Podcasting (播客) has grown rapidly in recent years, gaining popularity among people who wish to make good use of their time while walking, working, or relaxing. Among its listeners is Leo, a 26-year-old librarian who once found his daily commute (通勤) extremely dull. He frequently killed time by watching meaningless short videos, which left him feeling even more tired and empty afterward.
One day, a friend recommended a podcast featuring inspiring real-life stories. Leo was immediately drawn to it. Unlike short videos, podcasts require focused listening and enable listeners to picture scenes with their own imagination. This active mental participation felt refreshing to Leo. He soon formed a habit of listening for 30 minutes on each journey to and from his workplace, turning previously wasted hours into something meaningful.
He soon made it a daily rule. At first, Leo worried that he would lose interest soon, as he had never been able to concentrate on long audio (音频) shows before. However, the stories were so attractive that he gradually began to look forward to his daily listening time. He explored a wide range of topics, including history, personal experiences, and popular science.
As time went by, Leo became more focused at work and at home, and he gained fresh insights from what he listened to. Commuting no longer felt like a tiring burden; instead, he regarded it as a valuable chance for self-improvement. He even began taking brief notes to memorize useful knowledge, such as historical facts or practical life tips, which he later reviewed during breaks.
Leo also shared his favorite podcasts with colleagues and friends. They started exchanging ideas and holding discussions about what they had learned, making his daily life more enriched and satisfying.
“Podcasts transform wasted time into meaningful learning,” Leo commented. “It is incredible how much we can gain simply by listening with full attention.” For him, what once felt like dead hours have now become a journey of continuous learning and curiosity.

A.Listening to podcasts. B.Imagining inspiring things.
C.Watching short videos. D.Recommending real stories.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Trouble that Leo faced. B.Benefits that Leo received.
C.Efforts that Leo made. D.Pressure that Leo suffered.
31.What message does the author convey?
A.Break out of your shell. B.Change a habit, change your life.
C.Think twice before you act. D.Master time, master your future.

My name is Nasilele, and I am from Zambia. For the past two years, I have served as a UN peacekeeper in the Central African Republic (CAR). Before this, I was a pilot in my country’s army, a job I deeply enjoyed. Though Zambia is peaceful, I knew many African countries suffered from violent conflicts. I felt it my duty to help innocent people caught in the crossfire (交火), so I joined the United Nations.
The CAR, a small nation of five million, has faced instability since gaining independence from France in the 1950s. Conflicts between the government and rebel (造反的) groups, and even between the army and political leaders, have plagued (困扰) the country. In 2012, a civil war broke out, fueled mainly by clashes between different religions and ethnic groups. Over one million people fled their homes, and many lost their lives. In response, the UN set up a peacekeeping mission there in 2014. Our tasks include protecting civilians, helping the government restore stability, and supporting locals in rebuilding their lives.
Working here is far from easy. Based in the capital Bangui, we often travel to remote villages. Roads are in terrible condition, making trips long and difficult. The climate is hot and humid, and diseases are common. We also stay alert, as armed groups still exist in some areas.
Still, I believe my work matters. I have seen how our presence reduced violence in some regions. We have built schools and hospitals, and provided food and medicine to those in need. Though I miss my family in Zambia, I know I am doing something meaningful. I hope the CAR’s people will one day live in lasting peace, and I will be proud to have been part of that journey.
32.Why did Nasilele become a UN peacekeeper?
A.To work for a higher salary. B.To escape his army pilot job.
C.To help conflict-affected people. D.To explore different African life.
33.Which can best replace the underlined word “clashes” in paragraph 2?
A.Cooperations. B.Conflicts. C.Negotiations. D.Compromises.
34.How does Nasilele find working in the CAR?
A.Tough and dangerous. B.Bitter and annoying. C.Easy and convenient. D.Pleasant and colorful.
35.What does Nasilele’s experience show?
A.To give is better than to receive. B.Actions speak louder than words.
C.What goes around comes around. D.Where there is a will, there is a way.

Once outside, call emergency services immediately. 40 .
If you adopt these practices, you will be empowered to convert knowledge into a reliable defense.

