Have you seen white, hairy tofu on your phone? That’s Mao tofu, a traditional food from Anhui. It is made by fermenting (发酵) tofu until it grows white mold (霉) on the outside. Many people find it scary at first. But here’s the funny part — it actually tastes creamy, like aged cheese.
The fun started when Mao tofu sellers began posting short videos. In these videos, a customer walks up and touches the hairy tofu with their hands. The seller’s eyes go wide. “Don’t touch it if you won’t buy it!” she shouts. “How can I sell it now?” The customer, feeling embarrassed, has no choice. “Fine, I’ll buy it.” Then the seller’s face lights up. “Great! Do you want mild, medium, hot, or super hot?”
It’s this sudden change — from angry to happy in one second — that makes people laugh. These videos became a hit across the internet. Soon, everyone wanted to join the fun.
People started making their own versions (版本) . They used snow, soft blankets, or marshmallows to take the place of Mao tofu. They played both roles — the toucher and the seller. The funniest part? They still asked, “Mild, medium, hot, or super hot?” even when “touching” a pile of snow!
Why did this become so popular? First, the sound of cutting Mao tofu feels strangely relaxing. Second, anyone can do it— no special skills needed. But most importantly, it made people feel connected. When you see someone else making the same silly video, you smile and think, “Hey, I did that too!”
Now, young people who never cared about Mao tofu are curious. Some even travel to Anhui just to try it. A funny video turned a strange-looking food into a star.
39. According to Paragraph 1, which of the following is TRUE about Mao tofu?
A. It is a kind of cheese made in Anhui. B. It looks scary but tastes good.
C. The white things on the outside are like cream. D. It tastes the same as common tofu.
40. What does the writer mean by saying “These videos became a hit across the internet” in Paragraph 3?

41. According to the passage, what can we infer about the people who made their own videos?
A. They wanted to learn how to make real Mao tofu.
B. They enjoyed playing different roles and joining the fun.
C. They thought the first videos were not funny enough.
D. They hoped to become famous by making better videos.

On a busy street in Guangzhou, there is a green fridge. It is not for sale. It is a “shared fridge”. Anyone can put food in or take food out for free.
The idea came from Li Na, a restaurant owner. “I saw leftover food thrown away every day,” Li said. “But some people nearby didn’t have enough to eat. I wanted to help.”
She put the fridge outside her restaurant. Soon, others joined in. Bakers brought bread. Farmers brought vegetables. Families brought more fruit. People in need took what they wanted. Some took an apple. Others took a bottle of milk. Everything was free. “At first, I worried someone might take too much,” Li said. “But that never happened. People are kind. They think about others.”
One day, a little boy put his favorite chocolate in the fridge. He left some words: “For someone who needs a smile.” Another time, an old woman brought homemade dumplings. “I have enough,” she said. “Let others enjoy.”
The shared fridge has been there for two years. It has no lock. No one watches it. But food never stays long. It always finds a home.

Do you know about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)? It’s an old way to keep people healthy in China, with a history of thousands of years. TCM doctors often check your tongue (舌头), give you herbs (草药), or use acupoints (穴位) to treat illnesses.
Now, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is helping TCM work better. AI is smart—it can learn and think like humans, and we can see it in computers and robots. Let’s see how AI helps with TCM herbs first. TCM doctors give people bags of different herbs. People need to boil the herbs in water to make a drink, but it’s hard to get the right temperature and time. A small mistake makes the medicine less useful.
But AI machines can solve this problem. They read doctors’ prescriptions and boil herbs in their own ways. They control the temperature perfectly, so the medicine is always good. This saves people a lot of time.
AI robots also help with moxibustion (艾灸), a special TCM treatment. Doctors use warmth from burning herbs near your skin to reach acupoints. Finding the right acupoints is very important. AI robots have smart eyes—they can find acupoints quickly. The robot’s arm is steady (稳定的) and never shakes, making the treatment safe.
AI is not here to replace TCM doctors. Doctors are still the most important. AI is just a “super assistant” that helps doctors work faster and better, making TCM treatments more efficient for everyone.
49. What is TCM according to the passage?
A. A new way to make robots smart. B. An old Chinese way to stay healthy.
C. A kind of AI machine for treatment. D. A robot to keep us fit.
50. Why is making a TCM herb drink difficult for people?
A. Because it takes all day to boil the herbs.
B. Because people can’t find enough different herbs.
C. Because it’s difficult to get the right temperature and time.
D. Because it saves people a lot of time.
51. What does the underlined word “prescriptions” mean?
A. Instructions. B. Tools. C. Records. D. Results.
52. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. AI machines can boil herbs very quickly. B. AI helps TCM work more efficiently and safely.
C. TCM is an old and useful way to keep healthy. D. AI machines can replace TCM doctors.

Long ago, there was a man who loved money very much. He got some gold through working hard and hid it in a secret place in his garden. Every day, he went there, dug up the box, and counted the gold again and again.
He did this so often that a thief noticed him. The thief watched for some days, found the hiding place, and one night took all the gold away.
When the man went to the garden the next day, he found the hole empty. He began to cry loudly. He sat on the ground, pulled his hair, and shouted in pain. A passerby heard him and asked what was wrong.
“My gold! Someone has taken all my gold!” the man cried.
The passerby asked in surprise, “Why didn’t you keep it in your house and use it to buy things you needed?”
“Buy things?” the man shouted. “I never spent even one piece of the gold. I only looked at it!”

How I love myself
Oscar Wilde once said, “To love yourself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.” I think he’s right. We should love ourselves, because it’s the first step for us to learn how to love others. Here is what I do to love myself.
Firstly, I try to keep healthy. For example, I get enough sleep and keep a balanced diet. Secondly, I read. Reading is a good way to learn about the world. The more I read, the better I feel. Thirdly, I make friends. They help me out and make me feel less lonely whenever I’m in trouble.
Loving myself gives me energy, both physically and mentally. I love myself and I hope you do too.
