B Have you ever had something good happen to you and felt like shouting it from the rooftops? Sharing positive events with others and receiving an enthusiastic response in return has been tied to many good outcomes, including closer relationships and greater happiness. Now, a new study suggests another benefit of sharing the good stuff: more feelings of gratitude. The researchers started by asking 300 participants how often they tended to share good news, and how other people in their lives generally responded to their good news. Then, six times a day for 10 days, the researchers asked participants to report on how grateful they were in the moment, how recently they’d had a social encounter, whether they’d shared good news with that person, and how close they felt to the person as a result. Afterward, the researchers analyzed the results to look for patterns. They found those who shared positive events with others felt more grateful in the moment and closer to the person with whom they shared the news. In addition, people with a tendency to share good news and receive enthusiastic responses were the most grateful in the group, overall. Sharing good news calls attention to the good things happening in your life, says Alexandra Gray, study coauthor of Northeastern University. For example, you might tell a friend what a great time you had over the holidays, and in recounting what happened, you can reexperience the positive feelings and become even more appreciative. Getting an enthusiastic response to your good news is also important, says Gray, because it makes you feel recognized, and cared for in a way that strengthens your relationship, and also leads to gratitude. Though there’s still more research to be done, Gray suggests people not hold back on sharing their good news with others, or on showing enthusiasm when others share good news with them. We all have a role to play in helping positivity spread. 4. How did the researchers conduct the study? A. By analyzing participants’ daily reports. B. By observing participants’ social encounters. C. By studying participants’ attitudes to sharing. D. By tracking participants’ interactive behavior. 5. What does the underlined word “recounting” probably mean in paragraph 4? A. Repeating. B. Analyzing. C. Inquiring. D. Recalling. 6. What can we infer about positive responses to shared good news? A. They boost the sharer’s self-awareness. B. They serve to confirm the listener’s opinions. C. They are more influential if given by friends. D. They make people more connected with others. 7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To discuss the key to strong friendships. B. To encourage people to share good news. C. To compare ways people react to good news. D. To analyze how gratitude improves happiness. C Researchers are working on making transparent (透明的) wood using natural materials that are good for the environment. This new material could replace plastic in things like smartphones and windows. The problem with plastic is that it is not biodegradable, which means it doesn’t disappear in nature. Transparent wood is made by removing some parts of wood, like lignin (a substance that makes wood hard) and hemicellulose (a type of sugar that helps hold the structure of wood together), leaving only cellulose (the main substance in wood). After that, the wood is soaked in a mixture of egg whites and rice juice to make it strong and semi-transparent. Bharat Baruah, a chemistry professor at Kennesaw State University, was inspired by his hobby of woodworking. He also thought about how buildings were made in his home state of Assam in northeastern India, where builders used a mix of sand, sticky rice, and egg whites to make strong materials. Baruah thought these materials could be used to make transparent wood strong without using harmful plastic. To make transparent wood, the team used a vacuum (真空) and some chemicals like sodium sulfite, sodium hydroxide, and diluted bleach. These chemicals were used to remove the lignin and hemicellulose. Then, they soaked the wood in the egg white and rice mixture, which filled the holes in the wood and kept it transparent. The result was a wood that is flexible, strong, and semi-transparent. The team also tested the transparent wood in windows. They found that the wood kept a small house cooler than glass windows did. This shows that transparent wood could be a good, energy-saving choice for windows. The researchers also added tiny wires to make the wood able to conduct electricity, which could be useful for things like wearable sensors or solar cells. Although the transparent wood is not completely clear yet, the team is happy with their progress. The materials are natural and cheap, and they hope to make the wood fully biodegradable in the future while still keeping it strong and useful. 8. What makes transparent wood a more eco-friendly option than plastic? A. Its ability to break down naturally. B. Its ability to use wind energy. C. Its strength and long-lasting nature. D. Its lightness and low energy use. 9. What inspired Bharat Baruah to explore transparent wood? A. Interest in plastic alternatives. B. Desire to use metal in construction. C. Research on eco-friendly materials. D. Woodworking and Assam’s building methods. 