something behind them. We go over to the things. They are a backpack, a math exercise book and a soccer. I think the backpack must be Lisa’s, because I often see her wear it. And the math exercise book must be Lucy’s. Only she can write such special handwriting, because she writes with her left hand. As for the soccer, Mr. Wang thinks it might be Frank’s. He likes playing soccer. But it can’t be his. There is a “G” on the soccer ball. It must be George’s. He also likes playing soccer. And he likes copying others’ homework, too. Now, we get to know why they run away.

There is a “G” on the soccer ball. It must be George’s. He also likes playing soccer. And he likes copying others’ homework, too. Now, we get to know why they run away.