It was the New Year’s Eve. John was driving to his grandparents’ home in Missouri when the snow started falling, thick and fast. Soon the unexpected snowstorm coated central Missouri in inches of snow. Suddenly his car slid off an icy road and into a ditch (沟渠).
John tried to stay calm, taking deep long breaths. He was safe, unharmed. But his car was another story – it had died. What’s worse, his mobile phone was out of power. He figured it would be dangerous to stay in the car as the snow continued to settle. John glanced around, and found that on the opposite side of the road there was a light up on a hill.
John started up the hill, hoping the light indicated the owner of the home was inside. John got closer and knocked on the door, but no one answered. John turned the door knob. It opened. The door was unlocked. John entered the house, calling out “hello,” only to be greeted with silence. There was clearly no one home.
He realized the roads were unsafe, so he made up his mind: He was going to stay in the farmhouse for the night. He felt slightly guilty about this decision — he was breaking and entering, but he meant no harm. He wrote a note explaining who he was and why he was there, just in case he fell asleep on the sofa before the owners returned. He fished out some cash and placed it next to the note on the kitchen table, as a thank you.
He had just finished writing the note when he heard someone’s voices. Then the door opened, and in came a couple. For a moment, they were all in shock.

Many inventors have left their marks on history in their own ways. Although there are inventors who you might not know, that doesn’t mean their contributions to science are less significant. Keep reading to learn about some famous inventors.
John Deere
John Deere is best known for being an inventor in the agricultural space. When the blacksmith noticed he was often making the same repairs to wood and cast-iron plows used by farmers, he began experimenting with more durable plow designs, which he then sold to local farmers. As the now-famous story goes, Jobs and Wozniak started Apple Computers in Jobs’ family’s garage in 1976, and the work they did there made computers more accessible and more affordable for consumers. Jobs left Apple in 1985, but he returned in 1997 and revitalized the company, leading to the creation of products like the iPod and iPhone.
Joy Mangano
If you’ve ever used a Miracle Mop, you have Joy Mangano to thank. The 67-year-old created the innovative cleaning tool in 1990, which she marketed and sold herself. A couple of years after inventing the device, she appeared on QVC to sell it, where more than 18,000 mops were sold within a half hour.
28.What can we infer about Leo from the first paragraph?
A.He felt dissatisfied with his job. B.He was extremely tired of his lifestyle.
C.He disliked communicating with others. D.He failed to manage his commute time wisely.
29.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Listening to podcasts. B.Imagining inspiring things.
C.Watching short videos. D.Recommending real stories.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Trouble that Leo faced. B.Benefits that Leo received.
C.Efforts that Leo made. D.Pressure that Leo suffered.
31.What message does the author convey?
A.Break out of your shell. B.Change a habit, change your life.
C.Think twice before you act. D.Master time, master your future.
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.B
根据第一段中“He frequently killed time by watching meaningless short videos, which left him feeling even more tired and empty afterward.(他经常通过看无意义的短视频来消磨时间,这让他之后感到更加疲惫和空虚)”可知,Leo没有明智地利用通勤时间。
根据第二段中“Unlike short videos, podcasts require focused listening and enable listeners to picture scenes with their own imagination. This active mental participation felt refreshing to Leo. He soon formed a habit of listening for 30 minutes on each journey to and from his workplace, turning previously wasted hours into something meaningful.(与短视频不同,播客需要专注聆听,并能让听众用自己的想象力描绘场景。这种积极的思维参与让Leo感到耳目一新。他很快养成了每天上下班途中听30分钟的习惯,把以前浪费的时间变成了有意义的事情)”可知,Leo养成了每天上下班途中听播客30分钟的习惯,所以it指代的是听播客这件事。
30.主旨大意题。根据第四段中“As time went by, Leo became more focused at work and at home, and he gained fresh insights from what he listened to. Commuting no longer felt like a tiring burden; instead, he regarded it as a valuable chance for self-improvement. He even began taking brief notes to memorize useful knowledge, such as historical facts or practical life tips, which he later reviewed during breaks.(随着时间的推移,Leo在工作和家中变得更加专注,并从所听的内容中获得了新的见解。通勤不再是令人疲惫的负担,反而被他视为自我提升的宝贵机会。他甚至开始做简短的笔记来记住有用的知识,比如历史事实或实用的生活技巧,并在休息时回顾这些内容)”可知,本段主要讲述Leo从听播客中获得的好处。
31.主旨大意题。根据最后一段中““Podcasts transform wasted time into meaningful learning,” Leo commented. “It is incredible how much we can gain simply by listening with full attention.” For him, what once felt like dead hours have now become a journey of continuous learning and curiosity.(“播客将浪费的时间转化为有意义的学习,”Leo评论道。“仅仅通过专注聆听,我们就能获得如此多的东西,这真是不可思议。”对他来说,曾经感觉像是死去的时光,如今已变成了一段持续学习和探索的旅程)”可知,作者传达的信息是改变一个习惯就能改变你的生活。