10. How did the transparent wood perform in windows? A. It broke easily under pressure. B. It was completely clear like glass. C. It was less energy-efficient than glass. D. It helped maintain a cooler indoor temperature. 11. What do researchers aim to achieve with transparent wood? A. To make it more flexible than plastic. B. To make it a good material for furniture. C. To ensure it remains strong and eco-friendly. D. To make it resistant to water and fire damage. D Human responses to moral dilemmas can be influenced by statements written by the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, according to a study published in Scientific Reports. The findings indicate that users may underestimate the extent to which their own moral judgements can be influenced by the chatbot. Sebastian Krigel and colleagues asked ChatGPT multiple times whether it is right to sacrifice the life of one person in order to save the lives of five others. They found that ChatGPT wrote random statements arguing both for and against sacrificing one life, indicating that it is not biased towards a certain moral stance (立场). The authors then presented 767 US participants, who were on average 39 years old, with a dilemma whether to sacrifice one person’s life to save five others. Before answering, participants read a statement provided by ChatGPT arguing either for or against sacrificing one life to save five. Statements were from either a moral advisor or ChatGPT. After answering, participants were asked whether the statement they read influenced their answers. Eighty percent of participants reported that their answers were not influenced by the statements they read. However, the authors found that the answers participants believed they would have provided without reading the statements were still more likely to agree with the moral stance of the statement they did read than with the opposite stance. This indicates that participants may have underestimated the influence of ChatGPT’s statements on their own moral judgements. The authors suggest that the potential for chatbots to influence human moral judgements highlights the need for education to help humans better understand artificial intelligence. They propose that future research should design chatbots that either decline to answer questions requiring a moral judgement or answer these questions by providing multiple arguments and warnings. 12. What are ChatGPT’s answers to a certain moral stance like according to Paragraph 2? A. Inconsistent. B. Invaluable. C. Creative. D. Identical. 13. What is learned about the participants? A. They admitted the power of ChatGPT. B. They were interviewed by a moral advisor. C. They were affected by ChatGPT unknowingly. D. They were presented with different moral dilemmas. 14. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. Different findings of the study. B. Future potentials for chatbots. C. Major focuses of future education. D. Solutions to the impact of chatbots. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. ChatGPT tends to cause moral panics B. ChatGPT is unlikely to affect our life C. ChatGPT is making us so upset D. ChatGPT can influence human moral judgements 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分 12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In today’s hyper-connected world, most of us are flooded by an ocean of messages and social media feeds, from the moment we wake up to the instant we close our eyes. It’s not just a matter of convenience or novelty anymore — a fixation on screens has become our habit, a necessity, and even an addiction. ____16____ Constant engagement not only consumes our time, but also steals from us something far more important: peace of mind. Silence is as critical to mental health as vitamins are to physical well-being. People are particular about what foods they put in their bodies: whether organic, vegetarian, or fat-free. ____17____ The mental junk we absorb daily can be arguably more harmful than the occasional cheeseburger or donut. The never-ending flood of sensory input taxes the brain’s limited attention resources, leaving little room for deep thinking, reflecting, or creativity. ____18____ Quiet time helps the brain relax, sort through what it has taken in, and regain lost mental energy. As American artist Leonard Koren suggests in his book Wabi-Sabi, quiet can be “an emptiness full of possibilities”, a space where creativity and clarity emerge. Adding moments of quiet to your daily routine doesn’t require dramatic changes or a very long time. ____19____ Better yet, research shows that brief exposure to nature, like a walk in the woods, lowers stress levels, reduces blood pressure, and sharpens focus. These benefits occur because green spaces and natural soundscapes provide a much-needed break from today’s busy, stressful world. Digital life crowds out silence, making simply sitting in silence almost unthinkable — yet the very moments of stillness are what our minds really need. They let us listen to our thoughts, reflect on our experiences, and connect with ourselves in a way that is impossible in the noise of modern life. ____20____ A. But rarely do we ask ourselves: at what cost? B. So, shouldn’t we make laws requiring quiet time every day? C. It can be as simple as pausing 30 seconds to watch clouds. D. Therefore, next time you reach for your phone, resist the urge and sit in silence. E. We check our phone 58 times a day, 30% occurring during work hours. F. However, they aren’t as picky about what they are exposed to through the senses. G. Just as our bodies need nutrition, our minds require quiet time to function well. