Love you, laoji is a catchphrase now. Literally, “laoji” means “the old self”. Although calling ourselves this way is a bit funny, it makes us feel warm at heart. It is like talking to a good old friend—relaxed and caring.
To ring in the New Year, here are some tips for you to love laoji more in the coming year.
Don’t Chase Perfection. Waiting to be perfect often means never starting. Many people put things off because they’re afraid of making mistakes. But doing something imperfect is better than doing nothing at all. Start small. Learn as you go. The first step matters most.
Take Real Rest. Real rest isn’t sleeping all day or staying up late on your phone. That only makes you more tired. Try active rest—gentle activities that help your body and mind recover. Feel the sunshine, go for a walk, stretch a little, or listen to music you like. Choose one or two small things each day to recharge (充电).
Talk to Yourself Kindly. Pay attention to how you talk to yourself. When things go wrong, don’t be too hard on laoji. Try saying, “It’s okay,” or “I’ll try again next time.” Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend.
Comments:
·Alissa: Me reading this at 1 a.m. while still scrolling... okay fine, I’ll go to bed. Love you, laoji.
·Bryan: Talking to yourself in the third person really helps. In psychology (心理学), it’s called self-distancing. It means stepping back a little and not getting stuck in your feelings. It’s useful, especially during stressful times.
·Lora: Didn’t expect a phrase like this to hit so hard. Gonna try being nicer to laoji this year.

A. It’s OK to avoid stressful situations.
B. The third-person talk helps manage feelings.
C. Psychology terms are not hard to understand.

( ) 29. Which of the following actions are recommended (推荐) for students like you?

26.B【26题详解】第三段指出:“Many people put things off because they’re afraid of making mistakes.”。根据因果逻辑,害怕犯错会导致人们拖延或推迟做事,因此“put things off”意为“推迟、拖延”,与“leave things until later”同义。

Kunqu (昆曲) was added to UNESCO’s World Intangible Cultural Heritage (联合国教科文组织的世界非物质文化遗产) list in 2001. The Peony Pavilion (《牡丹亭》), one of its most famous works, was written in 1598 by Tang Xianzu. It tells the story of Du Liniang, a young woman from a rich family. She dies for love after dreaming of a romantic meeting with the scholar Liu Mengmei, and later comes back to life when he finds her.
A youth version (青年版) of The Peony Pavilion was first shown in Taipei 22 years ago. This is a great work of Kunqu Opera. On January 15, 2026, a special “campus (校园) youth” version was performed for the first time in Taiwan, China.
This campus version is a shortened performance of the nine-hour youth show. It came from a project started in 2024 to ask young people to join in protecting Kunqu.
The project selected 50 students from 29 universities with little professional Kunqu training. They practiced for nearly nine months and performed the campus version in Suzhou, Kunqu’s birthplace, in April 2025.
Young people have always been the main listeners of the youth version. Since its first show, the youth version has been performed at over ten universities. “Our goal is to help college students enjoy the beauty of Kunqu, so they can feel closer to traditional Chinese culture,” said 88-year-old Pai Hsien-yung, the art director of the project. In fact, this campus version brings fresh energy to the classic The Peony Pavilion, allowing the ancient art of Kunqu to reach young people and gain new life.

( ) 33. What is special about the campus youth version?

B. It was performed by professional actors.
C. It was first shown in Suzhou.
D. It is mainly enjoyed by common people.
( ) 34. Why did Pai Hsien-yung start the 2024 project?
A. To let students perform a shorter campus show.

四、任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
When we shop at a supermarket, we often buy more than we need. This may not be our fault—supermarkets control the way we shop. Every detail is planned. The walkways, music, lights, and advertisements all encourage us to spend more money.
From the moment we enter, the design of a supermarket controls the way we experience the store. Usually, there is one entrance and one exit (出口). Fruits, vegetables, and bread are near the entrance. Fresh vegetables and the smell of bread make the store appear fresh and attractive. This makes us feel good and want to buy more.
In addition, we often walk through the whole store to find what we need. Milk and eggs are usually at the back. Popular products are in the middle. Expensive ones are at eye level for easy reach, while cheaper goods are on lower shelves, requiring us to bend down. The payment area is usually at the exit. In this way, we see more food and spend more.
Supermarkets use other means to influence shopping, too. Slow music makes people shop more slowly and spend more. In a study, shoppers spent 38% more when slow music was played instead of fast music. Most stores also have no clocks or windows, so we lose track of time and stay longer.
So how can we avoid buying too much? First, make a shopping list and only buy what is on it. Second, shop less often—plan meals for several days and shop once or twice a week. Lastly, do not shop when you are hungry, because everything looks delicious then.

Hello everyone,
I am honored to give a speech. Today I want to share my ideas about time management.
First, I always make a daily to-do list. It helps me see what I need to do. Then I arrange a timetable and try to follow it strictly. I also learn to do the most important thing first. In this way, I can use my time wisely.
What if I am too slow? I try to improve my efficiency by focusing on one task at a time. Also, I develop good learning habits, like reviewing lessons in time. These small changes make a big difference.