【答案】32.C 33.B 34.A 35.A
根据第一段“Though Zambia is peaceful, I knew many African countries suffered from violent conflicts. I felt it my duty to help innocent people caught in the crossfire (交火), so I joined the United Nations. (虽然赞比亚很和平,但我知晓诸多非洲国家饱受战乱之苦,帮助身陷战火的无辜民众是我的责任,因此我加入联合国)”可知,他做维和人员是为帮助受战乱影响的民众。
33.词句猜测题。根据第二段“The CAR, a small nation of five million, has faced instability since gaining independence from France in the 1950s. Conflicts between the government and rebel (造反的) groups, and even between the army and political leaders, have plagued (困扰) the country. In 2012, a civil war broke out, fueled mainly by clashes between different religions and ethnic groups. (中非共和国是一个拥有500万人口的小国,自20世纪50年代从法国独立以来一直面临不稳定。政府和反叛组织之间的冲突,甚至军队和政治领导人之间的冲突一直困扰着这个国家。2012年内战爆发,不同宗教与族群之间的clashes成为战争主要诱因)”可知,clashes指的是“冲突”,与Conflicts意义相近。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段“Working here is far from easy. Based in the capital Bangui, we often travel to remote villages. Roads are in terrible condition, making trips long and difficult. The climate is hot and humid, and diseases are common. We also stay alert, as armed groups still exist in some areas. (在这里工作远非易事。我们常驻首都班吉,经常前往偏远村庄。道路状况很糟糕,使旅行变得漫长而困难。气候炎热潮湿,疾病很常见。我们也保持警惕,因为一些地区仍然存在武装团体)”可知,Nasilele认为在中非共和国工作既艰苦又危险。
35.推理判断题。根据第四段“Still, I believe my work matters. I have seen how our presence reduced violence in some regions. We have built schools and hospitals, and provided food and medicine to those in need. (但我坚信工作很有价值,我们的到来减少部分地区暴力,修建校舍医院,为困难民众送去物资)”可知,Nasilele无私奉献,用行动帮助他人,体现了“给予比索取更好”的道理。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Fire is a destructive force that can reduce years of memories to ashes in minutes. For high school students, understanding fire safety is not just a school requirement — but a critical life skill. 36 The key lies not in panic, but in prevention, preparation and a clear plan.
37 Most fires can be avoided by maintaining fire safety consciousness in daily life. Watch out for common dangers like overloaded power strips (排插), unattended cooking, and careless use of candles. 38 These simple devices cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half. Knowing how to use a fire extinguisher can stop a small fire from becoming a big disaster.
However, when prevention fails, a well-rehearsed escape plan becomes your lifeline. Identify two ways out of every room, usually a door and a window. 39 Agree on a specific outdoor meeting place, such as a tree or a lamppost, so that you can quickly account for everyone.
During a fire, seconds count. If the alarm sounds, get out and stay out. Before opening a door, feel it with the back of your hand. If it’s warm, use your second way out. Crawl low under the smoke where the air is cleaner and cooler. Breathing in poisonous smoke, not flames, is the leading cause of fire-related deaths. Once outside, call emergency services immediately. 40 .
If you adopt these practices, you will be empowered to convert knowledge into a reliable defense.
A.Never go back inside for any possession.
B.Prevention is always the first line of defense.
C.However, all elevators in high-rise buildings shouldn’t be operated.

John gathered up his courage to speak. “I’m John — so sorry for breaking in uninvited!” he stammered, gesturing to the note and cash on the table. “My car slid into the ditch in the snowstorm, phone died, and I had nowhere else to go.” The couple’s shock melted into smiles as they read the note. “Don’t worry about it – you did the right thing to stay safe,” the husband said warmly. John felt relieved and grateful for their kindness. Before long, the couple offered a hearty dinner, insisting John was absolutely welcome to stay overnight.
The next morning, the couple accompanied John to his car. They attached ropes to the car and pulled together. With their joint effort, they slowly pulled the car out of the mud and ice. To John’s relief, the car started successfully after the rescue. John insisted on doubling the cash as a thank-you, but the couple refused and said “Just pass on the kindness someday.” John carried the memory of their generosity with him as he joined his grandparents for New Year lunch, grateful for coming across such understanding people.