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) During a chilly winter week with temperatures staying below freezing, our heating system broke down. However, the aquarium had to go through a major restoration, and as of (自……起) December 1st last year, it closed its doors to the public. The construction was expected to last until the summer, with the entire project taking more than six months to complete. Without visitors, the aquarium grew extremely quiet and felt like an empty space. The animals, who were used to human interaction every day, now saw very few human faces, only the familiar caretakers. Something strange began to happen. The dolphins, once energetic and lively, seemed tired, lacking the usual enthusiasm they had for play, One morning, after the caretaker Amanda threw small fish into the dolphins’ tank, the dolphins swam lazily to the tank walls and barely showed any interest in their favourite meals. They stared blankly into the distance, their usual excitement absent. “Something’s not right,” Amanda whispered to herself. Dr Harris was called in to investigate. He examined the dolphins and initially suspected digestive issues. “Perhaps we should reduce their food intake,” he suggested. “Give them smaller amounts of food and see if that helps with any potential digestive discomfort.” But after a few days, there was no improvement. The dolphins continued to suffer, showing no interest in food or play. Disappointed and worried, John, a senior caretaker, gathered the team. “What should we do?” he asked. his voice filled with concern. Then, one of the caretakers posed an idea: “Could it be that the dolphins are lonely without the visitors?” 注意:续写词数应为150个左右。 Paragraph 1: While everyone was doubtful, they decided to try something, starting with printing some pictures of human faces. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: As the dolphins started to recover, the staff became more creative in their efforts. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 机密★启用前 2026届高三第五次模拟考试 英语试题 考试时间:120分钟 满分150分 注意事项:英语听力共两节,20小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分。 1. 【答案】4. A 5. D 6. D 7. 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. D 11. 【答案】16. E 17. F 18. G 19. C 20. Firstly, language is not just a tool for communication; it is a window into different cultures and ways of thinking. Understanding a foreign language allows us to appreciate the tiny differences and subtleties of other societies, promoting cultural empathy and global understanding. Secondly, while AI can translate languages, it cannot fully grasp the context and emotions behind human communication. Human interaction requires a level of sensitivity and adaptability that AT cannot yet replicate. Finally, foreign language skills enhance human-to-human interaction. Therefore, learning foreign languages continues to be a valuable skill in our increasingly interconnected world. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: While everyone was doubtful, they decided to try something, starting with printing some pictures of human faces. They stuck these photos on the outer glass of the dolphin tank, hoping to create a lively atmosphere for the lonely dolphins. To the staff’s surprise, the dolphins gradually became active. They swam curiously towards the photos, touching the glass gently and chasing around the tank again. Days later, they regained their appetite and finished every meal happily. It turned out that lack of human company was exactly what made them depressed. Paragraph 2: As the dolphins started to recover, the staff became more creative in their efforts. They recorded cheering sounds and uploaded daily interaction videos to play in the aquarium. Some staff even took turns standing by the tank, talking and playing with the dolphins patiently. Gradually, the dolphins totally recovered their liveliness and enthusiasm. This meaningful experience taught the team a precious lesson: intelligent animals like dolphins need not only food and shelter but also companionship and spiritual care to live happily. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 粘贴:stick/attach ②轮流:take turns/rotate 情绪类 ① 孤独的:lonely/isolated ②快乐地:happily/joyfully 【点睛】[高分句型1] They swam curiously towards the photos, touching the glass gently and chasing around the tank again.(运用了现在分词作伴随状语) [高分句型2] This meaningful experience taught the team a precious lesson: intelligent animals like dolphins need not only food and shelter but also companionship and spiritual care to live happily.(运用了not only...but also...连接并列结构) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
